Description

With the looks of a French chateau, this large classically elegant south facing country house, built in the 1800’s, on the site of a medieval castle, is situated in its own grounds of 1,500 acres. This is a family home with the charm of yesteryear, full of family portraits and antiques, providing excellent accommodation for the larger group.

Accessed by steps, on entering the house is the large entrance hall, which houses the main staircase and is used as the dining hall with a dining table that can seat up 24 adults. The drawing room is an elegant room with open fire, whilst there is a secondary sitting room next door, so that guests can spread out over the house. The large well equipped kitchen with breakfast area, is ideal for preparing feasts of all sizes. Within the basement there is a snooker room and on the first floor there is a large room that can be used for hosting a small wedding or event, and has proved to be very popular with guests. The accommodation is situated on the first and second floors, with a mix of twin and double bedrooms, with a selection of bathrooms, some with feature Victorian roll top baths. The house is only a short drive from Inverness and Nairn, and it is perfect for occasions, weddings and family gatherings alike.

WHAT TO DO IN THE AREA

This Moray Coast area is known as the “Riviera of the North”, due to its particularly mild climate, and is ideal for holidays for all the family. The Moray Firth has a resident population of bottle nose dolphins and boat trips can be organised locally for dolphin watch trips. The town of Nairn is nearby, with its championship golf course, whilst the Castle Stuart golf course is also close. For city life, there is Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, where there is an array of shops, restaurants and nightlife. Why not re-live history at the Culloden visitor centre, or delight at the spectacle of Highland games? Visit Loch Ness, the home of the monster called “Nessie”. The Castle Trail and Whisky Trail are excellent day trips as well.
