Description

Guests have been known to sit in this lovely house all day and just watch the magnificent view of Ailsa Craig, and the way it seems to change colour all the time.

This delightful country house enjoys great views across to the easily recognisable and distinctive Ailsa Craig and to the Atlantic Ocean beyond, with easy access to the nearby golden beaches and links golf courses of Ayrshire. This is a stylish large holiday home, only a short drive from Glasgow, which takes its inspiration from one of Scotland’s most famous artists in Charles Rennie Mackintosh, with high backed chairs and fine Scottish art throughout. Whilst the house was built in 1791, there is more of an Art Nouveau feel within, giving this holiday house a distinctive style. With an elegant drawing room with an open fire and dining room with wood-burning stove, there is also a well-equipped modern kitchen and games room. The bedrooms and bathrooms are on the two floors above, with each bedroom having a TV.

Set within 5 acres of grounds and with private access via a farm road, the grounds are private and there is plenty of parking for 6 vehicles. This popular country house is ideal for a family holiday or those wishing to base themselves within this popular golfing area. Turnberry is only a few miles away and is famed for hosting the British Open Golf Championship and a game played here when the wind blows is a challenge of any golfer. The local area, with its rugged terrain of hills and over sixty miles of sheltered coastline provides the perfect location for a family holiday.

The drawing room is an elegant room with an open fire and plenty of light comes into this room. With comfortable sofas and a music system within this room, this is an ideal room to relax in after a game of golf at Turnberry. To the rear of the house is a small games room, which has a low height ceiling and a ¾ size snooker table, which can be used for pool or snooker, and is perfect for younger members of the family.

Additionally there is a drying room, which can also store golf clubs and other bulky items. Along the corridor next to the drawing room is a utility room with large upright freezer and washer dryer. Next to that room is a bathroom with 1.8 metre long x 1 metre wide rainforest overhead shower plus upright attached shower with toilet. Full length mirror with lights and heat pad. Toothbrush/razor socket. Heated with shelf towel rail.

    Kitchen & Dining
The dining room has a Charles Rennie Mackintosh design theme, with a dining table and matching tall chairs in this style. The set-up is ideal for 10 people, but a further table can be added to seat 12 people. There is also a sofa, a TV and wood-burning stove in this room. The kitchen adjoins the dining room and this is a compact modern well laid out room. With an impressive range cooker and plenty of workspace, this is a good kitchen to work in. There is an upright fridge freezer, plenty of unit space and a dishwasher.

Stables (with 6 bays) can be made available (by arrangement) for anyone wishing to take their horses and these are located at the front of the house. The burn that runs down the side of the drive is known internationally as one of the best sites for fossil hunting, making this perfect for anyone interested in paleontology.

Located 18 miles south of Ayr, 2.5 miles from Turnberry and 54 miles from Glasgow, this property is ideal to enjoy the south west of Scotland. A general store and a farm shop are sited nearby, whilst major supermarkets can be found at Ayr, as well as many shops and restaurants. Turnberry is internationally renowned for the championship golf course, and this area has many to choose from with Prestwick and Royal Troon also in the vicinity. Sea fishing is available locally, with trips around Ailsa Craig. Culzean Castle is nearby and is worth a visit. A “Whisky Experience” visitor centre can be found nearby at Kirkoswald.

  • GROUP TYPES (OBJECTIVE JUSTIFICATION)
Due to prior bad experience, the owner of this property politely chooses not to welcome all male or all female groups whose sole purpose is to celebrate a 'stag or hen' event. As well as groups of couples and singles under 30 years old, who are not part of a mixed generational family group. Neither the Owner nor the Agent will accept any liability should a booking be confirmed as a consequence of non-disclosure of the above which may later result in a booking cancellation by the Owner. For more information on this matter please speak to a member of our staff.

    WEEKENDS
A limited amount of Short Breaks are accepted, though may not be considered at short notice.

    COVID-19 CHANGEOVERS

The owner has today notified us (20/7/20) that he will not be able to accommodate bed changes (e.g. from doubles to twins) during back to back changeovers over the summer period given the time it will now take to turn the property around in time for incoming guests. He has already doubled his cleaning team to accommodate the new cleaning guidelines and until they've had some experience with this new way of doing things, his team will not have time to convert doubles into twins.  Any requests that have already been made by guests at the point of booking will now be discussed with the owner privately. This note will be updated once the owner has determined what he can offer in future.  All beds are currently made up as doubles.

Truly beautiful period house in a peaceful setting. Mark the host was charming and very helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. The house is very well equipped and all the rooms are clean, comfortable and the sculptures and furniture are amazing. Our party of 11 had a great family weekend celebrating a 70th birthday. The weather was warm so we made good use of the BBQ and outdoor chairs. Plenty of interesting places nearby. Culzean castle, Heads of Ayr Farm Park, and the Robbie Burns museum are all worth a visit. We all agreed it would be a lovely venue for a Christmas/New Year gathering with the cosy rooms and log burning fires.

We have just returned from celebrating my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our group ranged in age from 4 to 76. The house itself is lovely. It comfortably sleeps 12 and the rooms are all large and spacious. The rooms at the front all have unobstructed views of Ailsa Craig so you can sit in the living room (or at the front of the house if the weather's nice) with great views of the rock and the sea. The house sits in 5 acres of grounds, so there was plenty of room to play tennis and football (sports equipment is provided in the house) as well as space for the kids to ride their bikes. When it's not so good, there's a snooker table and board games inside to keep everyone occupied. The location is suberb. It sits about 2 miles from Turnberry (where the golf resort is located), a few more to GIrvan where there's a supermarket, beach and restaurants, less than 30 minutes from Alloway (Robert Burns' birthplace) and an hour from Glasgow. A car is a must for exploring the area, although there is a train station in Girvan. The owner, Mark, was a fountain of knowledge about places to go and see. There wasn't a question that he couldn't answer, usually with multiple options. He met us at the property when we arrived and gave us a tour of the house and grounds. Having such a large a varied group, we didn't struggle for things to do. When the weather was sunny, we walked to Dow Hill farm (about 25 minutes), visited Turnberry Lighthouse and spent an enjoyable afternoon at Girvan beach (which we didn't even know existed). On the one bad day of our break, we visited the Burns Birthplace and Discovery Centre in Alloway. All in all, we had a great break in a lovely house located in a stunning setting. We now just need another excuse to go back and stay again!"

We've just returned home from a week away and what a fantastic week we had! We were a group of 13 from children to grandparents. The house is absolutely beautiful - spacious rooms and a well stocked kitchen, and the pool room was a real bonus. I'd read about the views from the house but actually nothing can really prepare you for it, photos don't really do it justice. We were lucky with the weather and had several clear evenings and just sat out watching the sky change for hours.
Mark was very welcoming when we arrived and showed us around the house, including some of his amazing designs which are in the house - he also gave loads of tips for local places to visit. He was even very accommodating of our need to squeeze in an extra child and provided a bed for us.
The extensive grounds are immaculately kept and the kids spent hours outdoors playing badminton and rounders on the lawns. Dogs are allowed at the property and ours had a ball. A BBQ was also provided and we certainly made good use of it! The beach is just a short drive from the house where you can park and walk down to Turnberry Lighthouse (there is a cafe there open to the public so you can have refreshments before walking back!). If you love Scotland as much as we do, this place is a must - there's loads to do locally like the beaches and Calzean Castle and Park and within easy driving distance of places like Galloway Forrest and Isle of Arran. And if you don't fancy going out, you can just stay at the house and enjoy the view

Very nice property with a great view over the firth and of Ailsa Craig. There was plenty of room even for 11 of us helped by a dining room and a separate living room. My only criticism was there was sometimes a problem with a lack of hot water in some of the showers,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback for this lovely holiday house. So nice to hear you enjoyed the stunning sea views and found the house spacious.

We have contacted the owner to check into the hot water concern as a matter of course and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

You are given a login and told on certain days when different instalments are due, i.e deposit, balance & GHD. Payment is made online. It feels slightly impersonal, but the whole process is very efficient. No complaints.

Thanks very much for the excellent rating for our service and glad you found the process efficient. Whilst we note due dates for payments on your initial holiday paperwork, an automatic reminder is also sent out closer to the time which we hope guests find helpful with keeping track of the holiday details!

This property was excellent. The location was very good with views to Ailsa Craig and to the Campbeltown peninsular. There was plenty of space around the house with well tended but not precious gardens, the dogs were very happy with the grounds and with the walk to the beach. The accommodation on three split levels was very well appointed with good quality bedding and furnishings, The kitchen was well appointed and had ample cookware, tableware and glassware to cater for a party of twelve.
Girvan is a short car ride away, Ayr a very pleasant drive about 30mins, and there is a farm shop within easy walking distance. Highly recommended

So nice to hear you would rate this property excellent and that you enjoyed the impressive sea views and the extensive gardens. We agree, the bedrooms are all very spacious with lovely furnishings and  artwork, this is a fabulous house for a memorable family holiday!

Service was simply as an agent, service was adequate for the job.

Many thanks for your feedback and we would be delighted to help with any future holiday plans.

This was a last minute booking for a family of 10 and we could not have wished for a more perfect stay. The house is wonderful and beautifully furnished. Our personal welcome by the owner was wonderful and a friendship that will be maintained in years to come. The beds are extremely comfortable, the kitchen very well equiped and the whole house very well appointed. The roaring fire commands that you sit beside it for quality family times with a glass of wine. Beautiful local walks and fresh air fill the day time and the local farmer is more than happy to stop and chat. A holiday experience that the whole family will never forget. I look forward to staying at the house in the future and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
