Description

Looking out of any of the four front facing bedroom windows you will gaze upon views of a picture postcard scene of a loch with mountains beyond, the very image of Scotland.

In a spectacular setting on a 34,000 acre estate, this is a distinctive granite sporting lodge with its own turret, built in 1995, in the style of a traditional estate lodge which overlooks the loch with wooded hills behind. Presenting traditional styling and décor this lodge sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms, with the choice of 1 double room and 3 twin bedrooms. Each has a unique style, decorated with tartans and traditional woodwork.

The spacious ground floor living area of this large holiday home offers a well-equipped country kitchen, a beautiful dining room, and the drawing room with open fires. Kennelling is available for 2 dogs, and there is sufficient parking to the rear.

This is a luxurious holiday house that you can come back to after a long day on the road sightseeing, sit back and relax with drink in hand, and enjoy the best view of the day! With full central heating and an open fire, no matter the weather, there is always a warm welcome.

  • Reception Rooms
All the reception rooms have amazing front views overlooking Loch Ericht and are inter-connected like a railway carriage. The elegant drawing room with its open fire and comfortable seating is a cosy room, made even better with the fine pictures and antiques. Next door is the sitting room, with a TV, which is the central point of the house with access in 3 different directions. There is also another open fire in this room.  Additionally there is a lovely entrance hall, downstairs w.c. and drying room (with a full size electric drying cabinet), so any clothes can dry off quickly after a wet day out.

    Kitchen & Dining
The dining room is beyond the sitting room and also enjoys magnificent views to the front over the loch. Again there are wonderful evocative pictures of Highland scenes whilst you dine in front of the open fire. With a large round table and comfortable padded dining chairs, it is a real pleasure to linger over your meal in comfort and style. Next door is the well equipped kitchen, with large stainless steel cooking range, which is more than ideal for catering for 8 people. There is also a small utility room with washer/dryer.

    Property Manager notes
The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and of good quality furnishings, but suffering from slight wear & tear specifically the mosaic tiled floor, but nothing that will detract from an overall excellent guest experience.

  • The lodge is to be found on a private estate overlooking Loch Ericht, located 1 mile from Dalwhinnie, and only accessible by a coded gate entry system. The key feature when booking this property for a holiday is proximity to the Loch as well as its remote location. The Lodge has been built just back from the loch with a small area of grass and outdoor furniture available to sit outdoors and enjoy the view.  Access to the shore (pebble) is from the bottom of the garden.

    Walking
This would be a key activity when here for all ages. The estate itself covers 33,000 acres and Loch Ericht (tenth largest freshwater lake in Scotland) is surrounded by a number of Munroe’s, the nearest of which is Ben Alder. You’re welcome to walk anywhere around the Lodge (other than the owners private grounds) and nearer your holiday you can always get in touch with the Estate Office for ideas on where to go. They’ll be best placed to let you know what’s on and can caution you over areas where stalking may be taking place during certain times of the year. Being on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park you’ll find an abundance of walking and bike trails throughout this region.

    Shopping
Your nearest local shop for basic supplies, papers, groceries and fuel would be in Dalwhinnie which is 8 miles away. As well as a village store, Dalwhinnie also has a hotel and distillery with visitor centre and railway. The Dalwhinnie Distillery offer home tasting whisky visits for groups which could be something fun to arrange during a stay here.

A larger supermarket can be found in Newtonmore, which is 12 miles away. Online deliveries will only deliver as far as the Estate Office. The staff are happy to take provisions down to the Lodge and unpack bags for you if arranged and agreed in advance of your stay.

    Fishing
Guests staying in the lodge are welcome to fish on Loch Ericht and Loch Rannoch from the bank (you’re welcome to bring your own boat to launch). Anyone fishing must, by law, carry a permit to do so and terms apply so if you do plan on fishing during your stay please notify the booking team / Estate office in advance. Both lochs have a good stock of wild brown trout.

    Stalking
Stalking red or roe deer is a fascinating way to discover Scotland’s landscape and culture. You will spend time walking through beautiful landscapes – mountains, glens and forests – as you go in search of the deer. The red deer on the estate are carefully managed on a sustainable basis producing a healthy quality food in balance with the local environment. Deer welfare, conservation and environmental enhancement are important initiatives for the estate. You will spend time with one of the estate stalkers on the hill. The tradition of deer stalking will offer you an insight of Scottish culture which many other visitors will never experience. Deer stalking is the term we use in Scotland for hunting and shooting deer. It is an important part of modern day land management. It also contributes to the local economy; helps protect many native plants and species and maintain a healthy and strong population of red deer. Deer stalking is also a traditional activity in Scotland, a link to the traditional culture of the Highlands. Please also discuss stalking the deer with your binoculars or camera.

Red Stag season 1st July to 20th October
Roe bucks 1st April to 20th October and does 21st October to 31st March
During the season Stalking red deer is available by arrangement

    Golf
You’re never too far from a golf course in Scotland. If you fancied getting your clubs out the nearest to this property would be Newtonmore, Kingussie, Blair Atholl (9 hole), Aberfeldy or Pitlochry.

    TOP 3 THINGS WE LOVE

    - Its Interior Design, this place has been built with quality in mind.

    - Its loch views; all rooms have great views of the water which have a calming influence we think

    - Its Deluxe Electric Drying Cupboard; warm coats & boots every day. That means no excuse not to go out walking!

A larger supermarket can be found in Newtonmore, which is 12 miles away. There is also a railway station at Dalwhinnie, which forms part of the Perth-Inverness main link. For golfers there are golf courses at Newtonmore and Kingussie. Families can be entertained at the Kincraig Wildlife Park. Aviemore offers many activities with the Cairngorm ski centre as the highlight

  • GROUP TYPES

On the one hand a little kind of hunting lodge castle thing which was great, on the other hand it requires some more care and updating.

Further to our conversation, I've since spoken with the Estate Manager and fed back your feedback on the kitchen and other areas you felt could be improved from good to great with a little thought and additional housekeeping. It was nice to hear you felt the ambiance overall was excellent and that you'd like to return again next year on the basis some of the areas identified were addressed.  Thanks for sparing the time to talk to me about your experience and I'm delighted you had a wonderful time and loved the property.

Booking process was o.k., but not (yet) one click buying. Service was very good.

Fabulous place, cosy and comfy, delighted with the Christmas tree especially for us even though we didn't arrive till the 29th. Fire a bit smokey but wind probably to blame, perfect spot for a family gathering with us based in Cumbria and Scotland, we hope to return one day!

Thanks for the excellent rating, glad you had a nice time!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review for this amazing venue. Glad you found the lodge cosy and comfortable, we're sure the Christmas tree added to the NY festivities! We have contacted the owner to check the fire as a matter of course and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

The lodge is located at a very beautiful, quiet and unique location within less than 100 metres of the shore of Loch Ericht. It is isolated, with no nearby houses and away from the village of Dalwhinnie and only accessible by a secured gravel road, meaning there is very little traffic. From within you have a superb view on the Loch and adjoining mountains.

It is luxuriously and stylishly decorated and upon our arrival we were greeted by the smell of freshly chopped wood in the fireplace - which you can use if you want, there are detailed operating instructions. The heating had already been turned on (slightly as it wasn't that cold in the summer), making us feel instantly welcome. The lodge was very clean as well, we were able to walk barefooted to enjoy the feel of the authentic wooden floor and carpets without getting dirty feet :) The rooms and especially the bathrooms were spacious (very large showers) and comfortable.

Staying here was one of our highlights of our visit to the Highlands of Scotland. Hearthily recommended!

Having visited this delightful lodge myself I couldn't agree with you more, it's very well appointed and beautifully furnished for group holidays. You couldn't get closer to Loch Ericht if you tried!

So pleased you enjoyed your holiday and the surroundings, it sounds like you had a welcoming arrival and found the lodge very well equipped.

We'd love to help with future holidays, don't forget to claim your loyalty discount next time!

Great property, very isolated - exactly what we looked for. The access to the property was secured and easy. However, we were a bit disappointed by the double beds - there was only 1 and it was quite small. As a couple we had only 1 choice, and it was also the only room where there was a leek during the heavy rain on Friday and it started to get inside the room.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found our booking process quick and easy. The only fee we charge on top of the advertised rental is a £20 booking fee for our service, so were a little unsure which extra fee’s you are referring too, but please let us know if you have any further information so we may investigate.

Great that you liked the property and the location was what you had hoped for! The lodge was booked as advertised on our website, but by all means if you require different bedroom configurations next time, just let us know and we could always help with the search for you. Sorry to hear about the leak in the bedroom, we hope the estate office being first point of contact for any issues during your stay, were able to help resolve this quickly for you.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us again in the future, we would be happy to help.

The reservation was easy and fast. The communication with the customer support team was also easy. However, the % of the fees we had to pay was too high. At the end the real price of the house was about 10-15% higher than we expected.
