Everything we needed in the house plus a great welcome pack and sign. The village is so friendly especially the shop keeper Bill. Great pub at bottom of village. Will certainly return next year. Obviously a very caring owner . Thankyou

  • "We were made very welcome with milk & biscuits both fir humans & dogs."

Sofa large & comfortable. Nice sized garden with good seating area & table, south facing & the weather was very hot so well used. Great shower, ample towels. I know the listing made it quite clear the bedroom was narrow but the bed frame sticks out so on the first night I managed to bash my shin and because the weather was warm it was like sleeping in a shoe box. But the worse thing was the sheet, thick & woolly, really uncomfortable. (Probably due to the unusual heatwave). There is no door between the kitchen & lounge either so it was difficult to get the dogs to sleep in their beds in the kitchen. Having said all that we did have a lovely week, the kitchen was great, lounge really comfy, good porch to dump your walking stuff. Nice sized garden with interest for the dogs & great shower.

Hi Jacqueline, thank you for leaving your feedback. We're pleased you felt so welcomed to Edge Hill and found both the inside and garden a nice place to enjoy your stay. It's nice to know you found the lounge and sofa comfy and that you thought the kitchen and shower was great too! Apologies that you found the sheet thick, woolly and therefore really uncomfortable. We do leave contact details in the cottage, for anything, no matter how big or small, we will do our best to help. We would have been more than happy to have changed your sheet to make your stay comfortable had you got in touch. Thank you for the feedback regarding having no door between the kitchen and lounge, this is something we will look into. We're so glad you had a lovely week though and we'd love to welcome you back. Kind regards, Adam. Property Owner

This is my second stay here, it is simple old cottage-style accommodation but has everything you need, was lovely and clean and is very well thought out. Wifi was particularly good. I did not need heating on but there is a starter pack for the log burner and a nice welcome pack. I would recommend this property and will return. If you want to escape the rat race go to Dumfries and Galloway.

There are a lot of walks to be done from the doorstep of Edgehill. The "Southern Upland Way" passes the front door. The cottage is at the top of the village, A lovely place with nice friendly people, who speak to one when passing by. The Clachan Inn has friendly, helpful staff and serves excellent meals. Booking essential as it very busy. The cottage is very clean, well kept and decorated. A small welcome gift made us feel right at home. This is probably one of the best, if not the best, cottages we have stayed in.

The welcome package is so nice. I am not able to walk too far but there are things that you can drive to. Our weather was not to good but still plenty to drive to. The only thing I could complain about is I’m a smoker and there’s no ashtray in the garden which would be nice. The whole place is wonderful and Murphy my cocker spaniel loved the space. The log burner was lovely and helped save on the electric heaters, it’s in a little complex at the top of the town but no one bothers you. First time to this area and Galloway Forest Park is superb (I done a lot of cycling), very little traffic and beautiful scenery. Perhaps one little thing missing was a clothes line - this would help avoid the use of expensive tumble dryer. All in all what a lovely little place and was sad to leave. Simple accommodation, an old cottage but excellent. One of the best cottages I have stayed in.

Beautiful birdsong but watch out for the gnats at dusk! There is now a washer dryer fitted and dark carpet throughout - much better for us dog owners but the hoover is not really up to the job! Well positioned for the coast and local towns but essentials available in the village at the post office and garage. There is also a bottle bank in the village next door to the school and lovely free range eggs for sale outside house opposite it. Information files at cottage very helpful and some interesting books. The bed is tight to get in and out of but comfy once you are settled. Sofa didn't provide much back support and is getting a little tired, however the shower is fantastic! Having rented many holiday cottages over the decades I have experienced places that vary from barely adequate to superb, but rarely are they so well equipped and with clear instructions for the appliances and local information. Often it is a mystery as to how to operate some weird domestic appliance, or there is a strange mish mash of kitchen utensils, but not at Edge Hill which had a properly equipped kitchen and clear instructions for everything. Also, nice touches like having the Ordnance Survey maps available.

Didn't have chance to use the log burner due to being out most of the time so not worth lighting the fire, but noticed that although there were a reasonable number of logs there was no spare kindling for a second fire if I had used it. Thankfully the storage heaters just about kept enough warmth in he cottage to allow me to be reasonable comfortable in the cold weather. Only real issue was that the bedroom was rather cramped and I found it impossible to walk down the side of the bed especially with arthritic knees and being a large person. I ended up having to move the bed to one side to increase the space on the other side so that I could squeeze into and out of the bed. In general the cottage was good for my purposes and I am probably looking to book it again for next year - just sad to notice a sizeable price rise for next year.

  • "I feel this cottage is overpriced."

The bedroom is exactly as pictured and described. Too small for comfort and bordering on claustrophobic. Some issues with cleaning - a stained toilet bowl in a new bathroom (which I was able to clean with the cleansers provided). The cooker was greasy inside and bedroom windowsill thick with dust (this may be because it’s really hard to get down the side of the bed). A pint of milk on arrival would have been lovely for us strangers to the area (lots of tea and coffee left). It didn’t spoil our holiday and we’ve had a lovely week. The cottage has a great range of equipment, the garden is wonderful for dog owners and the location fine for access to the Southern Upland Way.
