Description

For the family or group who are looking to enjoy walking or mountain biking in some of the best scenery in Scotland then this loch-side retreat is ideal

This is a fabulous farmhouse that has been completely renovated and updated, which is situated in the Cairngorm National Park overlooking the Spey reservoir and Glen Markie beyond. Set in its own enclosed grounds in a Highland estate setting, it is common to see the red deer down by the road and in the summer months the Osprey fishing on the loch in front of the house.

Formerly a farmhouse with a separate barn next door, the barn section now adjoins the farmhouse and houses a bedroom with an en-suite shower, and a superb modern open-plan kitchen/dining room, which has become the hub of the house. In the farmhouse section is the traditional sitting room and the other bedrooms and shower rooms.

Sherrabeg caters well for anyone with limited mobility. Wheelchair users will find it easy to move around the house and will have access to the downstairs en-suite bedroom.   This is a great base for a holiday in the Badenoch and Strathspey area, which is a popular holiday destination for so many.

  • Reception Rooms
In the main section of the farmhouse, as a traditional front room, you will find the comfortable sitting room, with a modern sofa and two arm-chairs around the wood-burning stove with a TV.  This room seats 6 comfortably and is popular with the children.  However, the kitchen tends to be the main congregating area for adults with enough seating around the table and a large comfortable 3 seater sofa against the end wall.

Additional storage for boots and jackets is available at the entrance hall or alternatively in the utility room to the rear. A bike store to the side is available for mountain bike storage.

    Kitchen & Dining
The hub of the house is located in the open-plan kitchen dining area, which is large functional well designed space. It tends to be the main congregating area with enough seating around the table and a large comfortable 3 seater sofa against the end wall.

The kitchen has a range master cooker which is ideal for cooking for the number required. With under-floor heating, this a warm room to host breakfast, lunch and dinner at the dining table that is perfect for seating up to 10 adults. There is access to the patio area for al fresco dining in the summer months. An additional utility room is located to the rear of the house.

  • Accommodation is provided for a group of 10 adults in 4 bedrooms with 1 bathroom and 3 shower rooms, as follows:

    • 1 Double Bedroom/s With Private Bathroom
    • 1 Bunk Room With 2 Sets Of Bunk Beds With Shared Bathroom
    • 1 Double Or Twin Bedroom/s With Ensuite Shower Room
    • 1 Double Bedroom With Private Shower Room
    Ground Floor

    Room 1, bedroom with zip-and-link bed, with en-suite shower room with shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin;

Room 2, bedroom with king size double bed; shower room, with wet room style shower, w.c and wash hand basin.

    First floor

    Room 3, double room with king size double bed;

Room 4, family room, with two bunk beds; bathroom, with bath, separate shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin; shower room, with shower cabinet, w.c and wash hand basin.

  • Accessed off a quiet road, part of the old military road built by General Wade, the short drive takes you directly to the house which is set in half an acre of enclosed grounds. Mainly set out in grass, with a combination of lawn and meadow, surrounded by fields, woodlands and the loch itself.  Garden furniture is available in the summer months.

There are some wonderful walks around the estate and surrounding area.  We would be grateful if dogs could be kept under control, as there are wild birds and livestock around.  The only area we would ask you not to walk in is the fields because of livestock and to be aware that at certain times of year deer control is undertaken.

Located 4 miles from the village of Laggan in which you'll find a delightful village store, coffee shop and gallery.  For larger supplies the nearest supermarket can be found in Newtonmore, which is 12 miles away. Here there is a selection of shops, restaurants and pubs.

This Strathspey area is known for the large choice of activities with the nearest being the renowned Wolftrax mountain biking course. Golf courses are available at Newtonmore and Kingussie. Fishing is available on the Spey. For walkers the famous Corrieyairack Pass is a must. Dalwhinnie Distillery is an option for a trip.

    ACCESSIBILITY
In winter months the approach road from Laggan is prone to ice and snow.

Everything was magical: The first approach (the sun on the lough), the welcome from Ishbel (who went out of her way throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable); the huge kitchen/diner/living room - that makes such a great hub, the amazing views from every window, the comfortable beds, the wilderness (dear, hares, pheasants everywhere). As well as being superbly located, equipped and laid out, this house is a rare wheelchair-friendly find that made our family get-together just perfect.

We were so pleased to hear you had a great time. Ishbel goes out of her way to welcome guests and will be delighted to hear you felt you'd been given the five-star treatment!

Responsive, helpful - and a genuine personal touch.

Thank you, we look forward to helping with your next booking.

The house is wonderfully located next to the loch on the river Spey and approached along a glorious single track road. The property is very well equipped and the kitchen diner provides the ideal focal point for large family group or friends get together. Comfortable bedrooms and shower facilities abound. Snug with wood burner provides a cosy place to retreat. All bedding was to highest standard a suggestion would be to provide a pillow option as pillows were to thick or to good for a couple if our group.

We're thrilled you loved your holiday. It's Visit Scotland rated 4 stars which I know the housekeeper works hard to maintain. Thanks for the feedback.

A seamless booking process with timely communication throughout and excellent instructions.

Thanks for your feedback and we're glad you found our booking service easy to use

Very happy with the property - gorgeous location, well equipped, spotlessly clean, etc.
My only gripe is with the slightly aggressive notes (plural) left about cleaning the property on departure. I always leave a rental property in an acceptable condition, but don't expect to be told that I have to empty all bins, strip the beds, sweep the floors and vacuum the carpets.

It’s great to hear you found the house clean and well equipped, departure guidance is given to ensure a smooth handover, but thanks for your comments we will pass these onto the owner, look forward to welcoming you back to Scotts in the future.

Everything was very smooth.

Thank you for your review, I’m glad you found the process smooth.

We had a wonderful two weeks stay at the property, which is in a stunning and very peaceful location. It is beautifully presented with generous, comfortable living spaces and large bedrooms. For dogs, the garden is secure and plenty big enough. It's also ideal for anyone with limited mobility as one of our party – who is in a wheelchair – found it easy to move around the house and had access to the downstairs en-suite bedroom. Booking with Scotts Castle Holidays was straightforward and ‘Nai’ was helpful when we had any questions. We would definitely recommend this holiday property in The Highlands.

Great that you loved the house – it really is a fab place catering for all groups, we are glad to hear your four legged friends had a good time as well. We thank you for your recommendations and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
