Kintyre Holiday House, near Tarbert

With breathtaking views across the Sound of Gigha, this is just one of many reasons why this wonderful house and the west coast of Scotland attract so many visitors each year.

This charming country house, built as a dower house in 1872, is set within 5 acres of private grounds with a westerly aspect overlooking the sea. In 2014, it was lovingly restored and refurbished to match the requirements of the modern-day holiday market to sleep up to 10 people. Surrounded by mixed woodland and a farm on one side, it has an open aspect to the front with a Norwegian log cabin which offers all-weather recreation for all the family. With the sitting room and dining room at ground level to the front, and the bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor. A designated external games lodge, with table tennis table and pool table is ideal for both children and adults. Set in a rural location, which is accessed off the main Kintyre coastal road, the grounds consist of woodlands, lawns, and a paddock suitable for children’s games. Sandy beaches are only a few miles away. Please note that weddings can only be for the capacity of the house’s accommodation only. This is a well designed holiday house for family groups wishing to get away and to enjoy the west coast of Scotland.

Reception rooms

Whilst most people will use the rear access as it easy to park the cars and unload, this entrance takes you to the large boot-room area, where all the coats and boots can be stored. The sitting room is the main front room of the house, which enjoys views across the Sound of Gigha. This is a light bright modern looking room with a wood-burning stove and a TV. The seating is very comfortable with sofas and armchairs. Within the main hall with stairs there is a further wood-burning stove and access to the study, which is a small reading or writing room. On the floor above is a TV room, which is ideal for children. However one the most impressive feature of this holiday house is that it offers a Norwegian log cabin at the end of the garden, which houses a games room with pool table and table tennis table, and other rooms with TV and seating. This is the perfect place for adults and children alike.

Kitchen / Dining

The kitchen is to be found to the front of the house, accessed by some steps, where a lot of light comes into this room and there is under-floor heating. It has been upgraded and modified in 2013 and is a good size kitchen to feed up to 10 people. There is a substantial electric cooking range, with double ovens, grill and 6-ring hobs, which can cater for more than this number. There are plenty of work surfaces and storage. The utility room is to be found in a separate building accessed just outside the external kitchen door. The dining room is next door and is a lovely room, with table that can seat 8 people comfortably, to a maximum of 10 people.

LocationTarbert

The tranquil town of Tarbert is built on the edge of the isthmus linking Kintyre with Knapdale. With Loch Fyne to the east, and West Loch Tarbert to the west, the town is the gateway to the Kintyre peninsula. Set around the attractive natural harbour and marina the town enjoys lovely views across the water, best appreciated from the hill-top ruins of Robert the Bruce’s Castle, located a short walk south of the harbour. Further west the ferry terminal offers important links across Loch Fyne. Tarbert has its own 9 hole course for a spot of leisurely golf, and the Kintyre Way walking route passes through the town. There are a number of other walking routes around the area, taking in the rugged landscapes of the peninsula.

Argyllshire

Argyllshire is one of the larger of the Scottish counties. Located in the west, Argyll incorporates the coastline and isles between the Mull of Kintyre up to Ardnamurchan. The area’s biggest attraction is its immense range of landscapes; with miles of rugged cliffs and mountainous highland scenery to discover, as well as beautiful woodlands, the area is a dream destination for nature lovers. Why not visit the magnificent volcanic rock island of Staffa, where the puffins make their summer home? Or join the Beaver Trail to spot the elusive mammal recently reintroduced to the area. You could also take in the Gulf of Corryvreckan on the island at Jura, the third largest natural whirlpool in the world! Island hopping tours are a great way to discover the isles of Argyll, and for keen walkers, the mountainous landscapes of the likes of Ardgour, and the westerly range of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are well worth a visit. Towns to take in include Oban, a resort town nestled on the Firth of Lorn; Dunoon, home to the famous Cowal Highland Gathering, an annual highland games; and Campbeltown, the county’s historic centre for whisky, fishing and ship-building.

Highlands and Islands

This region takes in Inverness-shire, Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness and the islands include the Inner and Outer Hebrides as well as Orkney and the Shetland islands. For spectacular scenery the Highlands of Scotland provides some of the best, with a huge expanse of area full of mountains, lochs and glens full of romance, wildlife and scenic beauty. The heritage of this area includes Culloden, taking the ferry to the Isle of Skye or just taking in one of the many castles like Eilean Donan. There is also an immense range of wildlife to be found.

30th May 2016 Great

The property was fantastic - the only reason I have not given an excellent rating is the steps into the kitchen are quite slippy and did cause a couple of falls.

The property has been sympathetically restored and is maintained to a high standard, we loved the location and the games room. And of course the views!

Would recommend in a heart beat.
