The Highlands are rich in Scottish history, and Fort George beside Inverness is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, built following the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite uprisings at Culloden Battle Field. Both these sites now stand as a tribute to the massive political unrest that Scotland endured during the 18th Century.
