Holiday House with a view, near Dunblane (173C)

Located one hour from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, it feels miles away from civilisation, though in reality you are only a few miles from Marks and Spencer in Dunblane.

With this holiday venue, it is all about the setting and the spectacular vista. Situated in the foothills above Dunblane, it enjoys a westerly aspect that takes in 16 Munro mountains, across the battlefield of Sheriffmuir, all the way to Ben Lomond. The house sleeps 13 people and there is space galore inside and within the expansive grounds, which include a walk up to a pond. A housekeeper lives in the remaining cottage within the policy.

Refurbished to a high standard, on offer is a comfortable holiday house, with an outstanding view, in a secluded country setting, but only a few miles from the civilisation of Dunblane and Stirling. The open plan kitchen and dining area is a large welcoming space for everyone to relax, whilst the views from the conservatory and drawing room are breathtaking. In winter months, the use of a four wheel drive may be more appropriate for access. Please note that the sun room (not the main conservatory) you may see in any images has not been advertised and no longer forms part of the building.

Living Space

Reception rooms

The front door is situated by the turret tower, which brings you into an entrance hall with stairs to the floor above, and up to the impressive drawing room on the first floor. This is a large rectangular room with windows overlooking the garden to the rear and to the moorland to the front. On a clear day it may be possible to view 16 “Munro” mountains across the battlefield of Sheriffmuir, all the way to Ben Lomond. With a wood-burning stove, comfortable seating, small Hi-Fi and TV – with Sky box, this is a wonderful room to be entertained in. A conservatory, off the kitchen, offers additional seating and relaxing, with a TV for DVDs. There is also a large games room with a full size snooker table, which is popular with aldults and children alike.

Kitchen / Dining

The kitchen is the hub of the house and most groups gravitate here for the majority of their stay. Beautifully presented, it has been modernised in recent years and is a wonderful country kitchen. There is a traditional 4-oven AGA, which is accompanied by a 4-ring induction hob and double electric oven, allowing for catering for much more than the number required. With plenty of workspace and a work-island which can seat 3 people on bar stools, there is also a kitchen table that can seat up to 10 people. The dining room itself can seat up to 18 people over two tables if required. In the summer months, table and chairs are available at the patio area to the rear.

Grounds & Surrounds

Set within an enclosed policy, which is shared with a housekeeper’s cottage, access is via an electronic gate. With gardens to the rear and side, with woodland area beyond, all of which includes 20 acres of grounds. Beyond the house up the hill, there are some pleasant walks, and fly fishing for trout is available in season in two stocked ponds for residents, which is 10 minutes walk from the house.

Located 10 miles from Stirling, a few miles away from Dunblane, this property is centrally positioned geographically, being only 48 miles from Edinburgh and 35 miles from Glasgow. Shopping is easy with a Marks and Spencer store in Dunblane and further major supermarkets can be found in Stirling. Blair Drummond Safari Park is nearby and is a perfect day out for families. Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and the Wallace Monument are within easy reach. Fishing is available on the Teith. There are many golf courses in the area including Dunblane and Gleneagles. The nearest distillery is Deanston Distillery.

LocationDunblane

Dunblane is situated in the rolling countryside and picturesque woods of central Scotland. The Allan Water runs through the middle of the town and offers plenty of pretty river walks. The town has been a religious hub for over 1000 years and has a rich history. Its main attraction is the Cathedral, located near the centre. The original building was thought to have been 9th Century, but the majority of the cathedral you see today is 13th Century. Although perhaps not as ecclesiastically awesome as others, this smaller, medieval cathedral is still noble and grand, with some splendid gothic architecture. Dunblane is also home to the Leighton Library, the oldest private collection, and home to a number of very rare books and editions. Dunblane New Golf Club is a pleasant parkland course located to the east of the town.

Stirlingshire

Stirlingshire sits in the very centre of Scotland. The county town of Stirling itself is considered a gateway to the Highlands. The town and indeed the shire of Stirling has played a tremendous role in Scotland’s historical wars for Independence; with William Wallace’s defeat at the Battle of Falkirk, and Robert the Bruce’s famous Battle of Bannockburn, there are now several sites of historical interest to visit. The town of Falkirk lies in the Forth Valley, and boasts the impressive Falkirk Wheel, a rotating boat lift. The town of Blair Drummond is home to the Safari and Adventure Park; a fantastic family day out, and Edinburgh and Glasgow are both popular for day trips. Other towns of interest in Stirlingshire include Bridge of Allan, Grangemouth and Denny. To the west lies the Trossachs National Park, and the east shores of Loch Lomond. The spectacular highland beauty found here is ideal for nature lovers, and explorers.

Central Scotland

Incorporating the two largest Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Central Scotland is a hive of activities and attractions for visitors, and there will be plenty to entertain you on your trip. For a family outing try Edinburgh Castle, for a day at the beach try the Firth of Forth coastline, for shopping you can’t beat either city centre, or if you just want soaking up some Scottish landscapes try Perthshire’s rolling southern lowlands, and wilderness of its highland. Whatever takes your fancy, the central counties can offer it all. Airports at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Prestwick offer great transportation links for those coming from afar.

Ideal property for purpose of holiday..adults and kids.

House clean if a little tired in places. Be aware of recycling requirements so as not to incur the wrath of the caretaker: we made one genuine mistake and we told off.

My daughter's bridesmaids arranged a hen weekend at Cauldhame House, from the moment we arrived we agreed we could not have chosen a better house/location. Bev came over to introduce herself but give us a few pointers on heating etc... she made everyone feel very welcome even leaving us a present of homemade bread and marmalade! Thank's Bev. Although Cauldhame is remote, Dunblane and Stirling are close by. The house was very well equipped and really warm and inviting.
We will be booking again soon!

Cauldhame House è un posto favoloso in 10 ettari di terreno. Arredata con gusto e signorilità stile '800. Tutto molto confortevole e di prima categoria con grande attenzione ai dettagli. La Sig.ra Bev Wilson, la "caretaker" del posto ci ha fatto trovare un welcome pack consistente di pane e marmellata fatta in casa, uova, latte e burro. Anche se situata in un posto rurale, la graziosa cittadina di Dunblane a 6km offre tutte le amenità necessarie, i.e. negozi, pubs, ristoranti, una bellissima chiesa ed un museo. Si trova vicino Stirling e una quarantina di km da Edimburgo e Glasgow. Noi eravamo un gruppo di amici di 9 persone e nessuno di loro si è lamentato, anzi , hanno detto che hanno dormito benissimo in letti comodissimi con lenzuola di morbidissime lino.
La settimana è passata in fretta con il solo disappunto del tempo, ha piovigginato spesso! e non siamo riusciti a fare un barbecue, ma, in compenso c'era una "Aga cooker" con 5 forni sempre accesi. Abbiamo cucinato un squisito anello!. (La sg.ra Bev, ci persino fatto trovare una cassettina di erbe!)
E' veramente da raccomandare!!!

My family and I had an amazing week at Caildhame, we enjoyed the views, walks, wildlife and the house itself. The house was well catered for our extended family of 11 (5 adults and 6 children). My mum was very impressed with the sunset she saw from her window every day. The children enjoyed exploring the grounds and meeting the local wildlife.
