The small but picturesque town of Forres, in Moray, is a tranquil location to enjoy Scottish Highland life. With the River Fondhorn nearby, and the Burn of Mosset running through the town, there is plenty of beautiful walking available. The nearby 16th Century Brodie Castle is a treasure trove of antiquities and architecture, and has an impressive adventure playground for the kids! The town has two distilleries; Benromach is a working site with a visitor centre, and although Dallas Dhu no longer distills, Historic Scotland has preserved the site in perfect working order, for visitors to explore. Forres has a 18 hole golf course set in beautiful parkland, and is home to Sueno’s Stone, a 20 foot pictish carved monument encased behind glass, commemorating the historic Norse war. Legend has it this is also where Shakespeare’s Macbeth met the witches!
