The Swans Nests is an exclusive development of four contemporary and luxurious cottages situated next door to the acclaimed Swan Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Lake Windermere.

Finished to the highest standard the cottages have been developed to offer guests the opportunity to relax with family and friends. Presented with four bedrooms, two with ensuites and a luxurious family bathroom. a great open plan living space incorporating the lounge, dining and kitchen. Large patio windows look out across the grounds to the fells beyond and open on to a large elevated patio.

Guests are welcome to make full use of the facilities on offer at the Spa including gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and indoor swimming pool and guests can dine in the popular The Swan Inn or stylish River Room restaurant.

Accommodation in detail

The front door opens to the hallway with plenty of space for coats and boots before entering the bright and welcoming open plan living space. As soon as you enter your eye will be drawn to the floor to ceiling feature windows that run across the width of the property and allow the light to flood in and offering beautiful views across the grounds and fields to the fells beyond.

Comfortable sofas and armchairs, in beautiful floral patterns, are arranged a cosy log burning stove and large screen TV with Freesat which is complemented by a Sonos sound system. The patio doors open to an elevated terrace patio with dining furniture and an outdoor fire making it just the place to relax on a summers evening. Back in doors, there is a large family dining table, around which, friends and family can gather for breakfast or dinner. The quality fitted kitchen is well equipped with a quality inventory, an electric range cooker with five ring halogen hob and electric double oven. The kitchen also incorporates a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a small utility room is equipped with a washer/drier and microwave.

Climbing the stairs to the first floor, choose from three of four bedrooms. The first is presented with a king size bed and complemented by a superb ensuite bathroom with double ended bath, walk in shower, basin and WC. The next is also a welcoming king size room with an enuite shower room with shower, basin and WC. The third bedroom on the first floor is presented with 3ft bunk beds, ideal for the kids who will also enjoy the Playstation that has been provided. Please note the owners suggest that this bedroom is suitable only for up to the age of 12 years old. Due to the size of the room and the bunk beds this is not suitable for use by teenagers or adults. The luxurious family bathropom includes a double ended bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC.

The final bedroom is on the second floor which is homely and well-appointed and presented with either a kingsize bed or twin beds, please specify your choice at the time of booking.

In addition to the private patio, guests are welcome to take advantage of the share grounds around the resort that include plenty of space for children to play. The lovely riverside terrace on the bank of the River Leven is a lovely spot to relax over a drink or afternoon tea. There are two dining options available to guests; the popular Swan Inn serving great food and local ales or alternatively dine in style in the River Room restaurant. The popular Spa offers a great range of luxury ESPA treatments, pristine pedicures and marvellous manicures. Guests are also welcome to use the indoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi or to take advantage of the well-equipped, air conditioned gym. Private parking is available for one car and additional parking is available within the grounds of the resort.


The southern end of Lake Windermere is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, being much quieter than the busier Lake District holiday destinations further up the lake. However, you're very close to the hamlet of Lakeside and Lakeside Pier, where the famous Lake Windermere steamers depart regularly to Bowness and Ambleside - a wonderful way to explore these areas without driving.

There are some lovely walks in the area, such as Wainwright's Finsthwaite Heights route from Newby Bridge. The route approaches High Dam - a picturesque tarn that you might just have to yourselves on quieter days. You'll also find several Lake District family attractions within easy reach. Also at Lakeside is the Lakes Aquarium - a fresh water aquarium displaying local wildlife. The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway offers an opportunity to take a short trip on a restored traditional steam train. 

Lake District historic sites such as Holker Hall and Gardens, Cartmel Priory, Stott Park Bobbin Mill, Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are all within easy reach by car, with no need to navigate through busy tourist areas.

To your north west, via picturesque country lanes, you'll approach Esthwaite Water and the landscapes that famously inspired the children's author Beatrix Potter. Her former home can be visited at Hill Top, in the small village of Near Sawrey (also home to the fantastic Tower Bank Arms). Only a mile or so further, and you'll reach Hawkshead village - a wonderful place to while away a day, exploring quaint cobbled streets and a blissfully car-free village centre.
