Ipswich is a thriving town with an exciting waterfront filled with boutique shops and entertainment; it also has a strong maritime past which is celebrated with an annual festival of music, food and nautical themed markets. There are chartered sailing vessels in the harbour for visitors to venture out on to the water. Alton Water is a great centre for windsurfing lessons, rowing and sailing hire.
The New Wolsey Theatre is named after one of the town’s most famous historical figures, and offers a variety of theatre and dance shows. On the main high street is the restored Ancient House, the church of St Mary le Tower is another wonderful medieval building which has been preserved. The Ipswich Museum has a range of natural history exhibits, and models of Ice Age creatures. The Transport Museum is packed with fascinating collections of engineering equipment and restored trams, buses and fire engines.
Snakes & Ladders has an indoor soft play area, there is also a Science Project Discovery centre on site. A short distance from the town centre is the beautiful Christchurch Mansion & Park, the wildlife reserve and gardens are perfect for a stroll. Holywells is another lovely park ideal for walks and bird watching, there is an outdoor playground for children, and marked trails for exploring the grounds. Baylham Farm offers a fun interactive experience with their rare breeds.
