This market town lies on the River Great Stour, and is in a great central location for day trips to the coast or the larger towns of Maidstone and Canterbury. The County Square Shopping Centre has over 50 stores plus regular events such as food fairs and fashion shows. The Borough Museum has fascinating exhibits of the towns railway and wartime history.
The nearby Godinton House has 12 acres of formal gardens to explore; within the house are guided tours and refreshments available in the old Billiard Room. On open days the Willesborough Windmill is a fun day out where children can make their own flour. Ashford is home to the Green Corridor, a nature reserve made up of riverside parks and recreation grounds. Easily accessed from the town and a chance to spot the local wildlife or have a picnic. Plenty of local walking trails to choose from such as the North Downs Way, Pilgrims Way and the Greensand Way. Wye National Nature reserve has great views out across Kent, and marked paths across the downs.
The Rare Breeds Centre at Highlands Farm is worth a visit, perfect for animal lovers and families. There are interactive animal experiences; children’s play areas, birds of prey and adventure trails in the gardens and woodland. The Pig Racing is one the centres most popular events.
