Elegant Stately Home, near Aberdeen

On offer is one of the most charming country houses in Scotland set in delightful grounds and gardens, with easy access to the busy city of Aberdeen.

This is a Scottish country house that exudes charm and character with a fascinating history that goes back centuries. Set in 20 acres of well maintained grounds, gardens, lawns and woodland, this traditional country house is a joy to walk into and soak up the atmosphere. The large reception hall is a great place to welcome your guests in style before moving to the stylish drawing room with its open fire to add further warmth. Next door is the equally fine dining room, which is adorned in the country house style. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are to be found on the floor above, which involve many steps as you walk through different eras of the house itself. A housekeeper lives on the estate and is on hand if required, whilst gardening staff come and go in the garden. Easily accessible from anywhere in the UK, with Aberdeen International airport nearby, this country house has entertained kings and queens from around the world and is available to royally entertain again on a self-catering basis.

Living Space

Reception rooms

The first thing you will notice is what an impressive large space the reception hall is and a great place to have drinks and to meet and greet your guests. From here you can go into the large drawing room, with its comfortable sofas and open fire, which is a light airy room at the corner of the building. The stylish dining room is located next door with the main table seating up to 16, with the addition of a smaller table to dine 18 people. A study is opposite, which is a cosy room with comfortable seating, with views overlooking the garden. On the first floor there is also a “Bridal room”, which is a dressing room which can be used for any event that requires an additional room. There are two cloakrooms available either side of the reception hall, both with w.c’s, with one of them being wheel chair friendly.

Kitchen / Dining

The elegant dining room is located off the drawing room and is a bright room full of ancestral pictures. The main table can seat up to 16 people and with an addition of a smaller table, all 18 people can be seated within this room. The kitchen is the other side of the reception hall and is a practical kitchen with an AGA and an electric hob and oven, allowing plenty of cooking capacity for the numbers required. Additionally there is a larder next door for additional storage, and a utility room beyond. A breakfast room is off the kitchen, with a table that can seat 10 to 12 people. A rear door allows easy access to the kitchen, and the room that houses any visiting dogs is at this entrance.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms - Sleeps 18

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the floor above, but note that there are many steps and different levels on this first floor due to the differing periods of the house that you are actually located in. Of the 10 bedrooms, there are 6 principal bedrooms, with the other 4 bedrooms being in what was the “servant’s quarters” and being slightly smaller rooms. Of the 6 principal rooms, there are 4 bedrooms with zip-and-link beds for double or twin use, 2 with en-suite bathrooms and 2 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The other 4 bedrooms include 1 zip-and-link bedded room, 1 double bedroom and 2 single bedrooms. All the bedrooms are named and can be identified and chosen for your guest’s usage in advance.

Grounds & Surrounds

Accessed via an electronic gate and set within a walled enclosure of 20 acres, there is an impressive drive, which leads up to the house. With a lawn to the side where croquet can be played in the summer, to the rear there a decorative pond and parkland. The rest of the garden includes further lawn, decorative areas and a walled garden, which in the summer months will be a wonderful sight.  Located in a country setting inland from the sea, between Aberdeen and Stonehaven, it is only 10 miles from the bustling vibrant city of Aberdeen.  Golf courses in the area include Royal Aberdeen and Trump International at Menie. Whilst in the area a trip to Dunnottar Castle is a must, whilst a tour in Royal Deeside is always popular. Fishing on the Dee for salmon is a popular pastime. Local distilleries include Fettercairn, Glen Garioch and Royal Lochnagar.

LocationAberdeen

Dubbed the ‘Granite City’ due to its wealth of buildings constructed from the locally mined granite stone, Aberdeen is a thriving cosmopolitan city located in the north east of Scotland. Situated between the river mouths of the Dee and Don, and with the North Sea coast line to the east the city is surrounded by a lot of water, and as such has a rich maritime heritage, and enjoys a fantastic golden sand beach. The city itself is famous for its Granite Mile, a street bustling with shops, restaurants and bars, terminating in the West End which is home to much of the city’s cosmopolitan nightlife. Aberdeen has been a multiple winner of Britain in Bloom, thanks to its wealth of beautiful parks and gardens. The city is home to a number of galleries and museums demonstrating the city’s heritage and art influences.   

Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire, located on the north east of Scotland’s mainland, boasts a unique array of landscape and heritage.  The historic county of Banffshire on the north coast is now commonly considered to be part of Aberdeenshire. The many miles of easterly coastline offers rugged cliffs as well as sandy beaches and appeals to watersport enthusiasts. The inland westerly border incorporates the Cairngorm National Park, attracting walkers and explorers. The region is home the Lecht Ski Resort, and Glenshee Ski Resort, so really can cater for a massive range of sports! Investigation of the Castle Trail is a must – the trail takes in 17 of the best castles Aberdeenshire has to offer, including Balmoral Castle, seasonal home to the Royal Family. Aberdeen plays a part in the oil and gas industry forming a land base for the North Sea oil rigs, however don’t be deceived by what you may find here – the city has won the ‘Britain in Bloom’ award a record breaking 13 times, thanks to its incredible number of parks and gardens, and is home to a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. Its nickname the ‘Granite City’ is courtesy of its quarrying history, and the famous 'Granite Mile' (Union Street) is home to many shops. The traditional neighbouring towns of Banff and Macduff sit on either side of the River Deveron, a popular fishing river, and nearby you will find the magnificent Duff House. Other large towns in the area include Peterhead and Fraserburgh, both fishing towns on the north east coast, and the market town of Inverurie. 

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.

Extremely professional. Great under pressure. We had booked an alternate property initially and it all fell thru (no fault of Scotts Castle) due to extenuating circumstances. Scotts castle rallied and found us a wonderful replacement with no small amount of effort due to the number of people we had to accommodate. Terrific job on there behalf. They saved our holiday and our anniversary party!
