Description

With contemporary works of art, carvings and wall paintings, it certainly has its own story to tell of heaven and of hell! But the castle itself is just heaven.

On offer is a stunning large holiday home venue within a unique castle, which dates back to medieval times, which was rebuilt from a ruin and restored to its former glory incorporating modern twists in 1996. Set above woodland on one side and an agricultural setting on the other, the castle has a large lawn area and an orchard within the 8 acres of private grounds, with a wonderful tree-lined driveway that leads you up to the castle. Above the doorway is a motto in Latin - “Dilexi Decorum Domus Tuae” which translated means – “I have loved, oh lord, thy beauty of the house” and your guests will indeed be bowled over when they see what this castle has to offer.

On entering via the steps at the turreted entrance, is the “Great Hall”, with minstrel’s gallery, which houses the living space and dining area, with kitchen next door. Here you will find a warming wood-burning stove and the beginning of the modern and ancient history of the castle. Spread over 5 floors, the accommodation is below this floor and on the floors above and sleeps up to 12 adults and 2 children. There is also a gallery on the top floor which is a great room to gather in for your guests or for an event. The grounds consist of a herb garden, orchard and open area, open garage and walled viewing tower, with parking by the castle for about 8 cars. This is an amazing fortified tower house which has been lovingly restored in an authentic and contemporary manner and is ideal for family holidays, family occasions and for golfers.

  • Please note
  • The Great Hall can be found on the main floor level of this tower, which is accessed by steps up into the castle on arrival. Within this large space is housed the dining area and the main seating area by the wood-burning stove. With large windows and a minstrels gallery above it is an impressive room by any standards, but with modern carving and paintings throughout, it has a more modern touch. The compass room, which is a small ante room, is to be found at this level. On the floor above is a smaller sitting room with wide-screen TV, which is ideal for children or just for a more cosy setting. On the top floor is a vast space the length of the building which known as the gallery. It is ideal for hosting a drinks party for your group or an event for up to 30 guests on occasion by request. There are two water closets available for guests.

Within the Great Hall is housed the dining area and the main seating area by the wood-burning stove. The dining table is ideal for seating between 10/12 people and is a great oak table with dining chairs. According to previous visitors the atmosphere is amazing once you put on with some candles, bring out your feast and add your guests to the mix, which all creates a very special occasion. The kitchen is located next door and is a well equipped kitchen, with traditional AGA. Whilst there is also a separate electric hob as well to cater for all your cooking needs. For less formal dining, there is a table in the kitchen where informal breakfasts or children can be fed. There is a utility room next door and access to a back door, which leads outside to some steps into the castle.

Whilst there is a pub and general store within a mile of the castle, the main shopping can be done in the supermarket in Cupar or on the High Street. Fife is famous for golf and St Andrews is only 7 miles away, with the famous Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course, being essential for all golfers to experience the Home of Golf. For family entertainment there is a local Deer Centre and Deep Sea World is a great day out. Travelling to Edinburgh could not be easier by train.

Everyone in our family from toddlers to grandparents LOVED staying in the castle. A highlight of our two weeks in Scotland. The location and the amenities were perfect for our group. I would absolutely recommend this castle to anyone and can only dream that we would have the opportunity to return again. Thank you! What a treasure!

Delighted to hear the holiday was a memorable one for you and your family. Castle holidays are a very unique experience and we're lucky to have one of the largest selections to choose from in Scotland.

The representative at Scotts Castles was responsive. It became clear that the castle was booked from multiple sites as they didn't seem to have the most up to date information about what other bookings had been made already and the availability of the property.

Thanks for your feedback and yes, we recognise where owners choose to market their properties across multiple sites the availability will not be as accurate as the calendars we manage ourselves. Fortunately this issue falls on a minority of owners with whom we work hard with to keep their calendars up to date. I'm glad we were able to help find you some dates that were free to book, it's a very popular property and availability can change on an hourly rate!

You cannot possibly have a more interesting, beautiful or unique experience than we were privileged to have at the Castle in Cupar, Fife. It was our second visit there and will certainly not be our last.
Our host and owner Etsuko, was most helpful getting us settled in and made herself available should we need assistance of any kind.
There are not enough superlatives to describe the Castle!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review, sounds like your second trip to this beautiful castle was all you hoped for and more! So nice to hear the owner was also able to welcome your group upon arrival and offer help throughout your stay.

The castle was beautiful, very comfortable and well equipped. The perfect holiday for us (8 adults and 5 children aged 4 - 12). The Aga was so useful and the kitchen very cosy. The grand hall was perfect for our Christmas meal and for games and chatting in front of the fire. The castle was so cosy, even our Australian relatives weren't cold. The owner was lovely and very helpful and welcoming. We hope to stay at the castle again some day and we haven't stopped recommending it to friends and colleagues since we returned.

Many thanks for your lovely comments, great to hear you found the castle cosy and warm despite the Wintry weather outside! The grand hall is perfect for getting together and the quirky artwork and antiques make this castle a truly memorable holiday. Sounds like the castle was all your family hoped for, it’s so nice to hear happy holiday stories!

Fantastic service from Scotts, very pleasant to deal with, quick to respond and couldn't be happier to help. Took the time to respond in detail to all of our questions. We would not hesitate to book through Scotts again and would recommend to family and friends.

Thanks so much for the excellent feedback, glad you found our team helpful & friendly and we would be delighted to assist with any future holiday plans.

There could not possibly be any complaints about a stay at the Castle. The property has been renovated to a fantastic standard. It is very comfortable, spacious, perfectly equipped and clean. The owners can only be thanked by native Scots for restoring one of our most historic buildings to its original state with so much care and skill The Jack clan held their 6th clan gathering in November and hope to return next year to repeat the experience.

Great to hear you found our service professional and friendly, many thanks for taking the time to submit your feedback.

We had a fantastic time very clean well looked after property. Very warm with the underfloor heating and the owner couldn't do enough for us. We will stop again sometime as the standard of the property was excellent. If you are reading my feedback and wondering wether this is worth going to. Make the decision and go, you will not be disappointed it's 5 star very big and very warm. At Andrews is well worth a trip to also as it's just 13 min drive. Thanks escrow for the magnificent and special castle you have bought back from ruin.

Thanks so much for your fantastic feedback! We will certainly pass your comments onto the owner and it sounds like you all had a brilliant time.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
