Cwm Canol, Abergele

Cwm Canol is a spacious detached farmhouse overlooking beautiful open countryside above the small village of Gwytherin. This is a good central location from which to explore North Wales, with the Snowdonia National Park and the popular village of Betws-y-Coed 10 miles away, and the seaside resorts and sandy beaches of the North Wales coast about 13 miles. The market town of Llanrwst with its cafes, shops and pubs is 8 miles away.

This large farmhouse is ideal for family gatherings or groups of friends. The impressive inglenook fireplace in the dining room has a woodburning stove for those atmospheric winter evenings. The adjoining beamed living room has wooden flooring, comfortable sofas, chairs and another small woodburning stove (initial supply of logs provided), Freeview TV/DVD and WiFi. The light and airy conservatory has stunning views over the rolling green countryside with doors leading out to the raised patio area. This is a great place to sit and relax or enjoy a bite to eat after a day out and about. The ground floor also boasts a separate snug or play room with a small TV, futon and plenty of toys and games. The large porch area, with its tiled floor, is ideal for storing outdoor kit and leads on to the galley style kitchen. This is well equipped with an electric range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge/freezer. On the first floor is the family bath/shower room and four bedrooms; the beamed master bedroom with an en suite shower room, a twin room, bunk room and another small double room. Outside is a lovely raised and fenced slate patio area with garden furniture and a small adjacent grassed area. Guests can also enjoy the owners' 8 acres of fields and woodland. Oil central heating. Bike storage is available.

The local village of Gwytherin has a C16th Inn, serving good food, just one mile away. This whole area is known as the 'Hiraethog', a welsh word meaning 'the hills of longing' and is well known for its unspoilt landscape of moorland and forest. There is walking from the door of Cwm Canol: explore the local trails or, further afield, the mountains of Snowdonia. For cyclists, there are family friendly trails on the coast or at the nearby reservoirs of Llyn Brennig and Llyn Alwen, and also plenty of harder mountain bike trails in the area. The traditional seaside resorts on the coast can provide a wealth of entertainment, relaxing days at the beach, fairground rides, watersports at Colwyn Bay, a visit to historic Conwy Castle or a walk along the impressive seafront at Llandudno. Llanrwst and Betws-y-Coed are popular tourist destinations with plenty of great shops, cafes and restaurants, not forgetting the famous Swallow Falls, one of the most visited waterfalls in Britain!

LocationNorth Wales

North Wales showcases some of the UK's most varied landscape, from the snow-capped mountains of Snowdonia to the beaches of the Llyn Peninsula. Indeed, it is one of the only parts of Britain where you can be in the mountains in the morning and at the seaside by the afternoon. The diverse animal life of the region reflects this, with everything from otters to ospreys and seals to dolphins.

Not many places are imbued with such history and heritage, which is reflected throughout the region from cottages to castles! Attractions abound, with zoos and farms, steam railways and activity centres. There are regular events from international cultural festivals and shows to family fun days.

The area also offers a huge range of outdoor activities; walking, cycling, fishing, golf and water-sports to name only a few. In many parts of North Wales the spoken language is Welsh, not English, although people who cannot or will not speak the latter are rare, and signposts and other notices always display their message in both languages.
