Luxury Seaview Mansion, near Oban (316)

Also known as the Gateway to the Isles, the seaside town of Oban is a popular destination for those wanting to explore Scotland’s West Coast.  This luxury holiday home was built in an era when wealthy merchants showed off their status by building homes in a similar design, albeit on a smaller scale, to those of the nobles.

The property enjoys fabulous sea-views, set back on a hill overlooking the town. It’s been built to entertain large house parties with spacious contemporary reception rooms and modern bedrooms. With a hot tub, large entertainment area and firepit outside, it makes a fantastic venue for a group holiday or celebration.

Kate, the owner, wants you to feel like you're having a luxurious experience in Oban and has made sure she's created a relaxing, ambient environment in which guests can truly wind-down and enjoy some of the best Scotland has to offer.

Weekends and mid-week breaks are welcome as well as longer lets. Kate welcomes all groups looking for five star accommodation in Oban for short breaks mid-week.  Depending on the season lower mid-week rates apply so please don't hesitate to enquire.

Living Space

Reception rooms

The entrance leads into a large hall, off which are two reception rooms, the dining room, kitchen and butlers pantry. The large reception rooms overlook the Firth of Lorn making the most of the views with (almost) floor to ceiling sash windows. The cinema room has an 86 inch Smart TV with surround sound and a bluetooth speaker which can be used independently for music.  Close the window shutters to get the darkened cinema feel.

In addition there’s a w.c. and ground floor kingsize bedroom in an area that used to be the servants lounge off the back of the kitchen. This is the only bedroom in the house with a TV and DVD player in it.  It would make use of the downstairs w.c. and share the family bathroom on the half landing.

What used to be the old 'carriage house' has been turned into a games room with snooker table and table tennis table.  The snooker table can easily be converted into a roulette or games table with the use of a top that sits against a wall.  This room retains its yesteryear charm with its large oak rafters and is decked with comfortable sofas and a bluetooth speaker.

Kitchen / Dining

The kitchen is large and well equipped with all the kit required to cater for large house parties.  There's a large farmhouse table comfortably seating 8 which makes it ideal for feeding children and having staggered breakfasts.

The addition of a Butler’s Pantry between the kitchen and dining room is also a useful touch.  The butlers pantry has a wine fridge and makes a perfect cocktail station!

Grounds & Surrounds

You’ll find a fabulous paved entertainment area on a terraced garden overlooking the Firth of Lorn which in turn overlooks the Islands of Mull, Kerrera and Lismore. A 9 seater outdoor 'sunbrella' sofa provides a fabulous vantage point to enjoy watching boats traversing the sea inlet in comfort.

A 7 seater large hot tub and firepit are also fun additions, particularly in good weather.  There are 3 paved entertainment areas in total, one on each side of the house and one at the front, which means no matter the time of day you'll always be able to catch the sun.  There’s private gated parking available for 6 cars within the grounds.

It's a 5 minute walk into town where you'll find a growing selection of good quality restaurants, pubs and shops.  There's a swimming pool and leisure centre also within a 5 minute walk of the house.  A walk to the train station is 10 minutes.

Oban makes a great touring base for travel to the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides. By train, Scotrail travels straight into Oban, from which point it’s a few minutes cab ride to the property. By car, the journey from Glasgow airport is approx 2 hours 15 minutes (3 hours by train) along a very scenic part of Scotland including Loch Lomond and the Trossochs National Park.

Top 3 Things We Love

- its location; being able to walk into Oban means you've got access to shops, pubs and restaurants not to mention the ability to Island Hop using the ferry services

- its outdoor entertainment space; who doesn't like the idea of sitting outside on comfortable furniture or in a warm bubbling hot tub looking across to the Isle of Skye

- its modernity; Kate wants you to feel like you're staying in a boutique hotel and has made sure she's filled it with the comfort and ambience to match

LocationOban

Informally known as the Gateway to the Isles, the bustling and lively town of Oban is situated on the west coast of Argyllshire, at Oban Bay. Enjoying splendid views across the water to the Scottish Isles, the town is a fantastic base for exploring, with cruises and ferry running along the coast and across to many of the islands. The centre offers a great range of cafés and restaurants, and is dubbed the seafood capital of Scotland. If you are feeling energetic, take a hike up the hill to the striking McCaig Tower. The colosseum style ruins enjoy a commanding situation overlooking the town, and fantastic views! Oban Distillery and visitor centre offers a great day out, where you can enjoy a tour of the facilities. Clan MacDougall were based in this area historically, and the ruins of two of their strongholds can be found nearby, Dunollie Castle on the shores of the bay, and Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel further along the coast overlooking the Firth of Lorn.

Argyllshire

Argyllshire is one of the larger of the Scottish counties. Located in the west, Argyll incorporates the coastline and isles between the Mull of Kintyre up to Ardnamurchan. The area’s biggest attraction is its immense range of landscapes; with miles of rugged cliffs and mountainous highland scenery to discover, as well as beautiful woodlands, the area is a dream destination for nature lovers. Why not visit the magnificent volcanic rock island of Staffa, where the puffins make their summer home? Or join the Beaver Trail to spot the elusive mammal recently reintroduced to the area. You could also take in the Gulf of Corryvreckan on the island at Jura, the third largest natural whirlpool in the world! Island hopping tours are a great way to discover the isles of Argyll, and for keen walkers, the mountainous landscapes of the likes of Ardgour, and the westerly range of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are well worth a visit. Towns to take in include Oban, a resort town nestled on the Firth of Lorn; Dunoon, home to the famous Cowal Highland Gathering, an annual highland games; and Campbeltown, the county’s historic centre for whisky, fishing and ship-building.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.
