Description

This large country home is positioned in an area often referred to as the Gateway to the Galloway Hills, which once used to house fugitives in a period when Galloway was considered a wild and lawless place.  Enjoying commanding views of the undulating hills around Newton Stewart, in southern Scotland this former hotel has been recently converted into an impressively large holiday home.  Its interior is traditionally furnished in country house hotel style with a blend of antique and modern furniture, wood panelled walls and classical portraits. It’s well designed for large groups looking to enjoy weekend house parties or longer periods in a beautiful part of Scotland.

There are 10 generously proportioned bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms comfortably accommodating groups of 24 or more.

  • Reception rooms

There are three main reception areas on the ground floor, the vast lobby is used as the main lounge with open fire and piano.  Large French doors from the end of the lounge leads onto a paved terrace and gardens beyond.  Leading off the main lounge is a smaller lounge used as a games come TV room.   There is good (unlimited) wifi coverage in the main lounge areas only and 4G mobile network coverage in the area.

A wood panelled dining room with open fire leads off the main reception room and can accommodate a group of up to 18 comfortably on one long table, with a further two tables available to seat remaining (or additional) guests.  Alternatively if requested in advance, one long table could be made up in the main lounge to seat groups of up to 30 in one sitting.

There’s plenty of space to leave coats and boots in the main porch.  There are two separate w.c’s on this floor.  Access to the upper floors can be made via a serviced lift or the main staircase.

    Kitchen & Dining

A long ramp leads up from the lobby into a large catering kitchen, fully equipped to cope with large groups.  There’s plenty of space for families to enjoy cooking together. In addition to a commercial oven, there’s also a commercial sized fridge, a separate standing freezer, a large pot washer (like a dishwasher), wine fridge and ice maker.  A separate washroom houses an industrial dishwasher and for those who enjoy washing up by hand they can choose from two sinks designed for just that job!

  • This property can accommodate up to 20 adults and 4 children in 10 very generously proportioned bedrooms and 10 ensuite bathrooms spread across two floors accessed by staircases or the lift (large enough to accommodate a wheelchair).  Additional 'put up' beds can be requested for young children wishing to sleep in their parents room on request as extra.

    Additional Accommodation

Due to the size of some of the Master Suite bedrooms it would be possible for ‘put up’ beds to be set up for young children wishing to sleep in their parents rooms.  These can be made available on request as extra.

  • There’s plenty of parking at the front and rear of the property and with those thinking of hiring a coach please note there’s turning space suitable for one standard sized 30 seater coach.

The 8 acres of grounds are mostly well maintained lawns with mature trees and shrubs bordering onto the edge of Glenamour Forest from which there are miles of forest tracks and un-signed paths to discover.  Not a day goes by without visits from local wildlife; particular favourites being deer and red squirrels.  This ex-hotel lends itself well to al fresco meals and early evening drinks on the terrace.  A BBQ and outdoor furniture and games are provided in fine weather.

Newton Stewart is the closest village/town with a choice of supermarkets, shops and pubs.  Further afield you could drive an hour to the seaside town of Portpatrick on the western shore of the Rhins of Galloway Peninsula.
