At the gateway to the Kintyre Peninsula is the small but beautiful town of Tarbert. On the west shores of Loch Fyne the town has a stunning natural harbour, and enjoys fantastic views across the water. The castle ruins are a short walk from the harbour, and a number of other walking routes can be found in the area, including the Kintyre Way, which passes through the town.

The tranquil town of Tarbert is built on the edge of the isthmus linking Kintyre with Knapdale. With Loch Fyne to the east, and West Loch Tarbert to the west, the town is the gateway to the Kintyre peninsula. Set around the attractive natural harbour and marina the town enjoys lovely views across the water, best appreciated from the hill-top ruins of Robert the Bruce’s Castle, located a short walk south of the harbour. Further west the ferry terminal offers important links across Loch Fyne. Tarbert has its own 9 hole course for a spot of leisurely golf, and the Kintyre Way walking route passes through the town. There are a number of other walking routes around the area, taking in the rugged landscapes of the peninsula.
