Far Nook is a beautifully presented, traditional, stone built Lakeland house set in attractive gardens, within convenient and level walking distance of Ambleside village and with ample parking for a number of cars. Beautifully finished to a very high standard the property offers high quality accommodation in the heart of the Lake District. With four bedrooms and bathrooms, the house is ideally suited to special occasions, social gatherings and family holidays.

Gather socially in front of the cosy log burning stove in the elegant lounge, enjoy a drink in the beautiful gardens or relax in the TV lounge.

The house retains many of the original features from cornicing, parquet floors, a beautiful staircase and Arts and Crafts fireplaces.
The bustling village of Ambleside is just a five minute walk away and offers a great selection of local bars, restaurants and cafes along with a great range of local shops many selling local produce. Returning to Far Nook you will find a well-appointed kitchen that is the perfect place to prepare everything from a great Lakeland breakfast to a fantastic dinner to share with family or friends.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District there are a myriad of walks from the door, follow in the footsteps of William Wordsworth and enjoy an afternoon stroll to Grasmere, the more adventurous might head out onto Fairfield Horseshoe a favourite of many a Lakeland Fell walker and if you believe a little effort deserves a reward why not watch sunset from the top of the nearby Loughrigg Fell!

Accommodation in detail

Enter Far Nook from the driveway and the hall way leads to a cosy TV lounge, with a beautiful fire place with living flame stove, an elegant lounge ideal for every occasion, with a large bay window with views to the garden and a log burning stove. The kitchen is well appointed with plenty of work surfaces and storage. The range cooker offers five gas hobs and double electric oven and is the ideal place to prepare everything from a hearty breakfast to Christmas Dinner! The dining table has views out to Loughrigg through bi-fold doors and a picture window facing Wansfell..

The large ground floor king size bedroom offers a welcoming retreat at the end of the day and it is complemented with an ensuite bathroom. The property is bright and airy throughout but this is especially so in the generous south facing sunroom which is the ideal spot to enjoy a good book or the weekend newspapers.

Heading upstairs there are a further three bedrooms. The dual aspect king size master bedroom with ensuite, a twin bedroom, with views to the garden and an ensuite bathroom and a comfortable double bedroom with adjacent family bathroom. All bedrooms have a TV with built in DVD player. All four bathrooms offer full size baths with shower over and there is an additional guest toilet on the ground floor.

The gardens wrap around the south corner of the property and mature planting provides privacy. With lawns, herbaceous borders, shrubs, trees, a small pond with a water feature this really is a beautiful place to sit and relax or to enjoy a BBQ on a summer's evening. A summer house provides shelter for those warm days with an occasional rain shower! To the front of the property, within the grounds, there is parking for three cars and an additional three cars could also be parked on the driveway if required. To the rear of the property there is a lockable shed that is available for guests to use to store mountain bikes or canoes.

Location

This large Ambleside self-catering house enjoys a wonderful location; set in a large garden despite only a short level stroll from the centre of Ambleside.

Ambleside village is located on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. The surrounding scenery of Lakeland Fells is dramatic, and lends a stunning backdrop to the Lakeland stone buildings and attractive streets of the village. One of the Lake District's most sophisticated communities, Ambleside village is alive with interesting local businesses, shops, cinema and acclaimed Lake District restaurants and pubs.

Larger groups or families will love the freedom this location brings. Stroll to the shops or out for a coffee, then wander to Waterhead Pier to take a cruise on the lake. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly from Waterhead Pier (just outside the village centre) and provide a scenic and car free route to Bowness and Lakeside. A fabulous way for all to explore.
For walking, Ambleside is renowned as a hub for enthusiasts. Numerous famous routes begin close by, and a wide range of strolls take in breath-taking scenery without having to travel too far. Ambleside is well stocked with outdoor shops and route information is widely available.

By night, you'll find plenty to entertain. Catch a film at one of the two cinemas, enjoy a drink on the shores of the lake or sample some of our region's finest dining - all just a stroll from your doorstep! The A591 winds its way from Ambleside to Grasmere and Keswick, branching off to Coniston and such delights as the Langdale Valley and Hawkshead .

LocationAmbleside

Known as one the best towns to use as a base for exploring the Lake District, Ambleside is located on the edge of Windermere, England’s largest natural lake making this region a favourite with water sports enthusiasts and walkers. As a gateway to Scotland, this area has several interesting Roman fortresses to visit, such as Galava, Ravenglass and Hard Knott Fort.

The Lake Windermere ferry is a convenient service for crossing the shores and exploring the area, with cruises and boat hire available. A popular local attraction is Hill Top, the farmhouse owned by Beatrix Potter which is worth a visit for fans of the author. An iconic building of Ambleside is the tiny Bridge House over Stock Breck, and a short walk from the town is Stock Ghyll Force where there is a safe railed off point to view the impressive 70 foot waterfall.

Wray Castle is a great family day out, with dressing up for children and lots of outdoor space with play equipment. Grizedale Forest has numerous walking and cycling trails with a Go Ape tree top obstacle course on site. The Armitt Museum houses a gallery and collection of museum exhibitions. Open to the public, Dove Cottage was the family home of William Wordsworth and guided tours are available of the small museum and gardens. Also in the area is Rydal Mount House with portraits and memorabilia of the poets work.

Cumbria & The Lake District

The rural county of Cumbria is one of the most attractive in England. It contains the whole of the area known as the Lake District, as well as the northern part of the Pennines mountain range and, somewhat counter-intuitively, a part of the Yorkshire Dales.

The county is replete with attractions for the visitor, its historic heritage ranging from houses and gardens to stone circles and activities ranging from walking and climbing to watersports and fishing. Cumbria's lakes, valleys and fells can loosely be broken down into eight areas.

The North Lakes are the most popular with the serious outdoor enthusiast and the South Lakes draw most of the holidaymakers. The Western Lakes are less busy but still hold some varied attractions and appeal to the walkers as well as families and groups. They are home to England's tallest mountain, known as Scafell Pike.

East Lakes has its quota of mountains too, including the well-known Helvellyn, and is a fairly quiet area. Visit the Eden Valley and North Pennine area for wilderness, castles and rural villages, or perhaps consider North and South Cumbria. In the former we find Hadrian's Wall and the city of Carlisle. In the latter, coastal resorts and the biggest town, Kendal. Finally, the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful part of Cumbria with country pubs, easy walking, and a thriving arts scene.
