There are two spacious, light and contemporary reception rooms, brimming with character, showing off polished slate and adorning oak beams with wood burning stoves. The huge farmhouse kitchen, luxuriously equipped with everything you may need, complete with original 'butchers block' and an oak stable door to the garden. The magical forest does surround this beautiful hamlet boasting some of the best mountain biking trails in the country along with 'Go Ape' Grizedale only a 15 minute walk from the property, a must for adventure junkies yet the walking throughout this magnificent part of the Lakes is hard to beat.

Accommodation in detail

A lane leads off the heart of this hamlet to Satterthwaite Farmhouse with ample private parking right outside the kitchen front garden; wander through the pretty garden and through a traditional entrance porch and substantial oak entrance door into the first reception room, a spacious and luxurious room with warming wood burner alongside underfloor heating to polished slate and with simply beautiful furnishings to completely unwind in; there is a second sitting room, also with wood burner and picture windows, more comfy leather furnishings and Smart TV's. The kitchen dining room certainly suits this wonderful farmhouse, also set on a polished slate underfloor heater covering and with access to the rear garden and separate utility. The magnificent yew staircase has a quirky cloakroom / 5th WC / wash basin beneath it, and this leads to the first floor. On this level are three beautiful bedroom suites, each complete with en-suite facility, two with designer free standing baths and separate monsoon shower facilities and one with en-suite shower room, each with adorable views; a king size sleigh bed; a super king and a (zip-and-link) bed, this can be made as a super king or a twin bedded room, so please specify how you would like this when booking? Upstairs to the top floor and the 4th bedroom suite, with sleigh king size bed and oak beams, en-suite shower room and star gazing windows. The garden of this magnificent farmhouse is a real delight with a terraced patio with garden furniture. A secure outbuilding is ideal for the secure storage of expensive mountain bikes or outdoor equipment.

Location

This Satterthwaite holiday home enjoys a peaceful, picturesque location between the lakes of Coniston and Windermere, just south of Hawkshead village. The sleepy hamlet is surrounded by a natural playground of stunning landscapes to explore; a great base for walking and outdoor adventure as well as for escaping the everyday rush.

On your doorstep is Grizedale Forest which has an intriguing network of walking routes, cycle paths and sculpture trails. Also Go Ape zip wires for a fun for all the family day out. Lake Windermere lies to the east, and a car-ferry crossing can take you across the lake to explore the lively attractions of Bowness village.

Also close by is the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter famously lived and was inspired to write her children's stories. Visit the author's home at Hill Top and explore her favourite places; such as Esthwaite Water and Moss Eccles Tarn.

Hawkshead village itself is easily reached to your north around 2.5miles from the property; a charming historic village of whitewashed Lakeland cottages, car-free cobbled streets and interesting local shops. You can stock up the kitchen there, or drive just a few miles to Ambleside village.

LocationCumbria & The Lake District

The rural county of Cumbria is one of the most attractive in England. It contains the whole of the area known as the Lake District, as well as the northern part of the Pennines mountain range and, somewhat counter-intuitively, a part of the Yorkshire Dales.

The county is replete with attractions for the visitor, its historic heritage ranging from houses and gardens to stone circles and activities ranging from walking and climbing to watersports and fishing. Cumbria's lakes, valleys and fells can loosely be broken down into eight areas.

The North Lakes are the most popular with the serious outdoor enthusiast and the South Lakes draw most of the holidaymakers. The Western Lakes are less busy but still hold some varied attractions and appeal to the walkers as well as families and groups. They are home to England's tallest mountain, known as Scafell Pike.

East Lakes has its quota of mountains too, including the well-known Helvellyn, and is a fairly quiet area. Visit the Eden Valley and North Pennine area for wilderness, castles and rural villages, or perhaps consider North and South Cumbria. In the former we find Hadrian's Wall and the city of Carlisle. In the latter, coastal resorts and the biggest town, Kendal. Finally, the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful part of Cumbria with country pubs, easy walking, and a thriving arts scene.
