With contemporary works of art and fascinating sculptures, carvings and wall paintings – it certainly has its own story to tell – of heaven and of hell! But the castle itself is just heaven!

This beautifully restored medieval castle in a spectacular rural setting offers unique accommodation, with contemporary artwork and sculptures. Rebuilt from a ruin and restored to its former glory in 1996, it is now a stunning holiday venue, ideal as a base for exploring the kingdom of Fife.

Inside, the castle spans across four floors, including three towers, with two separate turnpike staircases, as well as a minstrel’s gallery overlooking the main Great Hall. The kitchen, complete with Aga, is ideal for preparing medieval style feasts which can be enjoyed in the Great Hall, which is the large space that houses both the dining area and the main living space. Whilst there is also a separate sitting room with TV, up on the top floor is a large open space that is the gallery room, which is ideal for hosting receptions or parties. The accommodation is situated across the upper floors, with the master bedroom housing four poster beds, with one of the walls adorned with painted heraldic scenes. The grounds consist of a herb garden, orchard and open area, open garage, and walled viewing tower, with parking by the castle for about 8 cars. This is a unique fortified tower house which has been lovingly restored in an authentic and contemporary manner and is ideal for family holidays, family occasions and for golfers.

WHAT TO DO IN THE AREA

Being so close to St Andrews, means that the home of golf is going to be a big draw. Whilst this university town has many other delights, including great shops and the cathedral, inevitably Swilken Bridge and the “Old Course” will be the main attraction. With as many as 100 golf courses, including Crail, Elie and Leven, only 1 hour from the castle, then this is truly a golfer’s paradise. For families, St Andrews has an excellent beach, with a Deer Centre at Auchtermuchty and further afield, Deep Sea World, Scotland’s national aquarium. Horse riding and clay-pigeon shooting can be arranged locally. For those travelling to and from Europe, the Rosysth Ferry is in Fife and very convenient. Trips to Perth and Dundee, for further culture and shopping could be good for your group. Or taking the train locally and travelling into Edinburgh for the day, crossing there and back over the world famous Forth Rail Bridge.
