Welcoming Holiday Rental, near Crickhowell (OLDVIBR)

The Property is incredibly picturesque with its Wisteria-clad walls and gloriously situated with stunning views of the mountains on all sides. Originally built in the 1740's, with later additions thought to date from the 1850's, the house exudes character and homely charm. The kitchen together with the drawing room with huge open fire make this a cosy retreat. 8 bedrooms, sleeping a maximum of 12 adults and 2 children makes The Property the ideal spot for a family (or two's) holiday. The gardens are fabulous with numerous terraces from which to enjoy the setting with a glass of wine . Although in a rural location, you'll find the friendly village pub within a few minutes walk and a couple of minutes in the car will see you arrive in either Crickhowell or Abergavenny. With great fishing and walking all on your doorstep, The Property is sure to provide a holiday to remember!

Generous, character accommodation

The Property - "shabby chic" in it's finish, has a large, well-equipped kitchen with a beautiful navy blue Aga at its heart (only in use in the winter). There is also a five ring range cooker with double oven, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge and wooden kitchen table and chairs. The adjoining laundry room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer, from this room there are also steep stone stairs leading to the cellar which is locked off for safety reasons.

The spacious reception hall leads to the dining room, with it's french windows opening onto the lawn. A large dining table provides ample space/ seating for 16 and interestingly also a table football. Also accessed from the reception hall is the cosy sitting room with Sky TV, DVD player and VCR. The third reception room off the hallway is the spacious drawing room with a lovely open fireplace, numerous comfy sofas and chairs and a stereo.

There is also a downstairs cloakroom with shower, toilet and handbasin.

Climb the impressive staircase to the first floor and you'll find 6 bedrooms.

Bedroom 1: The master bedroom has a super king bed and en suite with bath, toilet and handbasin.

Bedrooms 2: Super King Size bedroom with an extra daybed.

Bedroom 3: small double sleigh bed

Bedroom 4: via bedroom 3 with twin beds suitable for children

The family bathroom: Has a bath, shower, toilet and handbasin.

A steep flight of stairs takes you to the second floor with its attic bedrooms - please be aware the doorways in the attic are quite low so might not be suitable for some older people.

Bedroom 7: Double bed and small childs bed (only suitable for young children)

Useful Information

Bedlinen provided - please bring own towels. Electricity, and oil-fired central heating (heating supplement of £100 per week or £50 per weekend between November and February)Please be aware that is an old period property on the side of a hill and the water pressure is probably not as good as you would find in a more urban setting. Open fire with wood supplied (extra is charged for between October and April) Travel cot available. Pets welcome Gardens with furnitureWIFI available Ample parking. Good mobile reception. Please note that a bond of £300 per week or £150 per weekend is payable to the owner on arrival in addition to any fuel supplement as mentioned above.

A child's paradise

It is hard to imagine a more exciting place to stay for children. With its numerous rooms and child-friendly interior, The Property is an incredibly welcoming house. The owners have several children themselves and it shows with table football in the dinning room and play areas through-out the house, even wet and windy days will be fun with fantastic opportunities for hide and seek and the huge dining room table for drawing or crafts.

On a edge of a charming village

The small rural hamlet of Llangenny is just a few hundred metres walk from The Property. The village pub, The Dragons Head is around a two minute walk and is a great example of a small village pub, loved by its locals. George and Karen serve wonderful, home-cooked meals and local ales. The cosy, low-ceilinged interior is typical of pubs in the area with horse brasses on the walls and comfy seating around a huge wood-burning stove - an ideal resting point after a long walk. In the summer the enclosed garden and terrace area is lovely.

Discover Crickhowell

Crickhowell is a thriving market town nestled between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons in one of the most beautiful valleys in the National Park. Visitors staying at The Property are just 3 miles from the heart of the town. Explore Nicholls, the lovely department store with its range of clothes, footwear, stationary, jewellery, gifts, and home products and make sure you visit Webbs - a family run department store established in 1930. Drop into Number Eighteen - one of a number of great local coffee shops and then browse the art gallery and small boutique shops before lunching at the famous Bear Hotel, which dates back to 1432 and has won the 'Best Pub in Britain' award twice.

Fantastic walking straight from the door

With walks in all directions from The Property, visitors will be spoilt for choice. There are a number of circular walks up the Sugar Loaf and there are more gentle strolls to be had by heading down into the village of Llangenny and following the river Grwyney - look out for the Heron that patrols these waters and the Muscovy duck that has made it's home on the river and is fed by staff at The Dragons Head pub.

For even more walks head into Crickhowell and visit the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre. As well as offering a coffee bar and internet access, the helpful staff on the desk are a mine of information. Tell them how energetic you're feeling and how much time you have and they'll help you choose from an enormous number of varied walks from the centre. For a challenging but relatively short walk, Table Mountain at nearly 1500ft provides a spectacular backdrop to the North of the town. At the top you will be rewarded with the remains of a 2500-year-old hill-fort (crug) of Hywel from which Crickhowell takes its name.

Fishing on the Usk

If you would like to fish during your stay, please discuss this with the owners. They can help to arrange fishing on a mile of the River Usk (less than 5 minutes drive) which is great for both Salmon and Trout.

LocationMid Wales

This is the go to place for outdoor enthusiasts to make the most of the fantastic walking, riding & cycling opportunities, especially in the Cambrian Mountains National Park. The Ceredigion Coastal Path features numerous trails to choose from depending on how far you wish to travel. Whether for a full walking holiday or just a stroll along the cliffs to a village pub, this unspoilt route is perfect and has views out across the famous Cardigan Bay which is home to the UKs largest pod of dolphins.

Dotted along the Wales-West England border are lots of lovely market towns, many of which have their own castle. This disputed ground has a large number of Roman and Norman medieval fortresses, today some are only ruins or just the earthen works remain however there are plenty which have restored to their former glory and are open to visitors.

Mid Wales also just touches on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, a popular mountain range for exploring caves, forest activities and other more extreme outdoor sports such as rock climbing and abseiling. A number of historic railways mean other regions of Wales are easily accessible for a day trip, and make for an enjoyable way to travel and take in the sights.
