Inviting Family Retreat, near Glasbury-on-wye (MARGABR)

The Property is a wonderful very spacious and comfortable contemporary barn conversion - this is a great place to stay for a group of friend or a "grown up family" very easy to pop to Hay or to visit the Herefordshire Border Country yet still only 12 miles from Brecon. The Property (named after the Owner's Yatching past) is a perfect escape with its quiet cobbled courtyard, rolling lawns and chic interior. Originally the farm to Maesllwch Castle, this collection of 3 stunningly beautiful, spacious and unique properties form an L-shape around a picturesque cobbled courtyard. Each property showcases features that hark back to its old life. The Property was formerly the coach house and, whilst the original stalls are visible on the ground floor, the first floor incorporates the large circular windows once used for tossing straw down to the yard from the lofts. Within a few minutes drive there are several excellent restaurants and gastro-pubs you will be spoilt for choice. As shown on a "Home Sweet Holiday Home ITV1 Holiday programme"

Superb accommodation

Come through the front door at The Property and admire the spacious entrance hall with flagstone floor, double height glazing and galleried staircase. There are two large bedrooms and a bathroom off this hallway with a further two bedrooms, bathroom and open plan living area on the first floor.

Bedroom 2: large double aspect twin.

Both rooms have beautiful wood floors, beamed ceilings and feature full height windows, the twin room has a glazed door leading out to the courtyard.

The ground floor bathroom has a toilet, handbasin and corner shower.

Upstairs the double-height ceilings and glazing result in a bright and spacious landing.

Bedroom 3: has a super king-sized bed, beamed ceilings and views of the gardens.

Bedroom 4: has a king-sized bed, rear views from a glazed door with 'Juliette' balcony and more beautiful beams.

Back on to the landing there is a large bathroom with his and hers hand basins, toilet and bath with shower over.

At the other end of the landing is a fabulous living area. The L-shaped kitchen is open plan with a double electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer. There is a dining table and chairs, 3 comfortable sofas arranged around a lovely woodburning stove and a TV with DVD and CD player. The room is stunning with exposed A-frame roof beams and 2 large circular windows overlooking the courtyard.

The Property shares a separate driveway behind the property with Yellow Drama and there is ample parking and large lawned garden with terrace.

Dream surroundings

The Property is the largest of the 3 properties and offers accommodation for up to 8 people in 4 large bedrooms. The layout has been designed to take full advantage of both the exposed beams in the roof structure and the large circular windows and as such, the huge open-plan kitchen/sitting/dining room is on the first floor. Ideal for large groups, great for entertaining

With its three luxury cottages providing accommodation for up to 20 people, Glanhenwye would be a wonderful choice for a holiday with the extended family, a break with other families or a large group of friends. All three properties offer unique features but equal luxury, and The Property and Yellow Drama particularly, offer wonderful open plan kitchen/sitting and dining areas, ideal for entertaining. With all three cottages so beautifully furnished and well-appointed the only difficult choice is which to reserve for yourself!.

A beautiful and historical setting

Nestled within the lush Wye Valley and originally a farm built to serve Maesllwch Castle, Glanhenwye lies between the picturesque 15th century castle and the River Wye at Glasbury. The cobbled courtyard retains many of its 18th century features including beautiful stone arches and the original stalls for the horses. With the owners house in one corner, the cottages Jessica, The Property and Yellow Drama form two sides of the original farm yard. There is separate driveway access behind the buildings for visitors staying at The Property and Yellow Drama. The rather flamboyant names for each property are derived from yachts and race boats, reflecting the owner's successful career in the yachting world. Beautiful, mature gardens lie to the rear of the properties and a private terrace area is provided for each. Children will love the vast lawns behind the cottages and are welcome to explore and play in the large field nearby.

Days out to remember

Gather the group in the morning and make the short walk to the River Cafe on the banks of the Wye at Glasbury. Enjoy an almond croissant or a bacon sandwich on the terrace overlooking the river before grabbing a delicious packed lunch and heading down the steps to Wye Valley Canoes. They can provide one or two-man kayaks, or a larger canoe if you need to accommodate a small child, as well as all the equipment and advice you'll need. Push off from the bank and paddle the 5 miles (or approx. 2 hours) to the lovely town of Hay-on-Wye, or take on the 10 mile paddle to The Boat Inn at Whitney. After working up an appetite you could sit on the river beach at Hay with your packed lunch or eat in one of the great cafe's or pubs in the town. Wye Valley Canoes will arrange to pick you and the boats up whenever you're ready. What a lovely way to travel, and to admire the Wye Valley from a totally different prospective.

Explore Hay-on-Wye

Just 4 miles up the road, or 2 hours by canoe, is Hay-on-Wye. The 'Town of Books' is fascinating, the shops there will not only provide for all your practical needs but also offer hours of browsing. There are boutique clothes shops, antique dealers, retailer's catering for crafts and interiors amongst many other things. There are some excellent pubs and restaurants and the most wonderful, old-fashioned sweetie shop. The little shops sit along quaint, narrow streets with the stunning and picturesque backdrop of Hay's 12th century, partially ruined castle.

Numerous outdoor activities and places to visit

For those looking for an active holiday this location offers a huge choice of outdoor activities and sports. With some of the best cycle routes in the region you'll be spoilt for choice. The incredible Gospel Pass is 5 miles away allowing direct routes into the Llanthony Valley, Offa's Dyke Path, and the National Cycle Route 42. Glanhenwye is also ideally located near The Begwyns, an upland moorland area. Largely unexplored, there are no set walks just a vast, wild and beautiful area to enjoy.

With the River Usk a few minutes walk away, water enthusiasts can enjoy canoeing and fishing. Further activities such as hang gliding, shooting, rock climbing, abseiling, gorge-walking, rafting, pot-holing, golf, off-road driving, paint-balling, orienteering and quad-biking can all be arranged locally, with nearby Llangorse Lake being a popular destination - this is a real hotspot for outdoor activities.

A warm welcome

The owners of Glanhenwye offer a warm welcome. From their home on the opposite side of the cobbled courtyard they are more than happy to accommodate any reasonable requests, whether that be for transport or for a fluent Dutch speaker! A welcome tray is provided at each cottage and please note that a £250 bond per property is payable to the owner upon arrival.
