  • "Fantastic stay at Valley House for our party of 9 adults and Monty the dog."

The house and grounds are lovely and despite it being the end of October we were very lucky with the weather which helped us enjoy the garden, hot tub and surrounding area. Plenty of local walks including the Caen Hill locks and Roundway Hill Covert and a lovey Sunday roast at the Raven Inn. The house is very well equipped, including robes for the hot tub. A few more comfy chairs in the lounge would have been ideal as there were 9 adults so it was a bit of a squeeze. Request to have the attic room made into a double room was dealt with efficiently. Would recommend and hope to return.

  • "We had a fabulous stay thank you."

Amazing house and gardens - just perfect for our family gathering - we all loved it. Beautiful clean house with a lovely welcome hamper and robes to use when using the hot tub - lovely touches. We had everything we needed with a well equipped kitchen and toy room that went down a treat! The only thing we thought could be improved was the amount of seating in the lounge - no one wanted to spend the evening sat on a bean bag and if another sofa could be fitted in it would make all the difference.

Thank you so much for the great feedback. So glad you all enjoyed our lovely house and gardens. A couple of guests have mentioned the seating in the lounge now so we will be moving another sofa in to the room. Property Owner

  • "Nice house but let down by a few things, lounge window broken, this should have been noticed by the cleaner but they had obviously not cleaned the window sill for awhile as it was covered in dead flies."

House sleeps 10 but only enough suitable seats in lounge for 3/4, I would never expect to have to sit on beanbags in the main lounge but that’s what you get. There is another sofa in the study which could easily be moved into lounge. Kitchen well equipped but the majority of the plates were chipped and should be thrown away as unhygienic. The bedroom with on suite was nice but there is a full length glass panel between the bedroom and bathroom so no privacy when using the toilet, glass could easily be frosted. The grounds are very large with a stream which the children loved, it’s a pity that the current owners just cut the lawns as there is evidence of what must have been flower beds but are overgrown with weeds and nettles, there are also numerous fruit trees but don’t seem to be cared for. The child’s place house in the garden should be removed or replaced as dangerous. We did enjoy the daily visits from the deer to the garden though.

Dear Karen We are sorry to hear that your stay wasn’t as expected. The window has been cracked for a little while and we have notified the council and are awaiting their response regarding replacement. Because the house is Grade 2 listed, by law, we have to wait for their approval. This can take up to 3 months for a decision. We apologise that there were a few flies, we have regular problems with cluster flies due to the location and type of property. We always address these problems as soon as possible. We also have a problem with bats but again we try our best to ensure that it is not an Addams Family House of Horrors!! Valley House doesn’t have a huge lounge and we did once have an extra sofa in there but people said it was a bit tight. There is however a 3 seater sofa and 3 chairs as well as bean bags and we wouldn’t have a problem with anyone moving the other sofa in or the numerous chairs throughout the house. The kitchen plates were all replaced and added to at the end of June, we will be checking for any chips. There is also a full set of crockery in the dining room cupboard. There should be at least 30 dinner plates and 30 side plates for our guests use. The window in the en-suite has been a very controversial subject with most people quite liking it, we have owned the property for almost 3 years and have debated frosting it during this time but no one else has raised this issue and some have found it rather amusing. If it is an issue for anyone else we will address this. The current chemical store which looks as pretty as a play house is locked and not for guests use. The summer house next to it however should be ample for kids/ adults amusement, if they so wish. The garden is 5.5 acres of lawn, flower beds, meadows and woodland. It was in an incredibly poor state when we bought it and we have worked very hard to get it to where it is now. The flower beds surrounding the patio are now thriving through most seasons of the year. There is a 6 hour window between changeover and in this time we have to cut the lawns which takes 4 hours, empty, clean and refill the hot tub which takes 1.5 hours, clean the BBQ, strim, jet hose the patios, clean the windows, weed the beds, cut hedges every 4-5 weeks and most importantly repair any broken furniture and paint walls in the house where scuff marks are made. Just 3 weeks ago all of the summer house doors and windows had snapped off where they had been left open in the wind. The rocking horse and 2 chairs were broken not that long ago. All of these things take time to repair. It is impossible to keep the whole house and gardens to a hotel standard in our 6 hour turnaround time. The fruit trees were twice the size when we bought the property and you can not cut them by any more than a third every winter or you risk killing the tree. Once you have pruned them so hard they will not fruit the next year. We are fully aware that they need a summer prune to cut the suckers off, however it has been impossible due to time restrictions. August is notoriously bad for nettles, creeping vines and brambles in flower beds and we will be addressing these in our beautiful flowerbeds as soon as possible. We are very glad that you enjoyed the local wildlife and again are very sorry that you weren’t satisfied with your stay at Valley House. Kind regards Kate and Graham Property Owner

..we spent a week here at Christmas. The house is lovely warm and comfortable the grounds around it are amazing to walk the dogs and let the kids go off and explore the garden, stream, wood there is a tree house but needs renovating the kids would have loved that. The hot tub is a bonus plenty of room and set at the right temperature , the only gripe I have is if your taking dogs with you as a owner you are responsible for picking up your dogs mess. There was quite a bit of dog mess in the garden which wasn't any of our dogs as we picked it up as it was done. we had a wonderful Christmas there and wouldn't hesitate in returning in the very near future

Gorgeously decorated and the welcome hamper was much appreciated, as well as the ample amount of firewood provided for those cold winter nights. Perfect cosy retreat for walks and board games with friends :) Only thing to mention is that the trundle bed mattress was slightly uncomfortable to sleep on, though it is a trundle bed after all so one can't be too picky :)

Dear Stephen, really glad you and your guests enjoyed your stay. Just to let you know, as you have rebooked, we currently have 4 new mattresses on order for all the single beds. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas. Kate and Graham Property Owner

We came to valley house to spend time together as a family. 5 adults, a teenager, 2 children and the dog. We were welcomed into a warm and well presented home. Every tiny thing had been thought of. The welcome basket was out standing and so very generous. The home was clean and tidy, and felt like a home. We explored the home and the grounds and every one in the party said how beautiful it all was. We found new things to explore each time. We spent evenings In the hot tub watching the stars. The robes to use for the hot tub, what a great idea. The beds we all so comfortable, with lovely duvets and pillows. The rooms large and spacious and well decorated. The garden is well kept and maintained at such a high standard. So many places to visit in the area and every one so kind and welcoming We would love to return very soon. And we highly recommend this holiday home to every one and any one. Thank you for the best holiday.

  • "This is a wonderful property and perfect for a relaxing holiday with family."

The house and ground so were so good, and the weather so hot, we cancelled all our many plans for visiting local sites and we just chilled out in the garden and house. The hot tub was very heavily used and our dogs loved the freedom to wander around alone all day. (Actually one inaccuracy in the listing - the gardens are enclosed unless your dog can jump a low fence). There were many great touches to the stay - robes, really good toiletries, a great welcome basket, dog towels. The house is simply wonderful - full of character and with a well equipped kitchen. We've done many holidays like this but this was the best place we've stayed. We cannot recommend Valley House too highly.

We had a multi generational trip to cater for and this property fulfilled all our needs. Our group age was from 5 years to 86 years. beautiful house and fantastic grounds - helped by the fact that we were very lucky with the weather. Games, jigsaws, toys for the children and of course the wonderful hot tub, kept us all amused. So much so that we really didn't need to leave the house. My 5 years old grand daughter kept saying "Mummy please can we get a house like this" She loved paddling in the stream that runs through the garden. Everything we needed was provided. My only slight criticism was maybe the double mattresses are a little too firm but that's from personal taste. I would highly recommend this house.

In the words of our little one - ‘it was wonderful and it was giant’. Parking was plentiful, the location quiet but well connected and the spacious rooms in the house meant that everyone felt they had their own space despite being three generations and a dog! The Garden is lovely and absolutely huge and the hot tub is luxurious. The house itself is beautiful too and we loved the seasonal decorations! The only thing I would say is that it’s a bit of a tight squeeze for 10 fully grown adults and would be ideal for 8 adults plus 2 kids. Just because the bunk beds aren’t really suitable for adults and due to the amount of bathrooms. It would also be useful to have a tea towel or two provided. But we had a wonderful time and would definitely reccomend. One of the best, if not THE best, rental homes we’ve ever stayed in!
