Short of nothing needed. A beautiful place ideal for us and our friends to celebrate New Year. Although there was no pub in the village you could reach two within a 20 mins walk or couple of mins drive. I would highly recommend this property, it is the perfect space for family and friends. I would suggest new mattress’s though as they were all a little tired. Otherwise, perfect. Thank you

  • "The property is lovely – an amazing building full of light."

It's a great place for friends or family to gather and enjoy time together around the table or out exploring the beautiful landscape. We had a few little niggles – a radiator that had come away from the wall in one bedroom and the bedroom curtains let in a lot of light. The kitchen could really do with a good (and large) non-stick frying pan for cooking for a large group – and some clingfilm and tinfoil is always handy! We also had a hot water problem one morning but it was just one of those things and the owner acted instantly to get it sorted out. All in all, it's a beautiful home, very comfortable and a special place to spend time together.

Thank you for your feedback and confirming that the hot water problem was attended to immediately. We do ask that any issues are reported during your stay and whilst you reported a broken casserole dish there was no mention of the radiator coming away from the wall. The property manager did advise that the radiator was in working condition prior to your arrival. We are glad that you otherwise enjoyed your stay and thanks again for your comments. Property Owner

Perfect space for getting together with friends/family. Love the open plan living and dining space and it was brilliant for being able to chat and play board games. Cottage well-stocked and the shop about 3 mins walk away is a fantastic place for topping up on anything.

The bedrooms are comfy and the living space is welcoming and cosy all at once. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend. Plenty of walks and amenities nearby! The owner was very friendly and just a call away if you needed anything! Only recommendation I would have is to have plenty of toilet paper in the property as we had to go out and buy our own!

Even the ingenious addition of the turntable for parking added enjoyment! Warm, cosy and very private, considering it's central position. Thank you for the birthday presents, the lovely weekend and for maintaining such a great holiday cottage.

  • "A well presented property, well equipped kitchen, tastefully decorated, good lighting and space."

Very clean. Great little park for the children, well located (with a car). Car parking was a little tight, the property could benefit with a curved mirror on the opposite side of the road or perhaps consider removing the back wall to enable both cars to drive on with more ease. Thank you for a wonderful break.

  • "Great place for a family get-together."

Plenty of room to be able to spread about! There were one or two 'niggles' about the property one being the spotlights outside which were placed so the light shone into the downstairs bedrooms. The curtains were too thin and both my son's and their partners (one with a young baby) had disturbed sleep. The single glazed windows didn't help curb the road noise either but we assume the building is a listed building so nothing could be done about this. Overall though, a very nice place.

  • "The property is perfect for a large family or group."

The large open space in the centre of the house is conducive to large gatherings but the positioning of the bedrooms means you can have your privacy if required. The house is very well equipped (the kitchen is brilliant), with some nice decorative touches. Although we didn’t use them there are TVs in all rooms and a really eclectic range of books throughout the house which was charming. The restoration of the property was sensitively handled and visually engaging. We are a group of friends and this was our first weekend away together in 3 years. We cooked, ate, talked, slept (rinse and repeat) and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended.

  • "The Old Temperance Hall exceeded all of our expectations."

The main living area is bright and airy, with two large and comfortable sofas, and dining table. We were only a party of 6 however, the house would be more than comfortable for the 10 it can sleep. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped with plenty of glasses, mugs etc. as well as serving dishes and everything in between. The bedrooms were also very well appointed and comfortable with the main "suite" a real treat! Something the property description doesn't mention is the turntable in the parking area meaning there is no need to reverse off the drive onto the main road! I would thoroughly recommend The Old Temperance Hall and I am trying to find an excuse to visit again!

The blue lights outside the front bedrooms were irritating during the night with no obvious way of disabling them. It wasn’t clear how far away the bathroom was from the downstairs bedrooms in the description ie having to walk through the living room to access it. However, we enjoyed our stay and these weren’t major considerations.

  • "Lovely spacious hall conversion."

Very open plan which we enjoyed. Each bedroom had a double bed and tv for anyone to hide away in should they wish to. A couple of the beds had lumpy springs but this was easily fixed by putting one of the lovely squishy blankets under the sheet. The owners had supplied basics like washing up liquid / dishwasher tables which we very much appreciated. They had also left treats - doughnuts and cookies which was a welcoming touch. Living room area was comfortable for our large group to share together. Lovely large dining table and super huge oven meant we could enjoy big family meals. The property was not quite ready for us when we arrived at check in time , we had to wait 45 mins - this was a small niggle but after a long journey you just want to get in! The owner was friendly and apologetic and we were soon in and enjoying ourselves.

The property

This stunning detached former temperance hall is situated in the Staffordshire village of Kingsley, just eight miles from Alton Towers.

Built in 1855, the owners have renovated and refurbished the property to exacting standards to create a fabulous contemporary space, providing a memorable holiday home for a family get together.

The property beautifully combines modern fittings with original features including the fully-restored vaulted ceiling with exposed timber trusses and stone gothic-style mullion windows which give the cottage a truly impressive aspect.

Walk up the external stone steps and enter through the hallway which leads into a spectacular open plan living space with a spacious sitting and dining area alongside a contemporary kitchen.

There are two bedrooms on the ground floor along with a bathroom featuring a monsoon shower.

Climb your own private staircase to access the master bedroom suite with a charming en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower, plus another set of stairs access two further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Outside the hall, the superb renovation continues with off road parking for two cars on a gravel driveway beneath the large covered deck.

In addition, there is a landscaped garden with a generous-sized terrace and a large deck, from which steps lead up to tiered lawns, all of which are fully enclosed by dry stone walls.

The Old Temperance Hall is situated at the heart of the rural village of Kingsley with its rolling hills and open countryside for those who wish to take advantage of the numerous walks and public footpaths this area provides.

The Staffordshire Way, covering over fifty miles of open countryside, runs directly behind the property.

The Churnet Valley retains the largest remaining concentration of semi-natural woodland in Staffordshire and is designated for its high natural flora value and breeding bird populations.

All five species of British owls breed here and Kingsley Bird & Falconry Centre has one of the largest collections of birds of prey in the country.

It is an ideal place for visitors to see and learn about the birds, situated on the side of the Churnet Valley with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside.

The Churnet Valley Railway runs steam and historic diesel trains between Leekbrook Junction and Froghall, and is a remnant of the North Staffordshire Railway, built through the valley in the 1840s.

Steam trains leave from Froghall Station, which is just a five minute walk.

There is even a Rail Ale Trail that happens every summer, visiting various pubs along the route.

For the young at heart, Alton Towers Theme Park is only eight miles away, whilst for a more sedate day out, why not visit the charming market town of Leek with an antique market on Saturdays, food market on Sundays and many great pubs.

With the nearest golf club just a few miles away in the village of Whiston, and with horse riding available at various local equestrian centres, The Old Temperance Hall really is a wonderful holiday home that will live long in the memory.
