  • "A fantastic property, in a great location, Alexander always responsive when we had a couple of queries."

Essential to take extra blankets and jumpers during the winter months as it’s a huge property to heat. Plenty of individual space for a large family .

  • "The holiday rental property exceeded my expectations."

My family and I felt incredibly lucky to be able to have such a grand space for a week to enjoy as a holiday. It is cold, but this is Scotland and part of the charm, it can easily be solved by wearing thick jumpers. The property manager was very responsive to questions we had, including getting an electrician to visit ASAP for an issue we had. We tended to stay in a cook every night, the kitchen and dining table are well sized, but I would recommend taking your own cooking utensils, like good knifes and big pans (for induction), as it could be hit and miss and I feel if we were cooking for more than our family size of 7 people, it would have been testing.

  • "I think the communication through this platform to the owner was abysmal on our stay, and the damage attributed to us is ridiculous for a home of this age and cost."

Literally all the pictures of damages sent were present when we arrived. I'm shocked the owners are so confident to send us pictures of even broken piano keys. I can only imagine this is simple predatory behaviour or they use this piano so infrequently they aren't aware of the poor condition it is in. And this goes for the other damage claims made. I absolutely would not recommend this home to anyone after this experience.

The only slight thing was it was a bit cold the first day, but we had a ball there. Thanks Peter

  • "For someone who wants to experience how wealthy people live, this is the place to stay."

We liked how the property was renovated - a mixture of old and new. The property has everything required for a large group of family and friends - very spacious, beautiful grounds, and quiet. There were some minor issues such as being very cold inside the property when we arrived (but got warmer over time), WIFI connection not being brilliant, and a leak inside the property after stormy weather. However, we would definitely want to revisit the property.

Lots of seating and large tables. Easily seats 12 people. Beds are all doubles. Some twins would be nice. A few sink issues but owner sent a plumber. Really enjoyed this house for a family get together.

  • "The house has amazing wow factor; all of us were agog when we spied the house from it's private drive."

Very stunning. The hall, sitting rooms and kitchen are all lovely, set off by the grand piano, beautiful stairway and chandeliers. Location for the Trossachs was super. However, one shower leaked through the ceiling, the other tripped the electric and would not 'untrip'; the kitchen was not equipped for 7 never mind the full number of residents possible; the microwave did not work; the heating was on to obscure how damp the property is, and we could not open the inward opening windows fully as the blinds have been fixed across them; the upstairs desperately needs refurbishing. The property has incredible character and with attention could be stunning. We emailed the handling agent twice and had no reply. We did not contact the owner directly.

Thank you for your comments and I am thrilled that you found the wow factor there, including kitchen, sitting areas and hall. Apologies for the intermittent shower issue and any inconvenience, this has since been resolved. The kitchen was checked after your feedback and glasses have been replaced. The microwave was checked and needed switching on at the plug socket at the wall, I'm sorry if you didn't realise that at the time, I would have helped if I had known. I can reassure guests there is no damp at the property and due to it being a stone building we do have the heating on frequently for guest comfort. The window which caused an issue has of course now been fixed, thank you for letting me know via your feedback after your stay. Since your stay, some of the rooms have been refurbished, upgraded and redecorated. My phone number is on the pre arrival communications so I can help guests with anything they need. I have checked with Sykes who received your feedback after your stay and they did try to call you twice but were unable to reach you. I'm sorry that myself and Sykes were not given the opportunity to help you during the stay itself. Property Owner

  • "This place really could be spectacular with some Refurbishment and money spent on it."

We have a feeling we were the first people to stay in this place for a while. Many of the taps were seized, the bath tub and shower both came leaking through the downstairs ceilings, when it rained also the ceilings leaked. In fairness to the owner he did react promptly to these issues getting a plumber out to fix them. The place itself is wonderful, the downstairs layout is brilliant and very traditional, really fits the feel of the place nicely. The upstairs however is a bit mish mash, some older rooms some newer rooms. I feel the upstairs could maybe do with updating and everything being made to a similar spec/standard. It would have been nice if the gas fire in the living room worked and wasn’t just decorative. Overall we would return to this place, but only knowing that such issues had been fixed and maybe a bit of tlc shown to some areas of the property. Good location though for walking, lochs and fishing etc.

Thanks so much for your comments, and I'm please to be able to reassure you that some rooms have now been refurbished and redecorated. The shower leak issue has now been remedied and I was glad I could get a plumber out swiftly to minimise any impact to you, thank you for letting me know at the time, much appreciated.I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves in the local area and do look forward to welcoming you again in the future Property Owner

  • "The owner was lovely and phoned before our arrival to ensure we knew here we were going."

The place itself is incredible! like stated, its one of 4 apartments, and it looks like the one we stayed at was the biggest. Its the full of the front of the building! There is so much land around the building and tonnes to explore (including a river that my sister fell into). The inside was spacious, and well decorated. There is a local shop about a 5 min drive, and the only thing i would recommend is to follow the directions stated (I thought i was clever and put google maps on, and it took me to the back of the house where there is a gate, although its easy to get to the front) during October, it was a bit cold downstairs, until the owner changed the heating, and it wasnt to bad. The upstairs was warm enough. One of the best parts of the house was the log fire, which we had going every evening! The only downside was the Wifi, because its in the countryside, you dont really get reception inside the house (for most of us,it was really nice to have a break from internet, but my dad had work to do while we were away, and struggled) In the living room, you get the most internet. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Achentroig house, and i would go back again!

As the rest of the house All the bedrooms are spacious and have plenty of light The grounds and garden area are vast and the kids will enjoy playing games etc The property could do with some TLC the blinds were a bit awkward to use Some of the taps in the bedrooms were dripping. However this did not take away from our experience we had a fantastic stay and the owner Alex was very friendly and accommodating he provided extra bits when required and dealt with minor issues immediately Would highly recommend this place Our family had a brilliant time

  • "The House was situated in a beautiful place with lots of outdoor space."

Rooms were big and ample space. When we got there it was quite dusty and we had to dust everywhere as lots of flies on the window sill , in corners etc. For a place that holds 14 people the fridge/freezer was very small. Not enough pots and pans and we had to call the person in charge every so often as we weren’t sure about things in the house. The place was very cold when we got there and majority of the fire places were there for show. We weren’t told about the fire place that did work and had to go to the local Tesco to buy fire lights and matches to get it started. We had to find the the log cupboard which was situated at the back of the house but the neighbours told us where that was. One of the bathrooms needed a lot of work , lots of rust and just didn’t look nice, had a dirty feel to it. The toilets downstairs were so old and horrible as well. In general the amount of money paid for the week is really not reflected in the house. The internet was awful and never worked . We then found a fireplace in the kitchen actually worked and had a small fan heater under it but we discovered it 5 days after we got there. It’s a beautiful house and very close to lots of local places and I would go back as we know how to work the house and what’s where. But a lot of work needs doing in the house or the price should be dropped. The post stated 7 rooms yet we only had access to 6 , the beds were quite squeaky , so every time you turned it made a noise . All rooms had a sink but half didn’t work. There was no wood burning stove as stated in the post either . Some of the windows didn’t open either as it’s fire hazard as well . We were not told how to get rid of rubbish either but after speaking to the person in charge that was explained. Like I said it’s a beautiful house but needs modernisation. If your like us and happy to go in and dust it down you are fine. Just need a book of instructions on what works and what doesn’t and what’s where .

Thank you for your comments and feedback. I am sorry that you felt the house was quite dusty, I did check the cleanliness of the property before you arrived and wasn't aware of any issues. I was also on hand to respond to any queries you had. We will certainly take your suggestions on board, however I would like to mention that we do have a folder in the utility cupboard for guests which explains how to use the fire and appliances. Additionally, this is a listed property and modernising would take away from the charm and character of the place. Property Owner

About the location

BUCHLYVIE

Aberfoyle 11 miles, Loch Lomond 11 miles, Stirling 14 miles.

The village grew originally in the 17th century due to its location on the old military road which is now the A 811 and developed further with the arrival of the railway between Stirling and Balloch, at the south end of Loch Lomond. A further connection was added to Aberfoyle to accommodate the increasing tourist numbers. The lines were all discontinued by the 1950s and the main route through the village is the main A811 between Stirling and Loch Lomond. The village today has an inn, a supermarket, post office and coffee shop/ pottery shop and an art gallery. Most of central Scotland can easily be accessed from the village with Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Stirling and Glasgow all within easy reach.
