Stately Holiday Home, near Skipton (UKC2803WH)

This luxurious historic home standing amidst 3,000 acres of stunning grounds, skirting the Yorkshire Dales National Park offers a unique destination for entertaining private house parties and special celebrations. The Hall is carefully curated by the 32nd generation in a line of custodians of the Estate dating back to the 11th century. This property is more than a large holiday home, it’s a rare opportunity to walk the halls of British history in a truly unique setting.  No need to worry about keeping the fires stoked as there’ll always be someone on hand to do that for you, as well as turn down your beds and cater to your every need. You won’t need to lift a finger during your stay with all meals prepared for you by the Estate chef and his team.

With nine reception rooms, seventeen bedrooms, extensive grounds and a parterre garden this property will mark a very special family reunion, corporate conference, anniversary or wedding.

GROUND FLOOR
You’ll be given a warm welcome from the start, no more so than on the ground floor where there are open fires in almost every room. Wooden floors throughout, softened by rugs and filled as you’d expect with antiques, portraits and exquisite furniture including examples by Gillows of Lancaster.

Saloon
The spacious saloon offers an impressive welcome as you ascend steps to enter through the pillared column porch entrance. With open fire and French doors leading to the library.

Conservatory
With feature mural wall, seating, stone floor and French doors leading to garden and grounds. It’s flooded with light and full of greenery and the hand-painted mural is sure to be a talking point over breakfast or afternoon tea.

Library
The library boasts over 5,000 books and a welcoming open fireplace designed by Charles Sylvester in the 19th century. Read about the history of England, the life of Napoleon Bonaparte or this historic Hall itself, which is now in the hands of the 32nd generation in a line of custodians of the Estate dating back to the 11th century.

Drawing rooms
Relax in one of two breath-taking drawing rooms, complete with stunning chandeliers, and a piano if you fancy a tinkle on the ivories. One was used as a film location for Emily Bronte’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. Both enjoy open fires.

Ante-room & Billiards room
No stately home comes without an impressive games room with full size billiards table and this is no different. It also displays a remarkable dolls house made in the 1920s by the current custodian’s grand-father from cigar boxes. It’s not one to be played with however you can read about its history and creation whilst admiring every detail which has been captured in miniature. A Bose ipod dock provides a modern touch to an otherwise charming ode to the past.

Dining room
An impressive state dining room, with extending mahogany table and matching chairs seating up to 32 guests quite comfortably. When fully dressed and the fire lit, this room is an opulent reminder of wealth, status and Royal connection.

Additionally on the ground floor are two lavatories (one for the ladies with a heated towel rail) and gallery in which guests congregate for pre-dinner drinks.

LOWER GROUND FLOOR
The kitchens are the domain of the Estate Chef and his team, all of whom will be made available to cater to your every need. There is also a scullery with a dining table and stone floor as well as separate gent’s toilets with a heated towel rail.

BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS
The 17 bedrooms are spread over the first and second floors with most offering fabulously spacious en-suite facilities or a separate bathroom close by. The bedrooms are individually named and furnished creating a unique and characterful, relaxing space in each one.

LocationYorkshire

By far the largest county in the UK, Yorkshire is extremely popular for its countryside retreats as well as the bright lights of some busy cities like Harrogate, Sheffield and Leeds. Scarborough is the oldest seaside resort in Britain.

Whitby has been voted the country's best beach and has a beautiful harbour and a Dracula museum to boot (the town is featured in the Bram Stoker vampire story of the same name, as well as some of its many movie adaptations).

Yorkshire has always had a great and not always friendly rivalry with the neighbouring county of Lancashire. Some of the bloodiest battles in English history took place in these shires, as the opposing Plantagenet houses of York and Lancaster fought a bitter civil conflict commonly known as the Wars of the Roses. Nowadays the competition takes place mostly on the cricket pitch.

The two counties are among the most famous teams in this oh so important English summer game. Yorkshire has the nickname “God's own county”, a reference to the beauty of its countryside, with several National Parks formed to protect its moors and dales and rugged coastline. Cliffs of limestone, chalk and jet guard its coast against the sea. Because of its considerable size, Yorkshire is often regarded as three distinct administrative areas called “ridings” (North, West and East Riding), a Scandinavian concept thought to derive from the Viking occupation in the first century AD.
