Once your group size goes above 20 people, then this large holiday house becomes the ideal property to cater for your event.

With the looks of a French chateau, this large classically elegant south facing country house, built in the 1800’s, on the site of a medieval castle, is situated in its own grounds of 1,500 acres surrounded by mixed woodlands and paddocks. A charming family home, on offer is a dining hall, an elegant drawing room, sitting room, secondary sitting room, TV room and country style kitchen. Additionally, there is an informal games room with snooker table and a “party room”, which is ideal for hosting small events. On the two floors above are a selection of bedrooms, shower rooms and bathrooms to sleep up to 23 adults and 2 children. There is parking for 12 cars or more. Reception rooms

Leading on from the reception hall is the large formal drawing room, with grand piano and open fire. It feels like walking into a family home when you enter this room. To the other side is the sitting room, which has a TV and is ideal for children or splitting the group. At the far end of the building is the “morning room”, a secondary sitting room. There is a smaller room, the TV room, which can be used specifically for children if required. A large old school style snooker room, with full size table, can be found in the basement. And there is an amazing room on the first floor, which is a conference room, ballroom or ceilidh room, whatever your requirements are for this room. With plenty of floor space, this could be just the space you were looking for to hold an event

Kitchen / Dining

On entering, there is a spacious reception hall, with fine feature staircase with triple arch, and this reception space is used as the dining hall for the house due to its size. With the dining table set, up to 24 people can be seated around the one table and there is quite a buzz in this room once the dinner party is under way. The kitchen is nearby and it is a large room with a traditional AGA and an electric range by the work-island. There is ample work space and storage units to cater for this group size, with further storage space within the larder to the rear. There is also a useful utility room.

The small but picturesque town of Forres, in Moray, is a tranquil location to enjoy Scottish Highland life. With the River Fondhorn nearby, and the Burn of Mosset running through the town, there is plenty of beautiful walking available. The nearby 16th Century Brodie Castle is a treasure trove of antiquities and architecture, and has an impressive adventure playground for the kids! The town has two distilleries; Benromach is a working site with a visitor centre, and although Dallas Dhu no longer distills, Historic Scotland has preserved the site in perfect working order, for visitors to explore. Forres has a 18 hole golf course set in beautiful parkland, and is home to Sueno’s Stone, a 20 foot pictish carved monument encased behind glass, commemorating the historic Norse war. Legend has it this is also where Shakespeare’s Macbeth met the witches!

Located in the Highlands on the north coast of Scotland, Moray is one of the smaller of Scotland’s counties. There are some mountainous features including Bin Hill, but its main draw is the magnificent coastline, along the Moray Firth. Dolphin watching is most popular, with boat trips available to spot the many sea creatures that frequent the area. Seals, porpoises and the occasional whale have been seen in the Firth. The area of Culbin Sands, Culbin Forest and Findhorm Bay is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the Sands are an RSPB Reserve. The county is in the heart of Whisky country, with a vast number of distilleries in the area, including the historic Dallas Dhu, pristinely preserved and open to the public. For real enthusiasts, the Whisky Trail takes in many of the local distilleries in this area and is worth investigating! Towns and villages in the county include the fishing town of Lossiemouth on the north coast; Elgin, the historic city, home to the dramatic Elgin Cathedral ruins; and Forres, home to Brodie Castle and the Falconer Museum. Other attractions in the area include Spynie Palace, the former residence of the Bishop of Moray, Knockando Wool mill at Aberlour.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.

Our second time at this property, it did not disappoint!

Product : Great to hear, hope we can tempt you to a 3rd visit !

1st June 2018 Bad

Burgie House is in a lovely location and exceptionally impressive, until you look past the size and grandeur of the building. Sadly the house is in need of substantial investment in the form of refurbishment. Most of the carpets on the staircases were threadbare. Everywhere the paint was chipped to excess so on first impressions it was very disappointing. The bedrooms were adequate but in today’s world they should be zillion so that you can have king sized doubles. The snooker room was downstairs via a staircase that was dangerous to say the least. All the use were tipped and there was no black ball. I took several photos of these points which I will forward to you if you wish. The furnishings in the lounges were adequate, but again in need of recovering. An expression that comes to mind over the whole house is Shabby Chic. On the plus side the kitchen was excellent as was the amount of glassware. The cost of our stay was very similar to where we stayed for the second half the week - Dalvey House, which as a comparison was like Buckingham Palace. I would strongly recommend that you review the two properties as Dalvey was excellent value and Burgie exceptionally poor value. I could not recommend Burgie House to anyone until I knew it has had considerable amount of refurbishment, if fact I would strongly advice people not to go there at that price. More happy to talk to someone if you so wish

Service rating : Great to hear, thank you.

Product : Oh dear! Sounds as if you were expecting something a little less like a well-trodden 'family home' and something a bit more polished. It can be hard going from one style and standard of property to another. Dalvey has certainly had more investment spent on it recently and is, as you point out, a grade above the other, as depicted in the picture galleries. The price does reflect this difference, as Burgie works out at £132 per person per week, as opposed to £150 per person for Dalvey at the same time of year. I can see however one might get the impression Burgie cost more as it’s a much larger property, but when you break the total rent down per head - it is in fact cheaper. Yours is the first poor review we've had of Burgie in ten years.

Many people love the ease of mind a 'shabby chic' environment presents and prefer it to somewhere that might require a little more overall care, however, I do recognise it's horses for courses and not everyone’s cup of tea. I'm just so sorry you felt disappointed.

However, in light of your feedback, I will certainly look at our descriptions to see if there’s anything more we can add to avoid any future disappointment.

We'd love to welcome you back again, so please do ask about our Loyalty Discount next time you make an enquiry and we will also make sure we point you in the direction of our four star collection.

1st June 2017 Excellent

We rented Burgie House for the weekend to celebrate my Dad's 80th Birthday, we needed somewhere large enough to accomodate extended family and a bit special for the 'big day'.We were not disappointed!. It has the grandeur of a large country home but was also very homely. For those looking for 5* decor then this place is probably not for you as some parts could do with a little updating, but for us it just added to the charm of an old house. Our family group had a large variation in ages and there was something for everyone. Brilliant house for hide n' seek for the kids!!. And enough sitting rooms to suit all old and young alike. The gardens were beautiful during our stay ... a stroll through the bluebells are a must! The kitchen had everything we needed although the electric hob took a bit of getting used to!! and the dining room in the entrance hall perfect for sharing dinner and good chat. We had a memorable weekend and my Dad got to be lord of the Manor which he loved. Would recommend.

Service rating : Thanks so much for your comments, we were delighted to help with the birthday celebrations and we hope to be of assistance again in the future. Great that you found our new website easy to use!

Product : Thank you for your feedback, we're thrilled you weren't disappointed and rated the house excellent, finding it grand yet homely. We're glad that everyone enjoyed the charm of this more traditional mansion and having visited myself, I couldn't agree more - it's perfect for hide and seek given the scale of the building! Sounds like you had a very memorable trip overall and we hope to welcome you back again in the future ..

11th March 2015 Excellent

WoW, I could almost leave it there! We travelled for my hubbies 40th with a huge party of friends as a surprise for him. The house was indeed a surprise, so big and beautiful, we fell in love with it, and the amazing grounds that helped us walk off some very sore heads :) Regal and imposing and full of so many rooms inside we were still discovering them 3 days into our stay! The house is very comfortable, not stuffy and you felt you could totally relax and not worry about getting crumbs on the floor. Oozing with character and I don't mind telling you a little spooky at times all added to the adventure we shared there. Amazing family kitchen, larder and local supermarkets deliver. Polly from the house took our huge shopping in and set it out as we were on the train from london, nothing was too much trouble. If you are thinking of going then do, I want to go back again, but perhaps live there :) Thanks Burgie ***

Service rating : Thank you for your excellent feedback! We are pleased to of been able to help with your celebratory trip and hope to be of assistance again in the future!
Product : It certainly sounds like you all had a fabulous time and enjoyed your husbands birthday trip! We will certainly pass your comments onto the owners who will also be pleased to hear you enjoyed your time at this amazing property, great to hear you found it spacious and comfortable for all of the family. I am sure you all have some lovely memories to share now too from the sounds of it!

We look forward to hearing from you if you ever wish to return .. it sounds like it may already be on the cards :)

Two kissues to report:
(i) There was a boiler malfunction which resulted in no hot water for the showers in a few bedrooms
(ii) Surprisingly at this time of year there was a number of mice about - we had to get a trap for one in the kitchen

Thank you for your kind words regarding the service of Scotts Castle Holidays. I understand that the boiler went out during your stay and that it was re-lit once you informed the owners. Whilst this was unlucky - it was dealt with swiftly. As for the mouse, it is an occupational hazard with holiday houses that are not always occupied. The owners have been informed and they have stepped up their efforts again to keep out the little blighters. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to helping you in the future.

3rd April 2014 Great

Very old Aga loses heat quickly and is not ideal for a party of 15, the small electric ovens saved the day but they are small and the handle of the top oven has been broken for some time I suspect. The house was otherwise ideal for a business weekend.

Thank you for your kind words about us and I can let you know that a new and improved website is in development and will be on-line very shortly, which will hopefully be more attractive. With regards to cooking facilities at the house, they do adopt the belt and braces attitude, and have the AGA and the electric hobs available to all guests. I have forwarded your additional comments for an update at the property. Thank you again.
