  • "Ivybank is everything I thought and hoped it would be."

Cottage feel but plenty of space and very comfortable. Totally relaxing and everything on hand in the lovely village of Thornhill. Great place to stay.

Location was very good and car parking excellent. The only issue we had was with the upstairs bathroom toilet flush which inconsistent.

  • "A wonderful second stay at Ivy Bank."

Super warm and comfortable with everything we needed and more for a lovely week. So peaceful and we love having both the countryside and the amenities all right on the doorstep.

  • "Disappointly dirty with a very unsafe turn on the staircase resulting on my son having to sleep downstairs on your sofa; he was visibly terrified of falling down the stairs."

I am sorry to hear that you found our beautiful house disappointingly dirty; we have employed the same housekeepers for the last three years and at no time have we ever had a comment of this nature (as you can clearly see from our previous reviews) As for the unsafe staircase which is clearly pictured on the website, we have two young children who regularly stay at the property who seem to have no issue on running up and down the stair case. We have have many guests of all ages from 8 to 80, none of whom have had an issue with the stairs. Property Owner

  • "Firstly I’d like to say this is one of the nicest properties we have stayed in and we have used Sykes many many times."

I’m being really picky when I say there are just a few tiny things that would have made this wonderful cottage absolutely perfect in every way. A floor mat is needed for the back door as you walk into the cottage. If it’s wet outside it’s very slippy on the kitchen tiled floor when you walk in. You need somewhere to hang your coats, there is a distinct lack of hanging hooks for coats and towels for that matter upstairs and down. You need to rearrange your plates and bowls, lots of chips in these because you have them placed in drawers on their side? Your umbrellas are all broken. We found a pair of dirty socks from the previous occupants in one of the upstairs linen baskets. The towel situation was bizarre when we arrived, we had one bath sheet each which in all honesty felt damp and was not soft, however, this was remedied very quickly with a phone call to the owners who within an hour had someone bring lots and lots of towels. It sounds like there was lots of things wrong but I am being super picky and when you offset the many many fabulous things about the cottage like, the fire being set up ready for just a match to light it when we arrived, the books, games, dvd’s, the sheer array of crockery, pans, etc, little things like condiments, salt, tea bags etc being left. A designated parking space. The fact it has two downstairs rooms with TV’s which are state of the art, (my 11 year old was thrilled). As I said this is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in and I would not hesitate to come back and stay for longer and recommend it to friends and family.

  • "We had a wonderful week at Ivy Bank."

There was lots of space for us, my parents and our two dogs. We made use of the wood burner most nights. The beds were very comfortable with great quality bedding and the whole house is decorated beautifully and very well equipped. Lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and Thornhill itself has several cafes, pubs and shops just a few steps away. Nights were very peaceful and our dogs settled no problem. Very much a home from home. Thank you.

  • "Ivybank is a beautiful traditional country cottage."

The owners had decorated the cottage for Christmas which was a lovely touch. They had also left us some lovely goodies. They contacted us before we arrived and during our stay to see if we needed any help. The house was warm when we arrived and there was a basket of logs for the log burner. It was a fabulous cottage and we had the best time. We would definitely recommend Ivybank and we will definitely return.

Thankyou for your lovely feedback! We hope to have you stay again! Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely week here with 4 teenagers."

The cottage is comfortable and cosy with enough space for you all to relax in the evenings. A perfect base to visit plenty of things in the area. We visited Culzean Castle in Ayr, Grey Mares Tail waterfall near Moffat, Ullswater in the Lake District as well as a few things closer to the cottage. We had a slight issue with the boiler one morning but the owners had someone out to fix it within a couple of hours and were very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I were to return to the area.
