Berwickshire, located in the south east, offers beautiful countryside and dramatic coastline. Sea fishing is popular and can be found in a number of places along the coast. The most easterly of the borders counties, Berwickshire offers beautiful countryside and dramatic coastline. Sea fishing is popular and can be found in a number of places including Coldingham Bay, boasting a beautiful stretch of sandy beach.

Along the coast is the harbour town of Eyemouth, with a rich fishing and smuggling heritage. The counties larger settlements include Coldstream, sitting on the north banks of the river Tweed (with England to the south) had a turbulent history and is home to a museum, highlighting its involvement in the historical conflict between Scotland and England.

The county is home to a number of historical houses; in the town of Duns you will find the lavish Edwardian country house, Manderston. At Gordon is Mellerstain House and Gardens, one of Scotland’s most exquisite stately homes, and a must see if in the area. Paxton House, near Berwick upon Tweed (but just on the Scottish side of the border) is a classic example of regency living, and has an impressive furniture collection. The fairytale Thirlestane Castle can be found in Lauder.
