Located in the rural Angus countryside, on the banks of the river South Esk, Brechin once enjoyed city status, thanks to its cathedral. Nowadays it’s recognised as a town, although is often still referred to as a city! The cathedral stands next to a unique and interesting 11th Century round tower, one of only two in Scotland of the style.  The town’s main attraction is its fantastic Caledonian Railway. The heritage steam railway runs a seasonal tourist service from the town’s Victorian Terminal up to the Bridge of Dun. The town has a strong Pictish history, and the Pictavia visitor attraction is an interesting exhibition of this heritage. The centre also has an adventure playground and nature trail for the kids! Golf can be found at the attractive parkland 18 hole Brechin Golf Course.
