Luxury Holiday House, near Blairgowrie (107)

This beautiful holiday home offers luxury accommodation with a real homely feel. Tucked away amongst mature trees in the beautiful surrounds of Glenshee, it provides a tranquil escape for groups of up to 20 guests. Formally a shooting lodge, this large holiday house has plenty of charm and character, and with recent refurbishment throughout now boasts elegant décor, modern facilities and sumptuous soft furnishings. Heating and hot water is provided by a super-green biomass boiler, providing warmth and cosiness whatever the weather – making trips into the great outdoors even more rewarding!

The location is just 90 minutes from Edinburgh by car, providing easy access to many areas of natural beauty, golf courses, shooting and hunting establishments, castles and much more.

Whether you’re looking to gather family or friends, hold a celebration or even your wedding, this superb Scottish holiday house really does offer a welcoming and memorable experience for all.

Living Space

Reception rooms

Through the front door you’ll find yourself walking into a smart, well-lit entrance hall with wood polished floors, a comfortable leather armchair and heavy oak sidetable, overlooked on either side by family portraits old and new.

The hall leads into a large, light filled drawing room, with open fire, well upholstered furniture, antique bookshelves and a grand piano. With views of the gardens at both the front and side of the house this room is a lovely spot to enjoy a drink, particularly in the afternoon when the sun streams through the windows.

There are two further sitting rooms, more contemporary in style, but equally comfortable. These are keen favourites with the children on the basis there’s access to a TV in both, but one in particular lends itself to being more of a playroom with its assorted games, toys and books, SKY TV, Nintendo Wii and suite of DVD’s.

Central heating and hot water is available 24 hours a day from our bio-mass boiler system. The house is always invitingly warm, and the hot water piping.

Wifi is available in the main part of the downstairs of the house. Please bear in mind that this is a rural area and the owners are unable to get super-fast broadband. There is a pay-phone available for guest use in the house. Mobile network signals are improving in the area, with Vodafone and O2 seeming to be the best.

Kitchen / Dining

The formal dining room is wide and long. It’s a classic contemporary space with polished wooden floors and mahogany dining table with matching chairs, seating up to 20 guests.

The kitchen is clearly the hub of the house, very generously proportioned with a large breakfast table with built in seating in one corner of the room (seats 12), plenty of surface space for preparing meals as well as a neat galley style mezzanine (up two steps) with plenty of additional storage and work tops (including a second sink). Clearly a lot of thought has been put into the facilities provided in this room and given the owners include a professionally trained chef, it could be argued it’s one of the best used rooms in the house.

If you were thinking of upgrading your self-catering experience, the owners would be only too delighted to provide a variety of meal options as extra, if requested at the time of booking.

Blairgowrie, in Perthshire, was once one of the larger Scottish towns, connected with the flax and jute trade and home to a large number of spinning mills. Located on the banks of the River Ericht, the town is a starting point for a number of pleasant walks, taking in the river, and a number of the old mills and derelict weirs. The town is a popular stay for anglers, with Salmon, Brown Trout and Sea Trout fishing available seasonally, and with golfers, thanks to the offerings of Blairgowrie Golf Club’s three courses, Rosemount, Landsdowne, and the smaller 9 hole Wee Course. The pretty town is also the starting point for the 60 mile Cateran Trail, following the historic route taken by cattle rustlers!

Perthshire is a natural choice for visitors as geographically it is in the very heart of Scotland. Its popularity is no wonder; with the lush lowland pastures of the south meeting the rugged grandeur of the Highlands, this county is beautifully rich in scenery and magnificent landscapes. The old county of Kinross-shire is now generally considered to be part of this region, and the local council area is now called Perth and Kinross. Kinross sits beside the beautiful Loch Leven, with Lochleven Castle nearby. The central point is the city of Perth, the fair city bustles with life, with the river Tay running through it. The impressive Scone Palace is nearby, which was the crowning place for Scottish Kings. Perthshire is also home to the world famous Gleneagles Hotel and leisure complex. This is also Big Tree Country, with the world's highest hedge at Meikleour, Europe's oldest tree, the widest conifer in Britain, the sole survivor from Shakespeare's Birnam Wood and many more fascinating trees. Why not visit Glenshee and take part in some skiing, or try mountain biking through the many hills and glens. Blair Castle is an impressive site, and with expansive grounds and an adventure playground, will entertain the whole family.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.
