One of East Lothian’s main attractions is its miles of coastline, along the south of the Firth of Forth, which golden beaches. However the county is better known for its 22 links golf courses. Edinburgh is within easy reach for day tripping. Along the coast, you will find North Berwick, an attractive seaside resort. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy the offerings of the Scottish Seabird Centre, and boat trips to the nearby islands. The smaller Dunbar sits further along the coast. This pleasant and peaceful town is home to the John Muir Country Park. The town of Musselburgh boasts its own racecourse, and reputedly the oldest golf course in Scotland and in the central town of Haddington is the stately Lennoxlove House, home to an impressive art collection.

Welcome to the sunniest area in Scotland! With the shores of the Firth of Forth to the north, one of East Lothian’s main attractions is its 40 or so miles of coastline, incorporating gloriously sandy beaches. The county is possibly best known however for its links golf courses, of which there are 22 to choose! The city of Edinburgh is in the neighbouring county, and is an easy day trip away, with the attraction of shopping, culture, heritage and of course, Edinburgh Castle. The largest town in the county is Musselburgh, which boasts its own racecourse, and reputedly the oldest golf course in Scotland. The main administrative town however is the county town of Haddington. Nearby is the stately Lennoxlove House, belonging to the Duke of Hamilton and home to an impressive art collection. Along the coast, you will find North Berwick, a seaside resort made fashionable in the 19th Century, and still an attractive place to visit. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy the offerings of the Scottish Seabird Centre, and boat trips are also available from the town out to the nearby islands, home to a great number of sea birds. Walkers may like to investigate the North Berwick Law, a large conical hill rising above the town. The smaller Dunbar also sits on the coast, slightly further east. The town had a tempestuous history, seeing a number of ancient conflicts, but is now a pleasant and peaceful town, home to the John Muir Country Park.
