The pretty village of Sandhurst is a great central location for touring all over Kent and Sussex, with good rail links for day trips to London and Hastings. The steam railway from Tenterden is a lovely way to explore the rural countryside through the Rother Valley. Nearby is the moated 14th century Bodiam Castle, visitors can explore the ruins with guided talks from the medieval characters on site. There are also a variety of seasonal events such as medieval cookery, dancing and walks through the grounds.

The gardens at Pashley Manor are famous for the Tulip Festival and throughout the grounds are interesting sculptures and walks around the Old Moat. Other local gardens include Great Dixter House and Hole Park where cream teas served in the beautiful gardens and conducted tours can be booked of the 15 acres of grounds. The dunes at Camber Sands and the historic fortified town of Rye are worth a visit if making a day trip to the coast.

Chapel Down Winery offers guided tours of the vinery and a shop on site sells their wine and other local produce. Bedgebury National Pinetum has various walking and cycling routes through the forest. The Kino Digital venue has a fantastic choice of films, ballet and opera.
