Boutique Luxury Castle, near Forfar (300)

If you are looking for a luxury country house with a capital L, then this Visit Scotland 5 star rated exclusive use venue ticks all the boxes marked LUXURY

This ultra-smart Baronial castle tucked away in the Scottish Grampian Mountains is an exclusive playground for high net worth individuals. Located in the heart of Scotland it’s within easy distance of Championship golf courses, airports and has its own helipad for fly-in/fly-out gatherings. Operating along the lines of a boutique ‘exclusive use’ hotel, this magnificent country home is filled with fine art and is designed with guest comfort in mind, following a ‘touch of tartan meets exotic’ theme.

Set in 20 acres of private grounds with terraced lawns, there are wonderful views overlooking the Angus glens, with plenty of entertainment space for outside entertaining. The iconic ancient stone circle located at the end of the infinity lawn is a favourite spot with guests for ceremonies or just sitting out during the day or in the evenings; warmed by the firepit on cooler nights.

A wealth of activity can be provided on request from game hunting to fishing excursions, hillwalking tours, archery and falconry. If you don’t feel like moving off-site there are dozens of facilities for you to enjoy in the castle itself, including whisky tastings, wine and food pairings, chocolate making workshops, cookery lessons and more. There are also all the usual toys to keep groups entertained, including an American size pool table, a table tennis table, fully stocked bar, Sound System and more.

The pricing for this property is POA. No one enquiry or booking is the same and are thus handled directly by the owner, Yvonne. Once your requirements have been established, she will provide you with a bespoke quote.  All in-house catering, activities and other services will be arranged for you.  Guests will enjoy the vel of service, including full butler service etc.

1 and 2 night breaks are accepted all year round.  Prices will be quoted initially on a basic semi-catered package until your full requirements are understood at which point a final quote will be provided.  All catering will be handled in-house and organised for you as well as activities, day trips, helicopter hire and any other experiences. Guests will enjoy the use of a full butler service during their stay.

The castle can only be booked out exclusively for groups of up to 20, although smaller groups are also welcomed on request where possible.

Living Space

Reception rooms

All reception rooms are immaculately presented and include a grand drawing room, a formal library, a wood panelled dining room and a beautiful conservatory, where breakfast or informal suppers can be taken.

The tartan lounge (called this way for good reason!) has comfortable sofas placed around a wood-burning stove and great views across the lawn from the bay window. Next door you'll move into the more formal music room with open fire and grand piano. Opposite is a small library, filled with leather bound antique books, which for smaller groups of up to 8 can be turned into a lovely dining room.

The hall leads into the conservatory, which can be used as an additional sitting room or for additional dining. Beyond is a large double-room, the games room, which has a pool table in one section and a feature bar and comfortable seating at the other. Additionally there is a glass roofed tartan covered courtyard to the rear with wood burning stove, which can be used as a dance hall for an organised ceilidh or as an extra room to entertain guests.

Each wedding is unique so there's no set ‘wedding package’ available. Your requirements would first have to be discussed with the owner, Yvonne who'll then provide you with a quote taking into account your individual needs.  Yvonne limits the number of weddings she holds here to a handful a year.  The majority of which tend to be overseas guests looking for a unique wedding experience. By limiting numbers it allows Yvonne and her team to give you their absolute attention, ensuring the event exceeds expectation.

The ‘Wedding Room’ can seat up to 120 for dinner and dancing and the conservatory can hold 30 for a wedding service or you can use the tartan courtyard as your rainy day back up for the ceremony (capacity 90). There’s the option of adding a GLASS STRUCTURE seating an additional 120 for the wedding dinner to avoid having to put up a marquee.

If you're interested in making an enquiry for your wedding please say so at the time of enquiry, making sure to provide as much information as possible on the numbers of guests you'd like to invite.

Yvonne tends to specialise in organising 'destination weddings' for overseas guests and this castle would particularly suit those types of enquiries.

Kitchen / Dining

The main kitchen is bespoke built by Clive Christian and is a thing of beauty, with a chef’s kitchen next door for more professional undertakings. Guests are encouraged to use the kitchen to prepare snacks or use the coffee making facilities.  There's a fridge available for for their use and equipment provided if they'd like to cook a few of their own meals.  Guests also find the kitchen is also another nice 'hangout' space.

The dining room is a beautiful wood panelled room with bold colours of red, black and gilt, making this room a striking setting for dining. The table can accommodate up to 22 people and additional dining space can be arranged in the conservatory for less formal breakfasts or for a more formal occasion.  For smaller groups dinner can also be served in the library, whisky room and wine cellar.  In fact it's quite common depending on length of stay for guests to be served dinner in different rooms each evening. It keeps it interesting!

In the cellar in a controlled temperature, whisky and wine tastings can be arranged with advance notice.

    - its floor to ceiling wood panneled library; a lot of holiday reading could be accomplished in this room

    - whoever bags the enormous Master Suite, it has to be the spa bath in the sizeable (!) bathroom

Forfar is a small market town in Angus, once a major manufacturing centre for linen and jute, situated just off the main A90 road between Perth and Aberdeen. Providing a range of local shopping from antique emporiums to boutique craft shops and cafes. The town also supports a couple of high street banks, a post office, some better known high street retail shops and supermarkets. Forfar is near to the Angus Glens which offer superb hill & moorland walking, including ten Munro's as well as miles of narrow twisting roads and ancient footpaths, great for cyclists, drivers and walkers.

The Glens (most notably Glen Cova, Glen Doll and Glen Isla) offer an abundance of wildlife sightseeing opportunities from ospreys to eagles, stags and hinds as well as the more common sightings of highland cows and sheep. Wildlife and birdlife aplenty as well as stunning colour changes to the landscape as the heather and moorland grasses come in and out of flower.

From pristine sandy beaches, rolling agricultural landscapes and the majestic heather clad hills and lush forests of the Angus Glens, Angus offers a range of breath taking scenery to soak up. Out in the countryside there are many Munros which offer superb walking opportunities or there is some of the best salmon and sea trout fishing in Scotland. The city of Dundee has a vibrant and lively centre; a great family day out, with fantastic shopping facilities! The harbour is home to the Discovery Point Visitor Centre, home to the spectacular ship RRS Discovery. Arbroath is an old fishing port famous the world over for its smoked fish, the Arbroath Smokie. It was here, in the Abbey, that the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320. The coastal town of Montrose offers beautiful sandy beaches, and is home to a large nature reserve known as the Basin, a haven for wildlife, a special favourite for wading birds due to its muddy nature! There are also wonderful beaches at Lunan Bay and St Cyrus. The spectacular Glamis Castle, which was the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, is a fantastic family day out, and golfers must pay a visit to the famous Carnoustie championship golf course.

    Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.
