Located in the Lammermuir Hills to the south of Edinburgh can be found this distinctive Peel Tower, which has been restored in recent years to provide upmarket castle accommodation. With dates that go back to 1350, this is predominantly a 15th century tower with unusual rounded corners and oblong in shape. Its dimensions are 40 foot by 26 foot with thick walls, to a height of 65 foot, with four storeys, all accessed by the turnpike stairs.
The front door is located on the west side of the castle and leads directly into the impressive dining room with kitchen, with under-floor heating and a wood-burning stove, so a warm welcome awaits. The Great Hall is located on the second floor where there is a magnificent drawing room with a feature fireplace, which is a very comfortable place to be settled after a day’s sightseeing or walking. A smaller sitting room is located in the suite on the first floor, and the accommodation is on this floor, the third floor and the fourth floor, with four well-appointed bedrooms and three modern bathrooms. This is a castle that has been made-over to a luxury standard with modern comforts whilst retaining the essence of yesteryear and ancient history. All of which makes this is an ideal base to discover Edinburgh and the Lothian and Borders area, and a perfect retreat to take the time to enjoy the charm of this wonderful castle.
