Tyddyn Bwlch, Dolgellau

Tyddyn Bwlch is a beautifully restored, detached stone farmhouse in a secluded, elevated location above the village of Ganllwyd in the Coed y Brenin forest, with wonderful panoramic views of the forested hills and Cadair Idris mountain range. There are mountain biking trails virtually from the door, as well as walks and waterfalls within the immediate vicinity. The historic market town of Dolgellau is 6 miles south, and Trawsfynydd 9 miles to the north.

The farmhouse has been extended and restored to the highest specifications, with slate tiled floors and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, and solid oak flooring upstairs, exposed oak beams in the original part of the house, and a wealth of oak, staircase, cupboards, doors and other fittings hand-crafted by a world-class, award-winning local carpenter! The kitchen diner is light and bright, with white, contemporary fitted units, large range cooker (electric ovens and gas hob) with extractor hood over, integrated fridge and dishwasher, a central island unit with two breakfast bar stools, and a unique dining table and chairs hand-crafted by the same award-winning carpenter. There is an adjacent utility room with washing machine and freezer, and a ground floor shower room. The spacious sitting room is L shaped, with a large woodburning stove in a feature stone fireplace in the main section, and an open fire to the other side. An initial supply of logs is provided. The room is furnished with sofas and has a wall-mounted FreeSat TV with DVD player. The lounge opens into the adjacent conservatory, with cane sofa and armchair and stunning mountain views. WiFi and phone available. Upstairs are three bedrooms. The family bedroom has a king size bed and a single day bed with additional pull-out single, and French windows to a large balcony with lovely views. There is an adjacent shower room. The family bathroom, with lovely views from the slipper bath, is located between the other two bedrooms, a twin and one with a double bed and additional single bed. Outside are enclosed grounds (gates, fencing and stone walling, but not guaranteed dog or sheep-proof!), a grassed area with picnic benches and barbecue, and a large, secure outbuilding for storing bikes. The property is accessed by a 1.75 mile long, rough forestry track.

This is an ideal location for an active holiday, enjoying the great outdoors. The Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre is a short drive from the house, but there are mountain bike trails passing close by. The nearby market town of Dolgellau has a regular Farmers' Market, small theatre, independent retailers, pubs and other eating places. Good walking and off-road cycle routes along the Mawddach Trail from Dolgellau, or around Trawsfynydd Lake. As well as wonderful mountain scenery, South Snowdonia also has a wonderful coastline with several long, sandy beaches and popular seaside towns.

LocationNorth Wales

North Wales showcases some of the UK's most varied landscape, from the snow-capped mountains of Snowdonia to the beaches of the Llyn Peninsula. Indeed, it is one of the only parts of Britain where you can be in the mountains in the morning and at the seaside by the afternoon. The diverse animal life of the region reflects this, with everything from otters to ospreys and seals to dolphins.

Not many places are imbued with such history and heritage, which is reflected throughout the region from cottages to castles! Attractions abound, with zoos and farms, steam railways and activity centres. There are regular events from international cultural festivals and shows to family fun days.

The area also offers a huge range of outdoor activities; walking, cycling, fishing, golf and water-sports to name only a few. In many parts of North Wales the spoken language is Welsh, not English, although people who cannot or will not speak the latter are rare, and signposts and other notices always display their message in both languages.
