The small but picturesque town of Forres, in Moray, is a tranquil location to enjoy Scottish Highland life. With the River Fondhorn nearby, and the Burn of Mosset running through the town, there is plenty of beautiful walking available. The nearby 16th Century Brodie Castle is a treasure trove of antiquities and architecture, and has an impressive adventure playground for the kids! The town has two distilleries; Benromach is a working site with a visitor centre, and although Dallas Dhu no longer distills, Historic Scotland has preserved the site in perfect working order, for visitors to explore. Forres has a 18 hole golf course set in beautiful parkland, and is home to Sueno’s Stone, a 20 foot pictish carved monument encased behind glass, commemorating the historic Norse war. Legend has it this is also where Shakespeare’s Macbeth met the witches!

Located in the Highlands on the north coast of Scotland, Moray is one of the smaller of Scotland’s counties. There are some mountainous features including Bin Hill, but its main draw is the magnificent coastline, along the Moray Firth. Dolphin watching is most popular, with boat trips available to spot the many sea creatures that frequent the area. Seals, porpoises and the occasional whale have been seen in the Firth. The area of Culbin Sands, Culbin Forest and Findhorm Bay is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the Sands are an RSPB Reserve. The county is in the heart of Whisky country, with a vast number of distilleries in the area, including the historic Dallas Dhu, pristinely preserved and open to the public. For real enthusiasts, the Whisky Trail takes in many of the local distilleries in this area and is worth investigating! Towns and villages in the county include the fishing town of Lossiemouth on the north coast; Elgin, the historic city, home to the dramatic Elgin Cathedral ruins; and Forres, home to Brodie Castle and the Falconer Museum. Other attractions in the area include Spynie Palace, the former residence of the Bishop of Moray, Knockando Wool mill at Aberlour.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.

12th September 2013 Great

The property was good and well equipped except for some missing champagne glasses which were missing even after the owners assured us that there was a full complement.
There was also a problem with the heating system cutting out, this fault was temporarily repaired but still exists when we left.

Many thanks for your feedback. We are pleased you found our service and website helpful. A report has been sent to the castle for a review to improve the service in future. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help with any future holiday plans to Scotland and we will be happy to assist!

10th July 2013 Excellent

Excellent accommodation and level of equipment supplied. It would be nice if there was a private garden for the use of residents? Ability to open windows in the castle apartment would make things a bit more comfortable too!!

Great that you enjoyed Brodie apartment. As advertised the gardens are all open to the public, which is unlikely to change but we will of course pass your comments onto the owner.

Thank you for additional comments regarding card providers, I shall pass these on to our I.T department to investigate.

Please don't hesitate to get back in touch with us again and claim your loyalty discount next time, if you have any future plans!(T&C's apply)
