Well Appointed Group Retreat, Windermere

As you arrive at Wetherlam there is little clue to the position this house commands but once inside the lounge the large bay window reveals one of the most stunning views you could imagine. From the hay meadows and lambing fields of the Troutbeck Valley, across Lake Windemere to Claife Heights to the west and Loughrigg and Wansfell to the north and on to the central mountain massif of Lakeland ranging from the Coniston Fells, the Scafell range and the majestic Langdales, this property simply has a view that is unsurpassed.

Set in an elevated hillside position in nearly three acres of gardens and ground, built as a family home in the 1930s by the current owner's family this five bedroom traditional Lakeland home has played host to countless memorable family holidays over its life time.

Just a mile from the picturesque village of Troutbeck, which retains a local post office and small village shop and two popular local pubs, and only a few minutes' drive from the popular villages of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere, Wetherlam is an ideal base for getting out and about and enjoying all the Lake District has to offer.

Accommodation in detail

The front door opens to a spacious hallway leading to the large lounge with feature bay window taking in the stunning vista beyond. The lounge offers comfy seating, an open fire, TV, piano and a small library of books to choose from.

The kitchen / diner has a homely feel but once again it is all about the views with large picture windows looking out across the gardens. There is a large family dining table and though compact, the kitchen offers everything you need to cook up a hearty Lakeland breakfast of a great family dinner.

Also on the ground floor there is a Snug/TV room that opens directly to the garden and is an ideal haven to escape to read or to catch up on the news. Before you climb the stairs there is a downstairs shower room with WC.

The bedrooms are all found on the first floor; three double rooms and two twin rooms. Two of the double rooms and one of the twin rooms share the stunning views out across the valley and of the two on the other side of the property, the twin room has an ensuite shower. The bedrooms are complimented with a traditional family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC.

Outside the property there is parking for three cars on the driveway. The gardens offer a large patio complete with large granite topped dining table ideal for alfresco dining on a summers evening and from which you can enjoy the view, With over 2 acres of gardens and grounds it really is ideal for children to play or to picnic under the mature trees and in the early summer enjoy the magnificent display of colour from the Rhododendron and Azaleas.

The Troutbeck Valley is popular with walkers, photographers and those who love to do nothing but admire the scenery! There are a number of walks to enjoy in the area, ranging from a leisurely stroll around Brotherswater to an exciting trek on the Wansfell Ridge.

Whatever you get up to, you'll be tempted by a meal or a pint of real Lakeland ale at the Mortal Man Inn in Troutbeck - One of the best country pubs in the Lake District.

LocationCumbria & The Lake District

The rural county of Cumbria is one of the most attractive in England. It contains the whole of the area known as the Lake District, as well as the northern part of the Pennines mountain range and, somewhat counter-intuitively, a part of the Yorkshire Dales.

The county is replete with attractions for the visitor, its historic heritage ranging from houses and gardens to stone circles and activities ranging from walking and climbing to watersports and fishing. Cumbria's lakes, valleys and fells can loosely be broken down into eight areas.

The North Lakes are the most popular with the serious outdoor enthusiast and the South Lakes draw most of the holidaymakers. The Western Lakes are less busy but still hold some varied attractions and appeal to the walkers as well as families and groups. They are home to England's tallest mountain, known as Scafell Pike.

East Lakes has its quota of mountains too, including the well-known Helvellyn, and is a fairly quiet area. Visit the Eden Valley and North Pennine area for wilderness, castles and rural villages, or perhaps consider North and South Cumbria. In the former we find Hadrian's Wall and the city of Carlisle. In the latter, coastal resorts and the biggest town, Kendal. Finally, the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful part of Cumbria with country pubs, easy walking, and a thriving arts scene.
