  • "We had a very relaxing week at Hickory House."

We only had one particularly wet day so drove to a local aquarium and enjoyed a steam train ride. House was just as described. Sadly some previous guests had caused some damage to the hot tub and table football but thankfully wasn't out of action for us completely. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and used Tesco delivery to have food there shortly after we arrived. The house is lovely and has interesting pieces of art and many games to keep you entertained! Hosts were easy to contact and we loved the Victoria sponge waiting for us!

Thank you Jude for a lovely review. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay despite a few issues. We have ordered replacements for everything, but unfortunately there isn't always time to get things replaced before new guests arrive. Thank you for being understanding about this. we hope to see you again sometime - thanks Helen Property Owner

There was everything that was needed in the property. Just only one very very small thing is heating - it was a bit low though was kept on throughout. Discovered on last day we have requested to have it turned up a bit. Nonetheless it didn't ruin the breakaway and would definitely come back again. Thank you so much Helen

  • "Fantastic house, we were family of 8 adults, enough space to spend time together or apart due to 2 lounges."

Kitchen had everything you could possibly need, very large conservatory with tabke and chairs for family meals and games. Hot tub was lovely and relaxing. There is a wood fire in one of the rooms (we didn't use, but wood there if we had wanted to and would be very cosy) Bedroom's were great with great veiws of fields and mountains and extremely comfortable mattresses. Local walks my family ventred up the mountain. Plenty of information for local attractions a d takeaway etc approx 45 mins from windermere. Host was fabulous, Helen greeted us and showed us the place on arrival, they live next door if you needed anything but respected our privacy during stay. Helen also left milk, juice, 12 eggs and a delicious homemade victoria sponge, tea, sugar and coffee, such a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend Hickory House Steph & Si Lovatt and family

  • "Went here as a delayed 23rd birthday celebration with my friends and we weren’t disappointed."

As promised Helen provided us with eggs, milk, orange juice and a homemade cake (best we ever had) upon arrival. They are an amazing host & couldn’t have asked for anyone better. The house is way better in person & the beds/duvets are so comfy. Plenty of storage. It states ‘games room’ even though there are plenty of games to play with, it’s not necessarily a ‘games room’ but this wasn’t a problem at all. I saw comments about the jets in the hot tub, but it’s exactly that, a hot tub not a jacuzzi so the jets aren’t going to the super strong - therefore don’t expect them to be strong. The hot tub was lovely! There are sheep nearby, but you don’t hear them that much & it doesn’t disturb your sleep at all so it’s not a problem. 100% recommend, you don’t need to leave your house to enjoy yourself

Lavinia, thank you for a lovely review. It was lovely to meet such a great group of ladies and to know you had a good time. Thank you for mentioning the 'games room' - we describe it as a second sitting room with games in the description, and I hope this will help other guests in making the right choice for their holiday. • "Amazing stay!"

Beds were very comfortable and the house was immaculate. Very well equipped kitchen with everything you could need. The care package on arrival was very much appreciated. There are down sides that feel petty but I feel I must mention them. The shower in the upstairs bathroom is very poor. I’m not sure if this is caused by low water pressure or hard water build up in the unit it’s self. The curtains in the king room are very light meaning the sun was pouring through them by 4am. Unfortunately the hot tub did not live up to expectations. The jets are very weak and the filter Continually came loose. Although these would not stop us from staying again. You could not ask for a better host than Helen she was so very friendly and nothing was too much.

We had a fantastic time staying in this house for my hen do weekend. There was 10 of us and plenty of space for us all, the beds were so comfy. The views are amazing especially while relaxing in the hot tub which was my absolute fave thing to do. Plenty of stuff for us to do inside the house as there was loads of board games provided as well outdoor games. Lovely conservatory where the table was, for us to all enjoy a cooked breakfast and Sunday dinner and spend our day chatting to one another. I would 100% recommend on going here for some time away as it was just perfect! Thank you so much for one of the best weekends ever!

Helen, the proprieter left welcoming cake and fizz and we had a fabulous week. The hot tub was well used and we bluetoothed our music through its sounds system. The lovely garden allowed the boys to play badminton, volley ball and football using stuff from the games room. There was a table football game and big tv's in both social rooms which meant the boys could get their fill of youtube without irritating the adults. The A595 gets you straight up to the north lakes and we were half an hour from the steam railway which took us to pick up the ferry from Lakeside to Windermere. All in all a fabulous week which included visits to the local beach, local country fair, a climb up Black Coombe which is just across the road, and plenty available Board games in the evening.

Unfortunately there were a few too many annoying little things. The downstairs area is lacking for the price of the stay and the beds are not comfortable. The games room was misleading, as there was only a slightly broken table football table and a TV. The kitchen has an array of amenities but lacks good quality knives and simple cooking tools. • "What a fabulous house and hot tub."

6 adults and 3 teenagers shared the house. Perfect size for us all. Hot tub was amazing in the evening for 7 people with led lights and music. Great view in the day with the sea in the distance. Lovely walk to the beach approx 1.5miles with a stop in Silecroft at the miners arms for a cheeky drink. Evening meal was great too - everyone enjoyed it. Everything you could need is in the house. Kitchen is very well equipped, also lots of glasses. Chocolate cake was yum too! Thanks Helen, lovely touch. We would definitely stay again.
