Big houses for big occasions
Renting a large holiday home in Scotland, Wales or England couldn't be easier once
you know where to
look! These grand country houses and castles, originally the sole domain of the wealthy
landowners,
merchants and aristocracy have become popular venues for holding celebratory occasions like 50th
birthdays, wedding anniversaries, sporting lets and general family and group holidays
Are you looking to stay in a castle? Look no further. Scottish castle stays are our speciality. It’s how we got our name. Scotts Castle Holidays started way back in 1988 with the purpose of finding castles to stay in Scotland. All these years later we’ve built an extraordinary collection of some of the best castles in Scotland providing group accommodation from 6 to 36 guests.
Back in the old days, land gave status, security and a hand in county affairs, so money was lavished on these big
country
houses from which great estates were run. Proportionally rooms were built to be large enough for
entertaining big house parties and group today find these well appointed reception & dining
rooms perfect for hosting private weddings and family reunions.
Whilst large country houses tend to be located out of town on private estates throughout the UK,
or
perched above secluded beaches along stretches of the South West coastline, East Anglia,
Scotland
and Wales, rural locations lend themselves well to group holidays as they offer privacy, easy
access
to outdoor space and country pursuits. Whether that's enjoying the Jurassic coastline of Devon,
the
old world charm of the Cotswolds, the hills and dales in Yorkshire and the Peak District or
the
barrenness of the Scottish Highlands.
From the castles to sporting lodges, big farmhouses and cottages to luxury mansions the
advantages of
spending time in unique holiday properties like these in the UK cannot be underestimated. Often
cheaper on a price per head basis than booking hotels, quicker and easier than travelling abroad
for
the family reunions and more exclusive in general these large holiday homes range from supreme
luxury to the quintessentially English shabby chic. They're also often pet friendly and some
even
provide stables to cater for horses. Organising group accommodation on a grand scale nowadays
could
not be easier.
In England and Scotland substantial mansions were built on the edge of deer parks and forests to
cater for hunting parties. There are still a good number of these sporting lodges and steadings
available to rent for sporting lets, weddings, conferences and general family holidays. Visitors
from abroad with ties to Scotland will often choose to rent these types of properties for their
sheer size and historical interest. Who wouldn't enjoy spending a weekend as Laird or Lady of
the
Manor hosting a house party in a property similar to Outlanders, Lallybroch or Downton
Abbey.
