Accommodation in detail

The road narrows as it winds its way through the Kentmere Valley and as you spy the village a small lane leads to the cottage. The gate opens to a pretty cottage garden and as you open the front door you step into the original farmhouse dating back over 300 years. The first room you enter is the cosy snug with its beautiful Lakeland slate flagged floor, historic beams and imposing feature fire place.

Step from the snug down to the impressive, double height lounge, with beautiful floor to ceiling picture windows offering views across the valley and glimpses of the Kentmere Tarn. Comfortable sofas offer a choice of places to relax, chat or read or alternatively to watch TV in front of the Clearview log burning stove. A spiral staircase leads from here up to the reading area on mezzanine level with glass balustrades.

Back downstairs, the farmhouse kitchen is the real heart of the home and in the ancient part of the house the historic beams and pretty windows blend seamlessly with the modern, well equipped kitchen with large electric range cooker with electric double oven and five ring hob, American style fridge freezer, dishwasher and breakfast table. From here step forward in time into the new, architect designed glass conservatory that host the large family dining table and here, in front of the cosy log burner friends and families will gather over many a meal to relax, socialise and celebrate.

The winding farmhouse staircase leads to the first four of the bedrooms. All the bedrooms in this section of the house include beautiful original wooden floorboards and oak beams and pretty cottage windows frame the views to the surrounding countryside. Firstly a king size double with ensuite bathroom with feature bath, large shower basin and WC, Also in this old section of thehouse are a pretty twin room and characterful small room with 4'6? double bed. These two rooms are complemented by a smart shower room with walk-in shower basin and WC.

Follow the historic landing and across the mezzanine to discover the master bedroom with super king bed, walk-in wardrobe and large ensuite bathroom with roll top feature bath, large shower, basin and WC. Across the mezannine area is a delightful super king size double with its own bathroom just across the landing with a large walk-in shower, bath, basin and wc.

The sixth and final bedroom is actually our favourite. Step out from the dining room and across the path and up a few steps into the old outhouse and you will discover an impressive luxury bedroom suite. The bedroom offers a welcoming super kingsize bed and pretty picture windows open with a glass infinity balustrade to create a Juliet balcony allowing you to lie in bed and enjoy the beautiful scenery beyond. The spacious, contemporary ensuite bathroom incorporates a luxurious walk in shower, basin and WC.

To the rear of the house there is a large lawned area that backs on to the neighbouring fields and woods, that are a haven for wildlife and a large patio with outdoor dining furniture allow guests to enjoy alfresco dinning on a summer evening. To the front to the cottage there is pretty cottage garden and a smaller patio (just the spot for a morning coffee or a glass of Pimms).

LocationCumbria & The Lake District

The rural county of Cumbria is one of the most attractive in England. It contains the whole of the area known as the Lake District, as well as the northern part of the Pennines mountain range and, somewhat counter-intuitively, a part of the Yorkshire Dales.

The county is replete with attractions for the visitor, its historic heritage ranging from houses and gardens to stone circles and activities ranging from walking and climbing to watersports and fishing. Cumbria's lakes, valleys and fells can loosely be broken down into eight areas.

The North Lakes are the most popular with the serious outdoor enthusiast and the South Lakes draw most of the holidaymakers. The Western Lakes are less busy but still hold some varied attractions and appeal to the walkers as well as families and groups. They are home to England's tallest mountain, known as Scafell Pike.

East Lakes has its quota of mountains too, including the well-known Helvellyn, and is a fairly quiet area. Visit the Eden Valley and North Pennine area for wilderness, castles and rural villages, or perhaps consider North and South Cumbria. In the former we find Hadrian's Wall and the city of Carlisle. In the latter, coastal resorts and the biggest town, Kendal. Finally, the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful part of Cumbria with country pubs, easy walking, and a thriving arts scene.
