Description

Voted one of the ten best castles in Britain by The Independent on Sunday, you won't want to miss the chance to stay at this unique destination.

In the centre of Banffshire, known for its Whisky Distilleries, Fishing, Castles and some of the most outstanding coastline in the world, you will find this charming castle located in 40 acres of grounds and gardens.

The interior of the 16th Century Castle is sympathetically furnished with an eclectic collection of art and antiques throughout. The previous Laird was an Art Dealer and his collection is very much part of what makes the Castle so special. The house is still the main family home, who move to a service wing when guests are staying and are very happy to personally talk through the history of the Castle with anyone who may be interested.

There are plenty of reception rooms for guests to escape to, including the impressive Great Hall, with its distinctive Painted Ceiling, the Drawing Room, the Billiards Room, the Chapel and the Vaulted Dining Room.

There is an indoor endless pool (unheated) for swimming and an external Pavilion that can be used for games on a wet day or for meetings, events or parties to the castle occupancy only.

**This property is now up for sale and will only be accepting booking two months in advance on a rolling week by week basis**

  • Please note
  • The property is entered via a large entrance to the left of which is the kitchen and to the right a large Billiards room with wood burning fire.  The Great Hall is the central reception room with an open fire, paneling, medieval painted ceiling and three window seats looking out to the front Lawns and swimming pool. This is also where you'll find the grand piano and there is enough room to dance a Scottish reel. There are sofas and comfy chairs arranged around the fire.

The Drawing Room gets plenty of morning light through its Georgian windows, it also has a wood burning fire to keep to you warm in the evenings if you want to relax in front of the TV or enjoy some of the board games on offer.

The Library has an extensive collection of Art History Books. It’s a lovely spot for quiet contemplation and a favourite with guests who like somewhere quiet and comfortable to enjoy a bit of holiday reading.

On the ground floor there's a large dining room (seating 14/16), a smaller vaulted dining room (seating 6/8) and a Chapel. You will also find a fully equipped shower room on this level.  There is also a drying room and a cloakroom/boot room.

    Kitchen & Dining

You’ll find the kitchen well equipped with a commercial electric hob and oven, dishwasher, freestanding freezer with ice maker, commercial fridge, coffee maker, microwave, air fryer and bread maker.

    Perfect for Parties/Ceilidhs

This property also boasts a ‘Pavilion’ which is a relatively large, heated external games room across the North Lawns.  It can be used for bigger parties, ceilidhs, ping pong and Yoga.  Guests are welcome to use this room for parties up to the maximum occupancy advertised.  If you wish to invite additional day/evening guests to join in the celebrations it’s important you disclose this prior to confirming your booking as permission will need to be sought from the owner which may not always be given depending on the circumstances and should permission be given additional fees/terms may also apply.

The Pavilion, a heated external games room is across the North Lawns and is perfect for all sorts of celebrations and if you choose to bring in caterers they prefer it too as they have more space to work. The owners do not supply linen, formal dining sets etc. but your caterers can deal with all of this.  It can be used for bigger parties, ceilidhs, ping pong and Yoga.

The gardens are very sheltered and there is plenty of outdoor seating. Croquet and Badminton sets are available.

The castle is excellent. Very spacious for the amount of people staying there. Lots of rooms to explore including quirky ones.
The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and the addition of the amazing pavillion in the grounds is perfect for bad weather days.
The castle is well placed for trips to the coast and surrounding area.
The laird was very helpful too.

I'm sure future guests will find your feedback really helpful when deciding if this is the place for their next family holiday. Thanks for sharing and glad you had a 'five star' holiday!
