Thanckes House, near Looe

Thanckes House is an exclusive, luxury holiday home set in a spectacular location overlooking the sea at Portwrinkle.It has magnificent sea views, its own indoor heated swimming pool and easy access to the beach and golf course which make it a great choice for an extended family or large party of friends. A short stroll leads to the beach and this sheltered sandy cove is perfect for sandcastle builders and beach cricketers. At low tide there are excellent rock pools in which children of all ages can fish for crabs and other marine life. For walkers the South Coast Path passes Portwrinkle on its way west to Looe and east to Cremyll from where you can take a ferry to the city of Plymouth for a day out in the city. Whitsand Bay Hotel is a 5 minute walk away and guests may wish to take advantage of the special discounted rates which apply for golf and leisure facilities (including swimming pool and sauna). The main local fishing town of Looe with its many shops, bars, restaurants and cafes is a 20 minute drive away and, from the working harbour, glass bottom boat trips, sea excursions and speed boat rides can all be booked. The picturesque village of Polperro is a further five minutes on from Looe. Built to take full advantage of its unique location, most of the rooms at Thanckes House have panoramic sea views and some have a balcony or patio doors opening onto the terrace. The property has 5 spacious double bedroom (2 en-suite) and plenty of downstairs comfortable living space for large groups. The indoor heated swimming pool is a real luxury. Outside a wide terrace with a barbecue has wonderful views; a perfect setting for a sunset cocktail or two.

Accommodation: Ground Floor: Lounge/Diner with TV and table and chairs for 10. Kitchen with electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Bedroom 1 with Double (may be unlinked into two twin beds) and ensuite with shower, WC and basin. Swimming Pool. First Floor: Bedroom 2 with Double (may be unlinked into two twin beds) with ensuite with bath, WC and basin. Bedroom 3 Double with ensuite shower and basin. Bedroom 4 with Double (may be unlinked into two twin beds) Bedroom 5 with Double (may be unlinked into two twin beds). These two bedrooms share a bathroom with bath, shower, WC and basin.

Facilities and Services: Linen and towels. Central heating. WiFi. No Smoking. Pets welcome at £35 per pet per week. Cots and highchairs can be provided upon request. Plenty of on-site parking.The property is accessed by a very steep drive. Short breaks available out of season. Arr/Dep for weekly bookings is Friday. Please note: Accommodation is available from 4pm on your arrival date and should be vacated by 10.30am on day of departure. The nearby hotel offer concessionary rates for golf and leisure and these MUST be arranged on day of arrival at the hotel reception.

Looe is a picture perfect coastal town; divided by the river East Looe has a traditional fishing harbour and a wide variety of shops, cafes and a large sandy beach. West Looe also has many restaurants to choose from, and visitors can walk right up to the Hannafore Point which has lovely views of the sea and Looe Island.

Less than 5 miles away is Polperro, another beautiful and unspoilt fishing village which has a Heritage Centre of Smuggling & Fishing and several traditional pubs along the waterfront. From both these harbours there are regular fishing trips available out to sea and boat trips across to Looe Island which is a beautiful nature reserve. This is a haven for local wildlife and there are organised guided walks where visitors can spot seals and seabirds.

This is a perfect location for walks along the South Coast, and with easy reach of Looe are the sandy beaches of Plaidy & Millendreath. The Looe golf club just outside of the town has stunning panoramic views of the coastline. Just on the sea front of East Looe is the towns Guildhall Museum which displays much of the ports ancient smuggling and boat building history.

A fantastic day out is the Monkey Sanctuary in St Martins, as well as being a home to rescued monkeys the centre also has a bat and wildlife room and gardens. The Looe Valley railway is a lovely scenic line which follows along the East Looe River.


Cornwall is the most western part of the South West of England and is a very popular holiday destination with its array of golden sand beaches and dramatic cliff top scenery. Sample the freshest gourmet offerings from the abundance of local produce or simply find a quiet spot and unwind with a Cornish clotted cream ice-cream! Wherever you choose to hang up your boots, you will never be far from the sea.

South West

This region is mostly rural so is perfect to escape the everyday hustle and bustle, whether relaxing with the family by the seaside or exploring the wild moors and rugged coastline. The area boasts hundreds of beautiful sandy bays to choose from and fantastic surfing opportunities. The historic cities of Exeter, Bath and Gloucester are definitely worth a visit, and with transport links all the way down to Penzance even the famous Lands End and remote Isles of Scilly can be reached.
