  • "Diolch yn fawr !"

! Have just returned from a lovely weekend at Ty Castell, the house was clean, comfortable, warm and spacious, the location couldn’t have been any better as we were right in the centre of town which meant we could visit some of the restaurants, shops, pubs and attractions that Caernarfon has to offer very easily. Directions to the property were accurate and the parking was an additional bonus. The welcome pack of welsh food and drink was also greatly appreciated upon arrival. Looking to book again next year. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

  • "This is a beautiful house with everything you need."

It’s ideally located for walking and also perfectly located for transport and car journeys. The games room was a big hit with the children. The house is very spacious and clean. The only slight criticism we had was the sofas, they are very low down which isn’t helped by them being broken. That aside we are already planning to book again for next year

We appreciate your lovely comments and thank you for letting us know about the damage to the sofas. We have done temporary repairs and will be tackling the problem when we have a break without guests. Property Owner

  • "Great central location and excellent base for discovering beautiful North Wales of which we did plenty."

House fully equipped as described and issue whilst there was sorted quickly by owners. We would suggest some of the feedback left from Previous visitors is looked at such as Showers (poor requires pump or pumped electric shower) sofa damaged and requires replacing, and deep clean required due to finding items around the house which had been left by previous visitors. The house due to proximity being central and close to local pubs etc, can we very noisey especially on Friday/ Saturday evenings. We did have a great week at the house, thoroughly enjoyed the stay just the little niggles that are frustrating but overcome Thanks Rhys and Sian

We are glad that you had a nice stay. With regard to some of the issues raised over the last couple of years, we have installed a new shower tray in the attic bathroom, a new oven has been bought, and a new sofa will be bought in the very near future. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the noise from the pub across the road, nor the narrowness of the back lane. Property Owner

Good facilities, very clean and comfortable beds . We were a party of 7 and had more than ample space , it’s a generous house !!! There is a car electric charger outside the back of the house , the cost is using directly applicable to the owner . This was really helpful for my son , whose battery was very low on arrival . I would recommend, it’s definitely big enough and equipped to host a large family Christmas .

You were the first guests to use the car charging point. We are very pleased to hear that it was of use. Property Owner

The property was perfectly equipped and super clean with lovely touches throughout including the welcome beers and cake! Location was spot on, right next to the sea and main streets of cafés and bars, of course with this comes a little noise on a Saturday night but it didn't bother us. The games room was a firm favourite with our son. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We are glad that you liked the house and had a nice stay. Please come again. Property Owner

It is ideally situated for shops, cafes, restaurants and bars and only minutes away from the beautiful castle and harbour. It is also ideally situated for visiting the lovely surrounding areas. The parking space at the rear of the property is adequate for 2,fairly large vehicles. We had a great time and would certainly return.

  • "We had a lovely stay in Caernarfon."

There was lots to do. The property enjoyed a central location, great for the castle and shops however this meant it was rather noisy at times. Lots of building work and a pub on the corner meant we had noise late at night and first thing in the morning making sleeping for those in the rooms at the front of the property difficult, also the road sweeper came round at 6am every morning! I appreciate building work is not always going on and this was unfortunate for us. The description about the parking was inaccurate on the website. We had plenty of space for two SUVs the issue was getting them down the narrow lane with the dumped car in the first place. There were several out of date smoke alarms in the house, which I texted the owner to inform them of. We couldn’t use the shower in the attic bedroom as it caused water to drip through the ceiling of the bedroom below if we did. Also the headroom in the attic room was not adequate for an adult to use, it’s only suitable for children. There were a few other small maintenance issues, lightbulb needing replacement, loose door handle which we found a screwdriver to sort out and the screws in the threshold strips on the first floor bedroom had the screws sticking out of it which meant lots of stubbed toes. The kitchen diner was perfect for 9 people and very well equipped and the lounge space comfy and welcoming. The owners were very helpful in emptying the bins when we found them to be overflowing when we arrived, however given the issues mentioned above this is not a property we would choose to return to.

The cracked shower tray in the attic bedroom has been replaced. All other problems noted have been addressed. Property Owner

The accomodation is on several floors, the rooms are well appointed, the beds comfortable. There is plenty of space in the well equipped kitchen. There is room to park 2 cars in the space to the rear of the property, we parked a Ford Kuga and a Volvo medium size saloon next to one another without too much trouble.

  • "Eight of us (all adults) stayed at Ty Castell over Christmas and, despite some terrible weather most days, we had a great holiday."

There was plenty of space for everyone, the games room being especially appreciated by the younger adults in the group. Location in old town was also great for exploring / short walks. The parking at the rear was never an issue, despite us being in a large car, provided you are careful. The charging point, although we did not use it, would have been a great feature for those with an electric car. Our biggest issues were with the oven, which struggled generally with cooking for eight adults (let alone ten) - it's too small for a property this size and did not seem to heat up fully on any setting. A couple of metal baking trays would be a helpful, cheap addition as well (otherwise, we had all we needed) The 'attic room' was also a concern. Although you clearly point out the restricted head height in your listing, hard hats are needed! The very small window does not conform to the minimum size for a bedroom (450mm x 450mm). It also never really warmed up. In our view, this room should NOT be legally listed as a bedroom as there's no safe egress in case of fire. Suggest this be checked out, we did not feel safe sleeping up there. We would only therefore recommend Ty Castell for max eight people using the other four bedrooms (which are very nice).

We have replaced the oven since this comment was left. With regard to the attic bedroom, the fire safety assessment carried out by a professional firm has confirmed that all is in order. Property Owner

  • "An excellent holiday cottage."

It was well-appointed, particularly in the kitchen. We self-cater, rather than eating out, and there were more than enough pans, crockery and cutlery for all 9 of us (unlike a previous cottage, where I cooked spaghetti in a frying pan!). It was clean, the owners were helpful and welcoming, returned an item I had left in the cottage, and overall it was excellent value for money. I would recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation for a large group of people. The children enjoyed the table football. The location was perfect - plenty of activities within walking distance, and all of Snowdonia a short drive away.

  • "The property is brilliant, there was nine of us staying and a baby and there was plenty of space."

The property is in a very good central location surrounded by all the amenities. The kitchen is very well equipped and the extra touches that were there on arrival such as butter, Welsh cakes, tea, coffee etc is a lovely touch. The owners are very attentive, texting to ensure we’d settled in. We had a slight issue but on contacting the owners they were quick to contact us and sort the issue. The only down side was that the showers are not great and the cot mattress was very hard, if taking a baby I would recommend taking something extra to use as a mattress. But all in all the place is brilliant, would definitely recommend and would go again. Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. We have had guests suggesting in the past that power showers are installed. We have discussed this with our plumber, but because thehot water tank is located next to the boiler in the basement, and the top bathroom is on the 4th floor, the best option is electric showers, which we have. • "This is a superb holiday house, and we really enjoyed staying here."

The house is in a great location, almost exactly at the centre of the historic old town, approx 150m from Caernarfon Castle. The house was very spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The kitchen / dining area, living room, playroom, and utility room are all on the ground floor, which helps reduce noise for the bedrooms (which are on the first, second, and third floors). The house is on a street that's mostly residential, with very little traffic at night (although there was some noise from a nearby pub on Saturday night until 11pm). The off-road parking at the back of the house is accessed via a narrow passage that's difficult to manoeuvre - we were ok with 2 small-to-medium cars (with a passenger standing outside helping to judge distances), but other guests might prefer to park on the street or in a nearby public car park. Overall, this was one of the best holiday houses that we've ever stayed in, and we'd definitely stay here again.

  • "The accommodation was really clean and well looked after, especially on the ground and first floor."

The ground floor was perfect for our needs - lovely kitchen-diner with a large American style fridge-freezer and a dining table we could all get round. The addition of the snug/playroom is great for groups with children/teens; ours loved the table football! The owner left us some welcome goodies, which was a nice touch. The location is amazing right in the heart of Caernarfon - that does mean that there is a bit of noise from local nightlife, street cleaner, and very loud sea gulls, but suppose to be expected with this location! Worth it to have the castle, cafes, restaurants and shops on the doorstep. Amazing ice cream at 'Mrs Jones', great food at the Cantonese restaurant and Marina Italian. The property owner was very friendly and helpful and even sent back to us my daughter's precious Teddy bear, that got caught up in the bedding which was very kind of them. All in all a very good week away.

It is a tight entrance but we managed to park two estates next to a range rover which was also there. Just take your time and it really isn't an issue. The house was clean and the covid measures made us feel very safe. We stayed for two weeks so it was lovely that we had the option to have all the towels picked up and replaced after the first week. • "We arrived at the property after 5pm (Monday 24th august) as instructed by the owners due to ‘COVID deep Clean’ measures."

The property for the parking lot was not ideal, extremely tight and finding it also took its time. When we arrived into the property there was a very musty smell. We were greeted with the rules and regulations on everything we needed to do it it’s regards to the bins & recycling. The bins were not empty and advised that they needed to be emptied before we left. Due to having a 3 year old who wanted to play on the floor with her toys we noted instantly Copious amounts of black dog hair on the rug in the front room and around the table, within half hour of arriving we were cleaning which was certainly not anticipated with the price and the late arrival time. (Photos taken of dog hair) The top bedroom had coffee/tea stains on the bed and bedding ( photos have been taken). Overall the property was not clean and needed aspects updating ( stair carpets and some bedroom carpets specifically ) As for the area it was not overly pleasant and was done amenities there was not much to do. This all resulted in 3 members of the party leaving and driving home almost 3 hours within 24 hours. The rest of the party left a day before was due to the issues in the property and the lack of things to do. Overall we have booked many properties using Sykes cottages and other sites and this was our worst overall experience. We will be making a further complaint as the cleanliness of the property in this current climate was defiantly an issue.

We would like to explain that the recycling bins are emptied by the Council on Thursdays, and so on a Saturday when changeovers normally take place, there will be stuff in the bins. Similarly, the general refuse bins are emptied every 3 weeks. The instructions on how to find the property make it clear that the access to the parking space is very narrow, and turning can be a problem. Unfortunately, this is out of our control. The weather leading up to the stay had been very wet, which probably explains the musty smell that was detected, but we do try and ensure that the house is thoroughly aired on changeover days. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our property, as evidenced by other guests' feedback and can only imagine that there was a malfunction on our vacuum cleaner to cause the dog hairs to be left on the rug and floor. The cleaners have been briefed about this, and we will ensure that there will not be a recurrence. With regard to the stains on the bed linen, we obviously wash bed linen after every guest, and so we can only assume that the stain was very feint, but again we will be on the lookout to ensure that there is no recurrence. As for the lack of things to do in the area, we strongly refute this. Some attractions may have been closed due to Covid restrictions, but normally there are plenty of things to do in and around Caernarfon. We welcome positive criticism, and we take guests' comments very seriously. We are very sorry that your stay at Ty Castell did not meet your expectations. Property Owner
