What if your future was the past? Well it could be if you choose to holiday in style at this beautiful Scottish castle with over 900 years’ of history.

On offer is this outstanding “Outlander” style castle set in 250 acres of parklands in the heart of Aberdeenshire. Essentially of 17th century origin, with a 12th century core with later additions in 1801 and 1851, in recent years it has been upgraded internally to include a Biomass 24-hour central heating system. Whilst retaining the amazing heritage and authenticity within, there are now modern comforts and fine furnishings throughout to make your stay a splendid one. Associated with Clan Leslie, entering into this delightful castle is like stepping back in time, but in warmth and comfort.

When entering by the front door, it opens out to a fine reception hall and into a vast elegant drawing room, which is ideal for entertaining. Beyond is the dining room, with table that can seat up to 16 people and the secondary sitting room, which is known as the library, which has the feel of a gentlemen’s club in London. The recently modernised catering kitchen is to the rear, along with an area where games can be played. All of the accommodation is on the floors above, and the bedrooms and bathrooms have been superbly furnished and updated in recent times.

The substantial grounds make a great space to relax in, whilst being a south facing castle, it gets so much light at the front of the castle, making this area a wonderful spot for al fresco dining in the summer months. The owners live in the rear of the building with their own separate designated parking area and recreational area. This is a castle that is ideal for family holidays, get-togethers, intimate weddings and weekends away.

Living Space

Reception rooms

The stylish drawing room, with an open fire and views to the front, is a large expansive room, with a selection of comfortable sofas and chairs for your group to relax in. With impressive feature marble fireplace with an antique gilt mirror above, this is a room that exudes grandeur and is the perfect place for a drinks party, intimate wedding or just to chill in style. The reception hall next door leads to the front door and is a great ante room. Also at the front of the castle is the secondary sitting room, with is known as the library, which has impressive locked bookcases full of leather bound books. The seating here is comfortable in wonderful authentic distressed leather armchairs and a sofa, with the addition of a TV with Freeview connection. To the rear of the house beyond the kitchen is some hall space which makes a great games area for children to play table tennis.

Kitchen / Dining

The front facing dining room, adorned with family portraits, houses a dining table that seats 16/18 people around it. This is a traditional dining room with a formal feel which comes alive when it is full of people. In the summer months al fresco dining may be possible to take advantage of the south facing frontage that gets so much sun. The kitchen is located to the rear of the house and is a modernised multi-purpose kitchen to be used as a catering kitchen or as a homely country style kitchen. A large oil-fired AGA , along with two traditional electric ovens, are available to cater for the group. The large central island workspace also provides seating for up to 4 people, which means children can be fed here and quick breakfasts for those who are up early.

First Floor – “Georgian” bedroom, has a king size double bed and is a suite that is connected to the next door bedroom, via a corridor with steps to; “Turret” bedroom, with two single beds, which has direct access to the shared bathroom (with “Georgian” bedroom), with bath with shower attachment, w.c and wash hand basin; a separate w.c is available in the front tower off the corridor; “Spanish” bedroom, has an antique king size double bed, with en-suite bathroom, with bath with shower attachment, w.c and wash hand basin; “Garden” bedroom is a rear facing room, with king size double bed, with en-suite shower room, with shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin; “Honeymoon” bedroom is the largest bedroom on offer, with half-tester king size double bed, with en-suite bathroom, with freestanding feature slipper bath with shower attachment, separate shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin; “Gold” bedroom, with king size double bed, with en-suite shower room, with shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin.

Grounds & Surrounds

Situated within 250 acres of grounds in a rural location accessed by a sweeping drive, surrounded by woodlands with a view overlooking Bennachie, makes this a fabulous rural base when staying in Aberdeenshire. The grounds include a front lawn which is south facing and there is plenty of parking available to the whole group. The owners live in the rear wing of the house and the drive takes you past this area to access the main section of the castle.

Located 22 miles north west of Aberdeen airport, this is an ideal venue to enjoy Aberdeenshire and the city of Aberdeen. For supermarkets, then nearby Inverurie is 9 miles away. For golfers, there is a good local course at Insch, with Royal Aberdeen and Trump International Links course within an hour. Fishing is available on the river Don, Dee or Deveron. For sight-seeing, Fyvie Castle is nearby and well worth a visit and the “Whisky Trail” is available in the area.

CATERING
Transfers to and from Aberdeen airport can be arranged with advance notice, along with in-house catering and a piper.

WEDDINGS
Please note that whilst wedding parties are allowed, please contact us to discuss prior to booking. A facility fee is applicable for any weddings that go above the capacity of the house and for the use of a marquee.

PETS
Two pets are welcomed on the ground floor of this property, please refer to the pet policy.

COT & HIGHCHAIR
This property can supply a cot & highchair, please make sure you submit a note on your booking form requesting these items are put out for your arrival.

The piano at this property is unused and not tuned on a regular basis, and is more a decorative item than a functional playing piano. Guests are welcome to play it, but for those wishing to arrange a musical event, then the provision of a professional keyboard may be more appropriate.



LocationInverurie

Nestled in the valley of the River Don, in Aberdeenshire, the small town of Inverurie is known as the Heart of the region of Aberdeenshire called Garioch.  The town is home to the Glen Garioch Distillery, open to visitors who wish to learn more about the great Scottish whisky. Inverurie Golf course offers pleasant parkland and 18 holes for visiting golfers. A few miles south of the town is the striking Castle Frazer, where you can wander the baronial tower and attractive grounds and gardens. For keen walkers and explorers, the town is close to Bennachie, offering gentle walks or hikes to the top, the countryside has beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. The Bennachie Centre offers a lovely starting point to your exploration, where you can learn about the heritage of the place and people who lived in the area. 

Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire, located on the north east of Scotland’s mainland, boasts a unique array of landscape and heritage.  The historic county of Banffshire on the north coast is now commonly considered to be part of Aberdeenshire. The many miles of easterly coastline offers rugged cliffs as well as sandy beaches and appeals to watersport enthusiasts. The inland westerly border incorporates the Cairngorm National Park, attracting walkers and explorers. The region is home the Lecht Ski Resort, and Glenshee Ski Resort, so really can cater for a massive range of sports! Investigation of the Castle Trail is a must – the trail takes in 17 of the best castles Aberdeenshire has to offer, including Balmoral Castle, seasonal home to the Royal Family. Aberdeen plays a part in the oil and gas industry forming a land base for the North Sea oil rigs, however don’t be deceived by what you may find here – the city has won the ‘Britain in Bloom’ award a record breaking 13 times, thanks to its incredible number of parks and gardens, and is home to a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. Its nickname the ‘Granite City’ is courtesy of its quarrying history, and the famous 'Granite Mile' (Union Street) is home to many shops. The traditional neighbouring towns of Banff and Macduff sit on either side of the River Deveron, a popular fishing river, and nearby you will find the magnificent Duff House. Other large towns in the area include Peterhead and Fraserburgh, both fishing towns on the north east coast, and the market town of Inverurie. 

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.
