Ballater is an attractive Victorian village nestled in the countryside of Royal Deeside. Best known for its Royal Connections, it is the nearest village to the Balmoral Estate. Perhaps the most known landmark is the Old Royal Railway Station, where the Royal family alighted every year for their Balmoral Holiday. The beautifully restored Victorian station is worth a visit today. The area is notable for its fantastic landscapes, and nearby the Loch Muick Reserve sits at the foot of the Lochnagar Mountain, and is home to a visitor centre, and many walking routes and wildlife. The Royal Lochnagar Distillery is nearby if you fancy stopping for a dram or two, and for golfers, the Ballater Golf Club is an attractive hillside 18 hole course.
