Isolated Highland Lodge, near Kinloch Rannoch

There are few places in the world where our footprints have not scarred the landscape, but this is one of them. If you ache for quiet splendour in peaceful surrounds come no further.

In a spectacular setting on a 34,000 acres estate, this Victorian shooting lodge is the perfect location to explore the untouched Scottish wilderness. With breathtaking scenery overlooking Loch Ericht, with frequent reports of Golden Eagles sighted overhead, it is surrounded by a ha-ha and deer fence to keep the deer off the lawn. Fishing is available for trout on the loch in season and you are welcome to bring your own boat. Within, you know you are in a traditional shooting lodge, with antlers on the wall, tartan throughout and a roaring fire in the drawing room. It is ideal for 12 adults and 5 children, with the dining table seating 12 only. The bedrooms are scattered throughout the top floors, each with their own unique and cosy charm. A gamekeeper’s cottage is a short distance away to the rear. Accessible by an 11 mile private road, which is not open to the public, the lodge is not available during the winter months.

Living Space

Reception rooms

Access is normally via the kitchen to the rear, as this is where the parking is, and it is easier to use this entrance. Off the T-shaped corridor, which are bedecked with many antlers, is the sitting room, which enjoys views over the loch. There are comfortable sofas and plush armchairs to relax and unwind in the warmth of the fire. Sitting here is like sitting in a showroom of how a traditional shooting lodge should look – but this is the real thing. Furthermore there are two more rooms to enjoy, a smaller TV room and a study with board games for family members to enjoy playing a game of their choosing.

Kitchen / Dining

The dining room is a traditional shooting lodge room with fine pictures of fishing scenes and antiques throughout. The dining table seats 8/10 people, and is limited to this number due to the size of the mahogany table that fits this room. The kitchen is to be found along the corridor and is a lovely country kitchen. With table and chairs for up to 8 people, there is plenty of space for people to chat whilst a nominated cook gets about their business. A large stainless steel cooking range is ideal for catering for the whole of the lodge and there is a larder next door for storing foodstuffs, with a chest freezer at the front. Additionally there is a breakfast room next door where breakfast or a more informal meal can be served.

LocationKinloch Rannoch

Kinloch Rannoch is a village located by Loch Rannoch surrounded by mountains including the impressive Schiehallion. This is a great base for water based activities on the loch and walking in the hills. Access is via Tummel Bridge and Pitlochry. The Perthshire town is easily accessible, being just off the A9 road, and is considered a gateway to the Highlands. Located on the River Tummel and with a spectacular highland hills backdrop the area is ideal for walkers and cyclists. Killiecrankie wooded gorge is a beautiful landscape to discover. The setting of a battle during the Jacobite uprisings, you can learn its history at the Visitors Centre, and for daredevils, bungee jumping is available! The nearby Atholl Palace is now a museum, and has beautiful grounds and gardens to explore, and the magnificent Blair Castle is also open to the public. For any nature lovers, the Explorers Garden would be worth a visit, the gardens represent the exploration into world flora, with specimens from all over the world.

Perthshire

Perthshire is a natural choice for visitors as geographically it is in the very heart of Scotland. Its popularity is no wonder; with the lush lowland pastures of the south meeting the rugged grandeur of the Highlands, this county is beautifully rich in scenery and magnificent landscapes. The old county of Kinross-shire is now generally considered to be part of this region, and the local council area is now called Perth and Kinross. Kinross sits beside the beautiful Loch Leven, with Lochleven Castle nearby. The central point is the city of Perth, the fair city bustles with life, with the river Tay running through it. The impressive Scone Palace is nearby, which was the crowning place for Scottish Kings. Perthshire is also home to the world famous Gleneagles Hotel and leisure complex. This is also Big Tree Country, with the world's highest hedge at Meikleour, Europe's oldest tree, the widest conifer in Britain, the sole survivor from Shakespeare's Birnam Wood and many more fascinating trees. Why not visit Glenshee and take part in some skiing, or try mountain biking through the many hills and glens. Blair Castle is an impressive site, and with expansive grounds and an adventure playground, will entertain the whole family.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.

21st August 2016 Excellent

The An Tochailt lodge is located at a very beautiful, quiet and unique location within less than 100 metres of the shore of Loch Ericht. It is isolated, with no nearby houses and away from the village of Dalwhinnie and only accessible by a secured gravel road, meaning there is very little traffic. From within you have a superb view on the Loch and adjoining mountains.

It is luxuriously and stylishly decorated and upon our arrival we were greeted by the smell of freshly chopped wood in the fireplace - which you can use if you want, there are detailed operating instructions. The heating had already been turned on (slightly as it wasn't that cold in the summer), making us feel instantly welcome. The lodge was very clean as well, we were able to walk barefooted to enjoy the feel of the authentic wooden floor and carpets without getting dirty feet :) The rooms and especially the bathrooms were spacious (very large showers) and comfortable.

Staying here was one of our highlights of our visit to the Highlands of Scotland. Hearthily recommended!

Service rating : Many thanks for your excellent feedback, we are thrilled to hear you found the service impeccable and all questions were answered swiftly for you. Great to also hear you found our new payment page accessible via the website.

19th November 2014 Great

Great property, very isolated - exactly what we looked for. The access to the property was secured and easy. However, we were a bit disappointed by the double beds - there was only 1 and it was quite small. As a couple we had only 1 choice, and it was also the only room where there was a leek during the heavy rain on Friday and it started to get inside the room.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found our booking process quick and easy. The only fee we charge on top of the advertised rental is a £20 booking fee for our service, so were a little unsure which extra fee’s you are referring too, but please let us know if you have any further information so we may investigate.

Great that you liked the property and the location was what you had hoped for! The lodge was booked as advertised on our website, but by all means if you require different bedroom configurations next time, just let us know and we could always help with the search for you. Sorry to hear about the leak in the bedroom, we hope the estate office being first point of contact for any issues during your stay, were able to help resolve this quickly for you.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us again in the future, we would be happy to help.
