The Isle of Bute is an attractive and popular destination, easily accessed across the water from the Firth of Clyde. Showcasing a varied landscape, with rolling hills, sandy beaches, and heather-clad moorland, the island is popular with walkers, cyclists and is also a great spot for fishing. Rothesay, the main town on the island is an attractive Victorian seaside resort, and can be found on the east of the island. Here the traditional esplanade and beautiful gardens of the town make it a stunning location. The Isle of Bute Discovery Centre contains a wealth of information about the island, and can be found in the beautifully restored iron and glass building in the town. The centre is complete with multi-media exhibitions, introducing you to the best of the island. The spectacular ruins of Rothesay Castle are worth visiting, once occupied by Robert the Bruce and later Cromwell, the ruins hide a rich Scottish history.
