Description

Also known as the Gateway to the Isles, the seaside town of Oban is a popular destination for those wanting to explore Scotland’s West Coast.  This luxury holiday home was built in an era when wealthy merchants showed off their status by building homes in a similar design, albeit on a smaller scale, to those of the nobles. 

The property enjoys fabulous sea-views, set back on a hill overlooking the town. It’s been built to entertain large house parties with spacious contemporary reception rooms and modern bedrooms. With a hot tub, large entertainment area and firepit outside, it makes a fantastic venue for a group holiday or celebration.  

Kate, the owner, wants you to feel like you're having a luxurious experience in Oban and has made sure she's created a relaxing, ambient environment in which guests can truly wind-down and enjoy some of the best Scotland has to offer. 

Weekends and mid-week breaks are welcome as well as longer lets. Kate welcomes all groups looking for five star accommodation in Oban for short breaks mid-week.  Depending on the season lower mid-week rates apply so please don't hesitate to enquire.

  • The entrance leads into a large hall, off which are two reception rooms, the dining room, kitchen and butlers pantry. The large reception rooms overlook the Firth of Lorn making the most of the views with (almost) floor to ceiling sash windows. The cinema room has an 86 inch Smart TV with surround sound and a bluetooth speaker which can be used independently for music.  Close the window shutters to get the darkened cinema feel.

    In addition there’s a w.c. and ground floor kingsize bedroom in an area that used to be the servants lounge off the back of the kitchen. This is the only bedroom in the house with a TV and DVD player in it.  It would make use of the downstairs w.c. and share the family bathroom on the half landing.  

    What used to be the old 'carriage house' has been turned into a games room with snooker table and table tennis table .  The snooker table can easily be converted into a roulette or games table with the use of a top that sits against a wall.  This room retains its yesteryear charm with its large oak rafters and is decked with comfortable sofas, beer fridge and a bluetooth speaker (please note the Carriage House is unheated).  

    The kitchen is large and well equipped with all the kit required to cater for large house parties.  There's a large farmhouse table comfortably seating 8 which which works well for casual breakfasts/feeding children if they eat earlier. 

    The dining room seats 24 comfortably. It’s set up with 2 large tables of 12 each but they can also be used together as one large table if preferred.

    The addition of a Butler’s Pantry between the kitchen and dining room is also a useful touch.  The butlers pantry has a wine fridge and makes a perfect cocktail station! 


  • There are 11 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms/shower rooms.  A selection of Ila spa organic products are provided in all bathrooms (handwash, shampoo, conditioner and showergel as well as bathsoak for rooms with baths).  There are 3 hairdryers available for use, located in the bedrooms. 

    All zip & links are by default left as twins unless a request is made in advance to have them turned to super kings.

  • The property is enclosed in half an acre of garden, so there's lots of space outside.  There are three seating areas and plenty of lawn space. The seating areas a large patio area with fire pit on the right as you enter the gates; a large area immediately in front of the house and a further area on the other side of the house with the outdoor sofas, hot tub and lawned area (perfect for sunbathing). 

    The paved entertainment area on a terraced garden overlooking the Firth of Lorn which in turn overlooks the Islands of Mull, Kerrera and Lismore. A 9 seater outdoor 'sunbrella' sofa provides a fabulous vantage point to enjoy watching boats traversing the sea inlet in comfort.

    A 7 seater large hot tub and firepit are also fun additions, particularly in good weather.  There are 3 paved entertainment areas in total, one on each side of the house and one at the front, which means no matter the time of day you'll always be able to catch the sun.  There’s private gated parking available for 6 cars within the grounds.  

    It's a 5 minute walk into town where you'll find a growing selection of good quality restaurants, pubs and shops.  There's a swimming pool and leisure centre also within a 5 minute walk of the house.  A walk to the train station is 10 minutes.  

    Oban makes a great touring base for travel to the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides. By train, Scotrail travels straight into Oban, from which point it’s a few minutes cab ride to the property. By car, the journey from Glasgow airport is approx 2 hours 15 minutes (3 hours by train) along a very scenic part of Scotland including Loch Lomond and the Trossochs National Park.  There are plenty of outdoor activity providers and adventure companies operating in the local area who can organise specific activities. 

    Top 3 Things We Love

    - its location; being able to walk into Oban means you've got access to shops, pubs and restaurants not to mention the ability to Island Hop using the ferry services

    - its outdoor entertainment space; who doesn't like the idea of sitting outside on comfortable furniture or in a warm bubbling hot tub looking across to the Isle of Skye

    - its modernity; Kate wants you to feel like you're staying in a boutique hotel and has made sure she's filled it with the comfort and ambience to match


  • GROUP TYPES
    The owner very much welcomes mixed family groups only. Due to prior bad experience the owner will not accept bookings for the following group types:

    • all male groups whose sole purpose for the holiday is to celebrate a ‘stag’ style get together/party.
    • All male/female or mixed groups/couples without children where the average age falls under 25 years old

    Any booking made where the purpose of the holiday is later found to fall into either category, will be cancelled without notice, or refund. If you are unsure, please contact the office for details before confirming your booking.

    Good Housekeeping Deposit

    The owner will collect from you and return to you a £750 security bond a few days prior to your arrival.  She will liaise with you herself over payment arrangements and refund, which will be released shortly after your stay following a satisfactory departure. For more information regarding the payment and refund of the security bond please contact the owner directly, her details of which will have been provided with your balance of booking confirmation.

We stayed at the house for my husbands 60th birthday in October 2019 with family and friends. From the outset I was very impressed as was all the people I had invited. The house is amazing, bedrooms stunning, living areas fantastic, hot tub was a hit!!

Everything you could ever want and need for a fabulous weekend.

We stayed with a group of 12 adults, and 6 children and house was perfect! Huge house, very nicely redone, and the location was the best. Gorgeous views of the bay, and a moments walk into the town. Hope to be back!

We could not have been happier with our stay in this gorgeous and elegantly furnished mansion, located directly in the heart of beautiful Oban, with territorial views of the entire town and harbor below.
From its private car park to its hot tub, playroom, terrace, entertainment systems and chef’s kitchen, The house provided phenomenal value and comfort. Every one of the many rooms was elegantly decorated in modern, uncluttered furnishings. This place was a lucky find for us, and will be at the top of our list of best places to stay, for our inevitable return to Scotland.

The house is, in a single word, spectacular!
